Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

One of those ‘drysoon’ heated racks. £200 wasted . I’ve had a drying pod thing for years that I hung stuff in on hangers and four hours or so later it was dry and tidy. That started making a weird noise so I replaced it with the rack thinking it would dry more stuff and be cheaper to run. Nope. Its an absolute faff to spread laundry over, it takes ages and the only way anything dries is to lie it flat across the bars which effectively means you can only fit about six items in it. Forget towels, thick socks, jumpers and jeans they never dry in it (even after being spun) and after a whole day running most things go from being damp to not quite dry. I scowl at it every time I have to use it and most drying is either in the tumble dryer or back on the radiators, making the house damp and costing me a fortune. Great.

On Cloud walking shoes. Felt lovely when I tried them on and walked about in the shop, wore them round the house when I got home and my foot arches were so painful, they even hurt the next day after a full night’s sleep! They were £150, so went straight back to the shop!

My quest for comfortable but waterproof shoes continues…

Cakey46 · 03/01/2025 14:47

Apple AirPods 4th gen -my ear canals are too small so noise cancellation doesn't work. CBA now to work out other features 🫤

Binman · 03/01/2025 14:55

@BlankTimes were they direct from Neom? Their customer service is fab you can return them. Neom should last for yonks and still smell good, though you do need quite a few drops in the diffuser.

I love Black Honey - have been wearing it for years.

I don't get the gate either, people saying it's not a good colour, it changes with your skin tone and is the "perfect red" for everyone. It's pretty much clear on me as my natural lips are cherry red.

Most food banks don't take opened, half-eaten food. I agree on minimising waste, take them to work or something, but not a food bank.

Someone on FB put a cheese which had one biscuit’s worth of cheese taken on the Waste Not Want Not group.

Food banks will take individually wrapped items from multipacks providing it has ingredients on it. For example, multipack crisps have ingredients on them but not wrapped chocolate filled crepes

It’s not red- more a plum - I can imagine it may veer slightly too much towards goth for some people though.

Pretty much all of the m and s party food but especially the snow man bao buns. Just awful more than half of them ended up in the bin and the ones that were eaten weren't enjoyed. At £7.50 a pack for the party food a massive disappointment. Compare it to the cheap bits I had from Iceland for £2.50 3 for 2 which were actually better!
Oh and Lidl jalapeño poppers were so good!

Arraminta · 03/01/2025 15:25

Bought a couple of sweaters from M&S in their much touted 'like cashmere' Air Yarn. Yes, they're beautifully soft but are already bobbling terribly. Haven't even washed them yet! Okay, so they were only £30 each, but it's still very poor quality.

Quality Street: disgusting and wtf is with the wrappings? The only nice thing about them was the shiny see through wrappers. They never tasted that nice anyway but at least the wrappers had that nostalgia feel, taking you back to when they were actually a treat. Now...I would not usually throw away chocolate but in the bin I am afraid. My DS won't even eat them.

I posted similar upthread. The shitty paper wrappers take the festive feel out of them, the chocolate is shiny and even my favourite hazelnut in caramel, wasn’t recognisable as they’ve standardised the sizes so they all look the same. A poster upthread pointed out that half the fun as a kid was looking through the see through wrappers at the world in different colours !! Brought back memories !!

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 03/01/2025 15:46

Mine were all M&S too! Thought I’d treat us as the DCs’ dad is living abroad and it was a quiet Xmas for us. Figured some fancy chocolates etc would make it feel a bit more festive. The light-up biscuit tin in the shape of a Christmas tree was v disappointing. I thought it would have holes all over (didn’t have my glasses on when I bought it clearly!) and project lights out, but it’s just some script underneath that vaguely lit up the table underneath it, but only once you took out the pack of biscuits. Battery lasted about a day. Utterly pointless.

Also bought some walnuts in Zambian honey. Opened it up and it stank like cheesy feet/wet dog! Figured sometimes honey smells worse than it tastes, so I tried a bit. Gagged had to get a different plate as even the trace of it on my plate made me feel ill. 🤮 My smell/taste has been more sensitive since covid but even so, it was hideous.

On the plus side, the contents of the Very Merry Munch tin and the salted caramel pinecones were both delicious.

Hypoallergenic earrings for DD, apparently made of medical grade stainless steel and coated in gold. Nope, flared her ears up and still recovering.

If it was due to a nickel allergy, then it's actually really likely she's allergic to surgical steel as well. Apparently the two go hand in hand!

They really need to get back to basics. No doubt they will say customer feedback is delighted with all the changes they've made, but anecdotally everyone thinks they are awful. I'd love to know if their sales have dropped a lot this year.

CoolPlayer · 03/01/2025 15:55

A cream jumper, washed it..bits of the material covered everything else in the washer at the time and the machine (prob my own fault for washing on the wrong setting)

I have two of these, had them for years before the price shot up, and they're fab! I can get two loads of washing on each and it will usually all dry overnight. (Thick jeans and jumpers can take a few hours longer.)

The trick is to have a dehumidifier running next to them. I picked a basic one up from Aldi, which has also lasted for years now.

Ah no! I’ll have to remember that in case she ever needs pins or something!

it didn’t occur to me that the stainless steel would have other metals include. Nickel is a common allergen so I don’t see how the company can say they’re hypoallergenic

BlankTimes · 03/01/2025 16:28

Sorry, I don't know, it was a gift.

I did search online and saw a lot of reviews with the same opinion of those 2 products.

A real shame as I've loved their sleep spray and hand/body cream which Ive had several times.

mondaytosunday · 03/01/2025 16:35

@BeachHutsAndDeckchairs what brand? Got my DD a Vision Beam...
@ifIwerenotanandroid that's poor for the supermarket, and they should have told you on point if delivery do you could have refused them, but I happily eat ready meals four days out of date!

BlueMoanday · 03/01/2025 11:56

They do if you use them right. You need to chill the drink you are using and freeze the inner cup beore trying. They work great. I've even done frozen Kopaberg (classy bird me)

That’s exactly what I did I froze the cup, I even left it for 3 days because 12 then 24 hours didn’t work and the drink I used came from the fridge and it didn’t work

JMSA · 03/01/2025 17:03

I am loving this thread!

I too found the slushy cups a faffy waste of time/space/money.

I bought all my party food from M&S and will never do it again. Veggie Wellington had a soggy bottom and was an absolute mess to serve. Charcuterie platter was vacuum packed - took half an hour to separate and plate up. Honey roast carrots and potato Dauphinoise very average. Cheese platter was good but no crackers. Kids did like Sleighride Colin though. I’m going to Lidl next year.

‘ Next year ‘ you mean this year?

Medical grade stainless has small amounts of nickel in it.

Titanium piercing fittings might be safer for your DD.

notedbiscuits · 03/01/2025 17:40

Re surgical steel. I definitely have a nickel allergy as worn watches and get rash where the buckle sits. Plus earrings - ears get hot and leak of pus.

Yet had surgery with metal pins (were in for a year before planned removal) in my late teens and never had an issue.

notedbiscuits · 03/01/2025 17:41

Pistachio Lindor. Bought some when I saw them in Tesco and wasn't impressed. Yet the Irish Cream ones - yummy.

I don't know, it's just got numbers on it rather than a brand name. Having read into it, trying to find a solution, it's an issue with pixel phones - Google want you to use their Chromebooks so won't let their phones link or screenshare.

It works with an iPhone though, but I read that Disney, Netflix and such block screen sharing onto a low-quality screen like a projector.
