Little things that make you happy.

Thought I'd start a nice, light hearted thread about things that make you happy! I notice a lot of light hearted threads end up a bit down in the dumps, so for those who just want to share, need a bit of cheer, or are generally nosy parkers (like me! 😂), I thought this could be a bit of fun.

I'll start (and try and make it brief!)

  • Family. Yes, yes, twee, sickly, blah blah blah, but it's true.
  • Christmas. Festivities and seasons changing in general.
  • Books! Give me a good book, a nice box of tea, and I'm happy.
  • Cheese. Any cheese. My DS had a milk allergy as a youngster and I had to cut it out too as I was breastfeeding. God I missed cheese. I celebrated so hard with a cheeseboard when he passed the milk ladder that I made myself poorly. 😂
  • Flowers in my window. I love watching how the light changes the shades of the petals during the day.
  • A good black comedy. Anything Shearsmith and Pemberton does me.
  • Oversized men's sweatshirts. Fuck women's jumpers, men's are the way to go and I will die on this hill.

Off to make some sarnies to take to MiL's - v. interested to hear other people's little joys!

I love all of yours OP.

Listening to DS17 & DD19 chat.
Feeling the dog curled up behind my knees as I nap on the sofa.
A nice coffee and marzipan choc bar.
Quiet.
Walking up the lane and seeing all the nature in our doorstep.
Our old house. It's a money pit and a bit of a shit hole but it makes me smile and I'll never regret the move. Although I really should. 😁
Moomins.
A lovely bookmark.
Freshly washed bedding.
DH's humour and good naturedness.
Christmas.

Making a pot of tea. Always makes me feel cosy.

My kids laughing and giggling together. Also absolutely melt when they say I love you to each other 😍 Brings me real joy. Of course they're back to squabbling the next minute but you can't have everything 😂

Jigsaw puzzle and a good podcast

Bird song and watching the sun come up over the sea.

Heavy rain on our big kitchen velux. Makes me feel warm and cosy

Ordering a Chinese for the family and putting on a film for us all to watch.

Walking on the beach and smelling the salt air and sand.

Glass of crisp white wine and oysters.

Family hugs

Play Uno with the kids in restaurants whilst waiting for the food.

Bubble baths

Fresh bed sheets

Just being with the family to be honest. Had a turbulent upbringing and I love family life and the stability it brings.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 01/01/2025 15:41

Oh and getting my feet rubbed and logs burning on open fire.

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/01/2025 15:41

My teenage grandchildren chatting to me. Completely the opposite of monosyllabic. I love spending time with them.
The first bunch of daffodils
Roses
Shopping on my own. Pretty non existent these days.
Reading, especially finding a new book by a favourite author.
Coffee from the coffee machine. It tells me when I’ve made a good one, 🤣

fridaynight1 · 01/01/2025 15:43

Christmas films make me smile.

Being tucked up in bed listening to rain on the window.

Hearing my adult kids laugh together it’s so lovely to hear when for most of the time they can’t bear to be in the same room.

Watching my dog walking along proudly when she's found a particularly good stick!

Love this.

And I know that look well. Ours gets it when she's rolled in particularly good dung. 😬

Struts like she's cock of the walk. Until bathtime.... 😏

Lossyfloss · 01/01/2025 15:47

Writing on my new wall calendar for the year ahead. I'm just about to do it. So satisfying.

CharliesAngles · 01/01/2025 15:50

@GiddyRobin

Do they play guitar? Mine won't touch it, they're such snobs. Violin and piano. <huff> 😂 I jest, of course.

Piano, drums, cello and yes, guitar but casually (as in self taught)
They're pretty good and it's lovely when they just gravitate together and play something.
I marvel at them being musical because I am tone deaf 😂

caringcarer · 01/01/2025 15:52

Tea in bed in the morning.
A walk around the lake near to my house.
A whippy ice cream with a flake.
Watching DC play cricket.
Lying on a beach when it's hot.
Swimming in the sea.
Eating fish and chips.

First coffee of the day / coffee after we've been out and about all day.
Reading on the sofa with my fluffy dressing gown as a blanket.
My boys (4.5 and 2) laughing together.
DH dancing with the kids
Christmas carols

Itsalwaysfools · 01/01/2025 15:57

A freezing cold can of diet coke.
Looking at the moon.
A dog walk with my friend.
Talking to a mate on the phone. She's funny and makes me laugh.
Chocolate.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/01/2025 15:57

Waking up (naturally) early, going downstairs and having a cuppa alone with the Christmas lights twinkling and some comfort TV show on.

Watching my husband be attentive to the needs of my family when we're with them. Whether that's chatting motorbikes and cars with my Dad for the millionth time, or helping my mum with heavy lifting tasks he is just such a good egg.

Seeing how much my cats adore my kids. One cat is proper old, one proper young yet they both gravitate to the kids to sleep in their rooms with them. So lovely!

Oh, and edited to add

When the clocks change and it's dark by 5pm. I really like driving home from work in the dark, and coming home to my gorgeous house, all warm and the little lamps on (family gets home before me), then sitting in the lounge just warm and cosy whilst it's dark and cold outside. It brings me such peace. I really hate the summer light evenings.

Topsy44 · 01/01/2025 15:58

What a lovely thread!

Knowing that I have absolutely nothing planned for the day, staying in pjs, watching tv and general pottering with cozy lights on inside while it’s blowing a gale outside. Pretty much my day today and I feel so relaxed and content!

Icequeen01 · 01/01/2025 15:59

When I seen Little Cat enjoying our fire. I used to watch her left out in the freezing cold and not let indoors for days. Now she's been signed over to us she has a warm fire and her own heated pad. She will never be cold again.

Little things that make you happy.
BettyBardMacDonald · 01/01/2025 16:01

That's wonderful, @Icequeen01
How kind of you.

BettyBardMacDonald · 01/01/2025 16:02

Watching birds at the feeder.

SAHMommy · 01/01/2025 16:04

Ah lovely thread!
My favourite things recently have been:
-Seeing my Mom and Dad being grandparents
-My DH playing games with my baby
-My baby giggling at DH
-Fluffy socks!
-Watching crap TV snuggled under a blanket with a cuppa
-Christmas lights!
-A clean kitchen…but a messy, toy filled living room has also been so lovely ☺️

JaimeLannister · 01/01/2025 16:05

Looking up at the stars on a clear night.

Frosty morning walks, especially as the sun rises.

When my dog lies on his back and wags his tail while I rub his warm belly.

A good cup of tea in your favourite mug.

Wigtopia · 01/01/2025 16:06
  • The smell of coffee as it’s going through th grinder
  • sound of my dog snoring/making happy noises in her sleep
  • windy and rainy days
Taytocrisps · 01/01/2025 16:07

Mugs of coffee

Mugs of coffee with Baileys. Because it's Christmas.

Open fires.

Snuggly cats.

New pyjamas. I got three pairs for Christmas.

Anotheremmaemma · 01/01/2025 16:08

The first coffee of the day, especially if it's in bed.

A Saturday morning lie in

A cuddle from my ds

Getting in bed with dh to watch TV

Lighting a candle in a tidy room

Clean fresh pyjamas

Treating myself to a meal deal on my day off work and sitting down to enjoy it on my own

The extra hour in bed when the clocks go back and the extra hour of daylight when they go forward

Any kind of festivities. Christmas, birthdays, Valentine's Day, Halloween, Easter. Even if I don't particularly celebrate I like looking f at all the tat in the shops and seeing what people get up to.
