Picky bits?

I hate this! I saw it on a M&S advert and it gave me the willies. I don't know why it sounds gross but it puts me off food as does 'dirty' fries. Yeuch!

@StockbridgeovertheRiverKwai Sounds perfect and high tea a fine addition to canonical terms. It’s basically Mole and Rat’s picnic, isn’t it:

‘What’s inside it?’ asked the Mole, wriggling with curiosity. ‘There’s cold chicken inside it,’ replied the Rat briefly; ‘cold tongue, cold ham, cold beef, pickled gherkins, salad, french rolls, cress sandwiches, potted meat, ginger beer, lemonade, soda water—’

Mole says ‘Stop, stop!’ in ecstasy before Rat can mention half a tube of salt and vinegar Pringles, leftover potatoes, and a bowl of baba ganoush that has to be eaten or thrown, any takers?

I like to eat picky tea sometimes; I don’t call it that, but no problem if others do. My parents eat like that every dinner and often for lunch too, especially in summer. I say to DH I’ll just out some snacks with our aperitif (or for lunch) and it works well as he has a lot of digestive trouble and often can’t stomach a full meal.

My favourite picky bits are olives, radishes, cucumber sticks, warmed blinis with tzatziki, maybe a little cornichon, some grated carrot salad, the crier off the end of the bread, and then perhaps a bit of hard sheep’s cheese, if I’m not full.

Nothing not to like about this, @Itsaswelltime

I was in M&S today and saw the picky bits fridge end sign but was on an escalator so couldn't get my phone ready in time to take a photo.

But it was something like this: <runs>

Yes "picnic". Not PBT

Yes it would @Nordione1 And while I'm on a culinary roll I've got a bit of hummus and some baba ganouch- and flat breads that need eating, and some carrots - if peeling and batonning doesn't disqualify them...

And stuffed vine leaves.

I think High Tea is more formal you sit at table and there are sandwiches and cakes and pots of tea. Picky bits are more portable and washed down with copious glasses of wine.

Can't say picky tea as sometimes it's eaten at lunch time.

@Iwantmyoldnameback Ah, so are talking the bastard offspring of fridge clearance and a TV dinner?

Not TV dinner although warchingTV can be involved. I seem to have different names for everything don't I - but it's all very clear in my head.

N.B. ‘Crust’ not ´crier’ !

Pâté also goes on, and charcuterie, but these are more DH’s territory than mine. He also has the cherry tomatoes (they give me reflux 😢 ).

I quite like - good - hummus, but DH is less fussed so we don’t buy it often.
