Anyone else having a crap NYE?

Single mum with two young dc. Ds1 had an awful bug the last few days and is thankfully feeling better. However ds2 has now sadly caught it and I’ve got a throbbing sinus infection. I’ve barely slept the past few nights and have woken up with an outbreak of mouth ulcers. Counting down the hours until bedtime that’s if I get any sleep.

Feeling miserable hearing about my friends and family members plans for this evening. I’ve spent nye alone the past few years once the dc have went to bed. Meanwhile XH always seems have a wonderful one as he always goes away on holiday for it every year (IABU for being bitter I know!).

Apologies for wallowing. Hope you all manage to have a wonderful evening tonight and Happy New Year 😊

DH is working from 2pm until the late hours of the morning. I’m panicking as I have to go back to work on the 2nd after several weeks off with stress. DC don’t want to do anything. Have ordered takeaway for later but it’s definitely not going to be a classic and I’m hoping older DC doesn’t make me stay up till midnight. Hope you manage to get something nice in during the day!

popandchoc · 31/12/2024 12:29

Yep had a virus type thing for last 5 days . Feel awful and can’t stop coughing . Was meant to be going to my parents for new year but staying at home alone . Kids are with their dad so at least not having to look after them .

TheBumbler · 31/12/2024 12:32

Yep, also had/still have the virus. Not doing anything tonight. DH has gone to M&S to get a Tom Kerridge meal for us that he can cook 💁‍♀️

Collette78 · 31/12/2024 12:33

Yes … working overnight and first year I won’t have my kids, plus have had this stupid virus for the past two weeks booooo!!!

Hope you feel a bit better soon. If you have some kids liquid ibuprofen hold some in your mouth for a bit before swallowing and it takes some of the pain out of your ulcers.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/12/2024 12:36

Yep, been floored by a virus for most of the Xmas hols. Still feel like shite. The weather here is beyond a joke too. Supposed to be going out for a meal later but I think I'll suggest driving to it!

Intheband · 31/12/2024 12:43

Had a falling out with family and feeling so awful if I get dressed or out of bed I might just run away.

catandcoffee · 31/12/2024 13:01

No you're not being unreasonable at all.

Hope you manage to get some sleep.

theeyeofdoe · 31/12/2024 13:03

A bright side could be that you didn’t book to go away (as you would have been ill)

plan something nice for next year instead.

Deadringer · 31/12/2024 13:07

Worst christmas and new year ever. Mum died in the summer so missing her terribly, mil dying and we cant even go and see her as we all have the awful virus, just shit.

That's a shame, try and nap when you can, stick cartoons on for kids, keep yourself warm . Try sucking ice cubes for sore mouth, or ice cream.
No one I know is staying up for new year so don't feel like missing out on anything really.
Hope you feel better soon.

Me - I got a message from our landlord today, thought they were wishing us a happy new year, as they normally send stuff like that, in fact it was to say they wanted us out by February. They've not followed the legal process so I know that will have to be sorted out, but absolutely sick with worry as I thought we would be here till June at the earliest. My DD21 and I are joint tenants here, she's doing a foundation year at uni nearby and as I thought our tenancy was secure, I exchanged on my old house on 20th December so we can't go back there either. Very worried, but not much we can do until legals sorted out. So yeah, its crap.

Hotmess1 · 31/12/2024 13:17

Yep, I have a chest infection and UTI. I’m single and live alone so at least I can just slob out but would be nice to have someone to get me drinks, painkillers etc.

always reassuring to hear that not everyone is out at glamorous parties having a great time! I hope you feel better soon!

UpUpUpU · 31/12/2024 13:19

I was looking forward to my night shift as a midwife on labour suite but have also come down with this awful virus so I’m off sick and will be spending it alone now.

I did have a lovely Christmas though so shouldn’t complain too much

Vinvertebrate · 31/12/2024 13:24

Home with autistic DS8, who is a poor sleeper (ie the fecking fireworks will wake him at midnight and he’ll be up and on it for the day then)… ah well, sleep is for the weak!

Happy new year all 🍷

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 31/12/2024 13:42

I've been in bed since Christmas Eve, literally feel like shit. Thankfully kids are older so self sufficient and I wasn't hoarding Christmas Day so they still got to enjoy that.

We're not really big on NYE anyway, h might pop t the pub for a few pints.

Hope you feel better soon op

Beeloux · 31/12/2024 13:45

Thanks for all of your replies and so sorry many of you are having shitty NYE too. I hope you’re all over this rotten virus/illnesses soon. Drink a big glass of Wineon my behalf 😊

@Deadringer So sorry to hear about your mum and MIL. I’m in a similar situation with my grandad who’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer and under palliative care. Feel awful I haven’t visited much but it’s been one illness after another since ds1 started nursery recently and can’t risk them passing it on to him. 😔

@IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 That's horrendous, I can’t imagine the stress! hope you and your DD get sorted. I’m not sure how it works but hopefully shelter or citizens advice can help!

Op, if you can get to a chemist, Oraldene mouthwash is absolutely brilliant for mouth ulcers. I find it clears them up within a day or two.

bungletru · 31/12/2024 13:56

Yep.
dh and I been arguing so much lately. Recently had a baby (2nd, toddler just turned 2 so hands are full) and he just finds any excuse to fight with me

today it was because we didn’t get out the house quick enough - he proceeded to sit there holding baby while I got everything else ready

dying to get out and do the shopping, want to see my family and get some fresh air.
Ive told him to do one and leave me alone - managing both babies myself now and im succeeding but i just wish we weren’t fighting so much.
im PP and he fights me on everything right now

my skin is super dry and hurting

my my in-laws are horrid and continue to be

money is so tight I can’t see how ill get through the year of maternity leave

just feel crappy today but my kids are keeping me going.

sending love to all feeling down and rubbish today.

LoudPlumDog · 31/12/2024 13:57

I’ve cried and cried and cried. Not because I want to party or anything, haven’t done that in years, just that my 21 year old daughter passed away in November and going into 2025 seems like so long since I have seen her face, so long since I hugged her, so long since we laughed together.

I do however, wish us all a safe and peaceful and healthy 2025. Be kind, always.

Crucible · 31/12/2024 13:59

Not going out and happy not to. Decided a few years back to change it up and celebrate New Years Day. I go out for lunch with my brother. He's been sick all Christmas and is now better and well enough to go. Hope everyone has at least one bright spot in the next day or two.

Crucible · 31/12/2024 14:00

Oh @LoudPlumDog I am so terribly sorry.

WhatDaHell · 31/12/2024 14:00

Yep. I'm alone with a sick toddler, I'm also sick. DH has just left for work so won't be home till 3am. Then he's working again tomorrow. No shopping in the house due to illness so probably try and go soon.

I'm going to have an early night, catch up on admin and watch The Office. Very boring 😒

HilaryJan · 31/12/2024 14:01

@LoudPlumDog I am so so sorry. I cannot begin to imagine the pain.

bungletru · 31/12/2024 14:01

@LoudPlumDog I’m so sorry.
feel I should delete my post now as it really puts into perspective how much harder others have it.

so so sorry. Can’t imagine the pain you are in.
