Mine was Car 67 by Driver 67. I bought it with a Boots gift voucher just after Christmas 1978. The B-side, an instrumental called Communications Breakdown (nothing to do with Led Zeppelin) is the superior track.

Oh wow..I loved that song! Going to have to go and listen to it! I remember my friend and I made up a cool dance to it. 😁

First vinyl album was A New World Record by ELO,first vinyl single I ever bought was Oxygene by Jean Michelle Jarre. This was in 1977,I was 13.

BlackChunkyBoots · 31/12/2024 16:37

Joyride by Roxette, 7 inch single, from WHSmith.

Looking at Google it came out in 1991!

BlackMagicBrazil · 31/12/2024 16:50

Cutting Crew, I Just Died in Your Arms. Summer 1986, I was coming up 11, vinyl obviously - pretty certain it was from Woolies!

I thought I'd bought my next single shortly afterwards but that was Alison Moyet Weak in the Presence of Beauty which the internet tells me wasn't released until February 1987, so there must have been a bigger gap than I recall.

Lola, by the Kinks.

ginasevern · 31/12/2024 16:54

Maggie May by Rod Stewart. My first album (or LP as we called them then!) was Led Zeppelin IV.

ImWearingPantaloons · 31/12/2024 16:55

My first album was ABBA's Arrival in 76, first single was Blondies Heart of Glass in 78

imnotthatkindofmum · 31/12/2024 16:56

First single I bought myself was I should be so lucky by Kylie Minogue but my mum had bought me some (awful) ones before that! Can't remember my first cassette but I did have a copy of the Bros album which I imagine was one of my first! (Again previously had some awful stuff my mum gave me!) my first cd was ac/dc as I spent all my money on a cd player and then had no money for cds but got this one in the charity shop!

BlackMagicBrazil · 31/12/2024 16:58

The first album I received was Aha Hunting High & Low, that was on tape & I'm pretty certain it was for my 10th birthday in October 1985.

The double cassette I really remember however arrived at Christmas 1986 - Now That's What I Call Music volume 8 - though no-one called those collections by their full names, they were just known as "Now 8" 😀 Pretty certain I could recite that track listing even now!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 31/12/2024 17:01

First cassette single: Spaceman by Babylon Zoo 🤦.
First cassette album: Now 33 (from the much missed Woolworths).
First CD single: When Your Gone by Bryan Adams and Mel C.
First CD album: Now 41 (there's a theme running!).

The Monkees, I'm a Believer and Daydream Believer, not sure which was first, late 60s

Excellent choice! 👏👏👏

I'm from the same era but mine was "Wind me up ,let me go" by Cliff Richard - Cringe! 🫣. I was only 10 though.😁

MagentaRocks · 31/12/2024 17:11

I can’t remember the first one I bought but the first one I had was ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’. I got it for Christmas when I was 11.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 31/12/2024 17:16

Aqua, Barbie Girl 😂😂😂

getthosetitsup · 31/12/2024 17:18

I can't remember my first single. My parents bought me a pile of them with my first record player (Christmas present). Elton John I Guess That's Why I Call it the Blues and UB40 Red Red Wine were amongst them.

The first vinyl albums I went out and bought myself with the record tokens I used to get off my aunt and uncle every Christmas were a double purchase of Wham! Make It Big and Culture Club Colour By Numbers.

I can remember walking into Our Price in town and being totally overwhelmed by all the vinyl stands - a way bigger selection than the little WH Smith up the road 😆

First cassette was Now That’s What I Call Music 8.

I can’t actually remember my first CD. My dad was a member of a CD catalogue club and we accumulated a few very quickly - and ownership of many was disputed when I moved out 😂. I still insist Whitney is mine! The first ones I can remember walking into a shop and buying myself was Banarama - Wow!

Guess I liked singing actors 🤣

Can't remember my first CD or cassette.
