Can I recommend M&S Big Mix. Nice thick chocolate, shiny wrappers, toffees that will take out your fillings, coffee creams.

The butterscotch eclair is top tier.👌

I will remember this for next year - thank you

TepidWatersOfManagedDecline · 29/12/2024 21:21

Totally agree! In a cardboard box too (no plastic tub to recycle) and more chocolates than you get in the tubs 😁

ohyesido · 29/12/2024 21:22

Quality Street were particularly crap this year

angelopal · 29/12/2024 21:22

Ooh coffee creams. Will have to check them out. Will be passing an M&S tomorrow so good timing.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 29/12/2024 21:26

I know it’s late notice but pick some up now so you can check the quality for next year.

Coffee creams? Sold!

Every year I get suckered in by Quality Street thinking there isn't anything in there I don't like. I forget that they've gone downhill in actual quality and now give me hideous heartburn that I don't get from decent chocolate.

A colleague gave me an M&S Swiss selection for Christmas and they're gorgeous as well.

Christwosheds · 29/12/2024 21:35

WHY are QS and Roses so bad now ? Everyone wants a big tin of pretty sweets to hand round at Christmas, they used to be really nice, but they have got worse year by year. I would happily pay more for something like the Roses or Quality St of my youth. Even the wrappers are horrible. Supposedly eco but the toffees all have a plastic inner wrap.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2024 21:38

I did a taste test with the M&S ones and Quality Street - neither were very nice imo. QS purple one much better than the M&S one. Coffee cream the only really nice M&S one. QS fudge and purple nice, but the others poor.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2024 21:38

I actually quite like the new QS wrappers.

Why?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2024 21:47

KilkennyCats · 29/12/2024 21:42

Why?

Because the colours are pretty imo.

The chocolates are crap though. I only bought them because dd likes them. You get so few in a tub now as well.

Wegovypictures · 29/12/2024 21:50

Big mix is all year, don't worry!

Some delicious, some poor cousins of QS

mitogoshigg · 29/12/2024 21:52

Tried them, different but equally disappointing. Even the truffles seemed to taste worse than before

BerriesCones · 29/12/2024 21:53

I might try them next year. I like Marks chocolate and sweets. We get the Ferrero rocher copies. I normally get a pouch of each of the big 4. Waitrose were selling QS with coffee ones this year.

beezlebubnicky · 29/12/2024 21:54

I think M & S chocolate tastes dusty and I've not liked most of the ones I've tried; I seem to be in the minority though.

stargazerlil · 29/12/2024 21:54

No I want dissappointed because I didn’t get them. I got Thorntons continental mix and Lindt truffles and matchmakers mint sticks.

Justwingingit2005 · 29/12/2024 21:55

My youngest son is 14, always loved Roses. This year he said don't both getting me them again. Not one fudge or dairy chunk!

Doggymummar · 29/12/2024 21:56

I was disappointed there were no shiny wrappers in QS. Same delish sweets tho

Because they are so much cheaper than they used to be. In the 80s the big tub of QS was the equivalent of £20 today. I can’t imagine that many people now would spend £20 on a tub of chocolates.

What the hell has happened to the purple one in quality street - totally different shape and hardly any caramel. Deeply disappointed.

Seconded

HumerousHumous · 29/12/2024 23:37

Why are they reducing the number of popular sweets in these tubs. Surely they can't cost more to make the Celebrations malteser or the Roses Hazelnut whirls or the QS green triangles. If you were guaranteed equal numbers of every sweet, they'd sell more wouldn't they?

Celebrations...hardly any malteser or galaxy sweets just the usual ones no-one wants.

Ditto Roses...WHERE are the hazelnut whirls, just two in a recent tub.

I wont ever buy the plastic tubs or boxes of QS ever again as each time there are just three green triangles. THREE! And gazillions of toffee pennies and the coconut ones, so will save our pennies for the bespoke tins. I know they are pricey but I had a tin of Quality Street from DH this year of just green triangles and the limited edition coffee creams, latter only available in John Lewis.
