Mine was Car 67 by Driver 67. I bought it with a Boots gift voucher just after Christmas 1978. The B-side, an instrumental called Communications Breakdown (nothing to do with Led Zeppelin) is the superior track.

This Ole House - Shakin Stevens, loved a bit of Shaky when I was little

Sister sledge - Frankie on vinyl with my birthday money

LauraNorda · 31/12/2024 15:19

First single was Kim Wilde - Kids in America (I also bought Hazel O'Connor - D-Days at the same time but I asked for Kims first).

First album was either Toyah - Anthem, Human League - Dare or Abba - Supertrouper.

First CD was either A-Ha - Hunting high and low or Depeche Mode - The singles 81-85.

First single - Lonely this Christmas by Mud, first album Night at the Opera - Queen

Flicitytricity · 31/12/2024 15:22

First 'proper' one was 'Music' John Miles.
But I was a huge, huge fan of the KTel albums featuring questionably talented cover bands 😅

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 31/12/2024 15:25

God you're all soooo young! The first single I got was from my sister. I got a portable record player for Christmas when I was 8 and she bought me two Monkees singles, one had Daydream Believer on and the other was an ep. She was grown up and said she was embarrassed to be buying kiddie pop records.

I owned a lot of music that were gifts/rejects/pinched from family, but the first music I ever bought with my own money was the ‘Stars on 45’ Beatles compilation on cassette, and the first vinyl single and album were David Bowie and Mick Jagger “Dancing in the Street” and Tom Petty “Full Moon Fever” still one of my favourite albums today!

My first album was “Kylie” too! I think I was 8 also. I had a walkman for Christmas from my parents and my uncle bought me the cassette. I was also bought 3 blank cassettes so I could record songs from the radio on my mum’s cassette player. Happy times!

I was obsessed with kylie! God I loved that Walkman. I remember pretty soon after my birthday I bought Phil Collins & Aha.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 31/12/2024 15:32

Oh and the first CD I ever bought was INXS “Kick”

My second album was “Nothing Can Divide Us”. By the time I had a disc man I was listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam 😂

Me too😃 In fact, right up to my mid teens, when I suddenly went all dark and moody. Had to be done!

A-ha, Cry Wolf 7". Paid £1.99 for it using a £2 WHSmith voucher an aunt had given me for Christmas (myself and siblings had exactly the same thing every Christmas for years). We didn't have a WHSmith anywhere near us so we'd have to wait for our father to take us into Bristol. Would usually take until march before he found the time!

I still have that single.

Showing my age here but it was a vinyl 45 'Mack the Knife' by Bobby Darin sometime in the late 1950s!
