I don’t like any of them. I’m politically hornless but seeing this turd getting more and more popular would actually make me leave the country.

If immigration continues at this rate he stands a good chance

MissyB1 · 28/12/2024 17:54

Ringpeace · 28/12/2024 17:08

That's not correct.

He also cares about Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Elon Musk.

Imagine if we could get all of them in a room together (I would chuck Netanyahu in there too), then send in a highly skilled hit squad.

Ladamesansmerci · 28/12/2024 17:41

He's a far right piece of crap. His followers are either racist or thick, or some combination of both.

He is a fascist, and I don't know how people can't see it. Terrifying.

Edited

Hmmm - Describing his supporters as racist or thick or both is not exactly the most intellectually well structured counter argument to persuade his supporters to change their views.

@1dayatatime perhaps people are sick of showing tolerance to the intolerant? Personally I have no desire or compulsion to persuade anybody think anything. That’s between them and their conscience.

I wouldn't go with this tactic irl, but we're on an online forum and the thread is about opinions on Farage. That is mine.

The right don't hesitate to call lefties libtards, morons, etc, so it works both ways!

Having said that, I genuinely believe at its core the rise of far right populism is a class war in the UK. Just look at the riots that took place. Those people were the truly uneducated working classes who are fucked off at the dire state of wealth distribution in this country. Immigrants are just an unfortunate scapegoats. People will say 'they're taking our jobs' whilst also saying 'they're scroungers'. Both cannot be true. There are enough resources for everyone. Keeping people in relative poverty is a political choice.

And that's fine. But if the established political parties want to stop this drift towards Reform they need to persuade/debate/challenge. They won't win any votes by insulting the electorate. Instead of belittling the voters they need to understand the appeal of Reform.

Yes I agree with this too.

I have every sympathy for people genuinely frustrated about the cost of living, lack of opportunities, lack of housing etc. I will listen if someone says 'I think as a collective Europe needs to work together to think how we can fairly support asylum seekers whilst looking after native people's.

I do not have sympathy for people who say things like 'Shoot the boats'. These are far right thugs. They are idiots. And Farage fuels these people.

Why? He hasn’t produced a manifesto just details of unfunded undeliverable spending

Who needs one of those manifesto things?
I gave him one of my MAGA hats.

@noblegiraffe if you knew anything about hunting you'd know most involved are not toffs. The support for hunting in rural communities is massive.

I know that fox hunting isn’t popular and it isn’t a vote winner.

Remember Theresa May had ‘bring back fox hunting’ in her 2017 manifesto and the response was ‘what the fuck, who wants that barbaric bullshit brought back?’ And she lost her majority.

Example from the IFS

Take Reform. They propose £90 billion of specific tax cuts and £50 billion of spending increases, "paid for" by a £150 billion package of measures that includes substantial, unspecified cuts in welfare and government waste. If they want a smaller s tate – a perfectly reasonable ambition – they should tell us how they will achieve it. We saw the consequences of massive tax cuts with no detail on how they would be paid for in September 2022.

In any case, the claim that they could eliminate NHS waiting lists at a cost of £17 billion a year is demonstrably wrong, while the vast tax cuts would cost even more than stated, by a margin of tens of billions of pounds per year.

NHS waiting lists would only decrease by outsourcing. I do believe that Reform are open to this.
My understanding is the tax threshold is to ‘make work pay’ but it doesn’t matter what party is in government, they don’t seem to be able to make it work at all. Employers would need to be far more flexible and that just doesn’t seem to happen.

Well for those who value our history and appreciate the sacrifice our forebears have made, there's only one thing I can say......we salute you Nige!

Purplevelvetshoes · 28/12/2024 18:13

It’s not Farage you have to worry about. It’s Richard Tice behind him.

Farage goes where the money is and just leans in to the populist vote.

Richard on the other hand is a very nasty individual personal level - so is his girlfriend

Zebedee999 · 28/12/2024 18:14

Parker231 · 28/12/2024 16:55

Why did you join - which of their promises sold them to you?

Tories failed miserably.
Labour have lied repeatedly and after only 6 months!... Labour even recently voted to kill 4,000 OAPs (based on their own winter fuel calculations).

I can't believe any promises made by the above two parties; both liars and the latter happily voting to kill pensioners (they have form with dodgy dossiers killing 500,000 of course).

We need a new option to the above two, Reform is currently filling that gap. I have tried the Green party locally but they were useless. Hardly surprising people are turning en masse to the new comers on the block and turning their backs on the established failed parties.

That’s what you don’t like about the two main parties but what positives are there about Reform?

Nigel Farage seems to care about the UK and about British culture and values. I can't see why some people have a problem with that.

The only thing Nigel Farage cares about is Nigel Farage.

Curious whether the people who love him still think the Brexit he dumped on us all with is going well?

Conservatives were responsible for Brexit. They are the ones who were in charge.
While Farage and Brexit Party did champion leaving, ultimately Cameron et al were ultimately the ones who ‘delivered’ what we got.

No different from Trump - false promises which some are naive enough to believe.

No different from Starmer.

Mummysgogetter · 28/12/2024 18:20

Going to get flamed for this but it’s not so much “foreigners taking our jobs or scrounging”, it’s how can the infrastructure (i.e. schools, hospitals and GP practices) cope with the numbers coming in - people who haven’t paid into the system and don’t have the money to pay upfront? We’re not like the USA where if you don’t have the money you’re not treated - everyone gets treated as needed and then try to reclaim unsuccessfully at a later date. We’re at breaking point

Podcastqueen · 28/12/2024 18:23

great news if the people who say they’ll leave the UK if/when he becomes PM actually do leave, unlike those who said they’d leave over because they didn’t like the results over brexit. They’re still here talking down the country they’re living in.

Raising the tax thresholds to £20k and £70k with no concrete explanation of how that will be paid for is a good place to start.

Edited

With NMW going up so quick. I don’t think £20k is going to be an issue in a few years.
