Trail Hunting or Fox Hunting?

wantmorenow · 01/01/2025 09:28

Just read a random pop up post in Facebook about hunting with hounds in the UK which I naively thought had been banned. I am shocked and quite amazed at my own ignorance. I genuinely didn't realise this still goes on and despite the law banning hunting. There is footage of the fox being pursued and the data shared is an eye opener.

That’s really bad and no excuse for it. Can you please link, I just googled and can’t find. I’d like to know which sabs organisation it was as I’d want nothing to do with them.

No idea the organisation but was in Leicestershire. Also look up Paul Allman.

Sabs willfully trespass on private land and put lives of others in danger with no evidence of wrongdoing on behalf of their victims.

It was in 2022
In court it was highlighted that they had no interest in animal welfare and had been terrorising people in the local community for a long time . Associations with their victims and the hunt was not relevant.
As such not hunt sabatores in there normal sense. Just a gang who doesn’t like certain people.

I’ll post, also for @FeegleFrenzy
This is the report from the Countryside Alliance

Please read in full if interested as this gang are not about protecting wildlife which of course Hunt Protestors are.
These guys are something quite different

Thank you. No idea if they were linked to an “official” sab group or some crazy fringe nutters who like a fight. Certainly the sabs I’ve come across are very anti hurting people, to the extent they will really try not to react to extreme provocation and horses being ridden at them, etc.

i know there was some concern a couple of years ago about some hunt associates dressing as sabs and kicking off for the cameras to try and give sabs a bad name. Which let’s face it is easy to do. Though i don’t think they’d go as far as assaulting one of their own.

From news reports I’ve seen including the one posted here they had no link to an official group.

Just a gang masquerading as something else and out to course harm.
So nothing to see here then

Not surprising really that hunt supporters do this to people.
In for a penny and all that

Wonder how many were convicted. Hope you’ve got good cctv Feegle.
We’ve stopped the hunt crossing our land but they seem to have so little land to trample over near us these days think they’ve stopped hunting. 😁👏

I can certainly see why sabs mask up to try and stop being identified. Not because they’re thugs (99% of them anyway) or that they’re breaking the law but if their names get around the risk of their addresses being put on the internet and their homes being attacked is real.

I agree and I have to say we denied access on our land with great trepidation. The previous owners had been here since about 1940 and had allowed it.
It seems, however, that most people hated hearing them near by ( we only have one neighbour and the church near us )including those using the Church.
So, it seems we did the locals and church goers a huge favour.
Yay …so...we haven’t been ‘hounded’ out …..😁

You're lucky they respected your refusal. They don't give a toss around here, just go wherever they like, no matter how many times they're told "no".

I found it very easily, third hit on Google.

As I say, I've never ridden to hounds.

Tim Bonner: Hunt sabs convicted

Last week's conviction of five hunt saboteurs at Loughborough Magistrates Court for threatening and punching a 15-year-old girl and two men aged 61 and 52 years old, who were following a trail hunt in Leicestershire back in January, is very welcom...

@Megifer they take terriers out with our bloodhound pack too. It was their job before to come out on the quad so it's their job now is the only reason I can think of as obviously they don't have a role to play aside from that. The quad takes the runners from the start of the hunt line and then on to the next, rounds up stray hounds, closes gates etc and the terriers just sit there looking smug that they get a lift!

Thank you. You must have used a different search term than I did because it hadn’t come up for me. When I was googling hunt sabs assault I get a plethora of stories about different assaults on sabs by hunters. Multiple hunts over the years and a lot of convictions. I’m sure all upstanding law abiding members of the hunting fraternity would condemn such attacks the same as I would condemn any violence from sabs.

Do you really believe the terriers just get taken for a day out? 🤣🤣

liveforsummer · 02/01/2025 09:22

@FeegleFrenzy with the bloodhounds??? Of course - why else would they be out?

Damnloginpopup · 02/01/2025 10:17

Why else indeed 🤔

liveforsummer · 02/01/2025 10:24

@Damnloginpopup please educate yourself on bloodhound/ clean boot hunting before commenting further and looking silly 🤪

FeegleFrenzy · 02/01/2025 10:42

I know what bloodhounds are and what clean boot hunts are. There’s a bloodhound hunt near me which afaik is never sabbed as no need to sab it. They’re not foxhounds!

But I genuinely can’t understand taking terriers out for a ride round for the day and am just suspicious that the “terrier men” while out and about on their quad bikes for the day will use the terriers if they come across any fox sets while out in the fields. So everyone is busy following the runners and while people are distracted there’s some fox getting a terrier sent down their set…….seperate from the bloodhounds.

liveforsummer · 02/01/2025 10:50

@FeegleFrenzy as a foot follower I can absolutely assure you that this does not happen 😆. As you said they are busy with lots to do. Why would you leave your terrier at home when it could be out in the countryside with its owner. I bring mine along too

FeegleFrenzy · 02/01/2025 10:51

Fair enough, good to hear it doesn’t happen.😁

liveforsummer · 02/01/2025 10:54

and if you know what bloodhound packs are, I don't know why you'd even consider that an option - it isn't a replacement for or simulated fox hunting. They have no interest in finding a fox - the packs have existed alongside fox hunting long before there was any laws and imagine the risk and the damage to the reputation- it's a ridiculous suggestion!

FeegleFrenzy · 02/01/2025 11:24

It’s not a ridiculous suggestion. There is certainly some talk that terrier men dig out foxes while out with a drag hunt (not chasing foxes). Kind of a brucie bonus during their day out. Great that you say your hunt doesn’t but it’s ridiculous to suggest no hunts do. Or that it’s not a possibility. Personally I think the idea of terriers going out for a jolly on the quad bike is ridiculous but there you are.

Then you don’t understand dogs. Our farm dogs love a ride on a quad

FeegleFrenzy · 02/01/2025 11:37

My dogs would hate it. Saying that I used to have a Jack Russell who liked riding my horse with me 😆

Notfeelingtiptop · 02/01/2025 11:44

I totally agree with the sabs being just as bad and worse as those hunting in some cases, having been targeted by them while out riding on my own, minding my own business.

My horse has his reins and martingale grabbed and he was yanked around, and I was threatened and my way barred, and then chased on push bikes riding straight at us as getting away. Hurting and frightening an animal in the name of animal welfare invalidates your point somewhat. Especially when that animal and it's rider have absolutely no involvement in the thing you're trying to prevent. It was violence and intimidation for the sake of it. It was bloody obvious I wasn't involved in the hunt.

I was miles away , not dressed in hunting gear or actively taking part, in fact I was trying to head off away from them as a large group of horses moving quickly and all the noise and action upset my horse.

So although I don't agree with hunting, I certainly don't and will never support hunt sabs either. They're nothing more than thugs who've found what they think is a good enough reason to engage in violence, they've no interest in animal welfare.

They work on intimidation and violence to disrupt the hunt, or in fact anyone who's in the vicinity. I may well have had sympathy with the cause once upon a time, I have the exact opposite now.
