House is a shithole

I need some motivation to tidy up. I have done next to nothing since Xmas eve. My black bin was emptied yesterday . But it's full again already. Its 2 weeks till that's picked up again. My recycling is over flowing and has not been emptied. I still have rubbish to get rid of that's in the house. So I don't know how I will do that. I have no way of getting to a tip/recycling centre. I don't drive or have anyone who can help . It will right it's self but it's making it hard.

It makes everything feel a bit yuk and I feel un motivated because it feels like I can't get rid of shit.

I keep telling myself I will do xyz then I do fuck all

Vacuuming the bags is a really good idea. I saw this as a hack on a fb reel.

I feel your pain. I have a tip run booked tomorrow for rubbish and recycling. Recycling gets collected tomorrow and the bin is full. The overflow of recycling I'll drop off myself at the tip.

Household waste bin is almost full and doesn't get emptied for another week so will have to decant some of that into my car for the tip run if I can fit it in!

I just tried the vacuum bag thing i gained nothing. I don't think they are even sucking all the air out . Going to check the reviews in a min.

I got at least 2 weeks for my normal bin collection and that one is full. Hoping recycle will get collected on Monday. And they take the extra or I'm going to still have the same problem

Do what I did pay the neighbour to do it

It's nice you feel you can ask your neighbour

I definitley think our of site would help op. Do you have a shed or anything?

Lookingforwardto2025 · 28/12/2024 15:37

Can you not put a post on your local Facebook page asking if anyone can do a tip run?

StrawberryCherry · 28/12/2024 15:38

At least yours was collected we are not due here till the 3rd and my bins are over flowing and I have so much rubbish in the house our council won’t take anything that isn’t in the bin so gonna take me ages to get rid of. No extra waste removal in my area.

TwinkleLights24 · 28/12/2024 15:39

Break the cardboard up into one big box and ring the council to take the extra rubbish. They don’t charge much.

No. But I am now at the fuck it stage. Its either in the house or out . So i have bagged it up best I can and stuck it out the front. I have just made sure it's all non food/non food wrapper stuff

I think thats a good step in right direction. Is there anyone in the house who can help?

Sounds simlar. My black bin was collected yesterday. And it's already full . So i have no where for house waste for another 2 weeks.
Recycle has not been collected at all not sure wheh it will be . That will also refill as soon as empty .

Also same here that's no option for extra general waste only furniture.

No. I don't want anyone near me i feel grumpy. Its not that hard anyway. It was just seeing beyond the rubbish . People were right about just getting it out of sight. So I have done that for now. Least I can tidy up a bit

ours was last collected on the 19th so not due again till the 3rd. People are lucky they can pay their council to take extra that definitely isn’t a thing here, they take what’s in the bin and that is all.

MerryMaker · 28/12/2024 15:56

I feel your pain. Our council used to do extra collections at xmas i.e. waste and recycling collected weekly instead of fortnightly for 2 weeks, but they have stopped that. Everyone generates more waste at this time of year, Just the amount of people you can end up cooking for does this alone.

soupfiend · 28/12/2024 15:59

I started a thread about this recently about how recycling is stressing me out because it piles up inside the house, we dont have a shed or garage to put it in, garden isnt big enough and it would get sodden

Its stressful, they dont collect enough or regularly enough

Advice about making it all wet is going to cause huge problems, they wont take wet or disintegrated card. For us its the card and paper, not so much the other stuff because that bin is quite big and doesnt really get full, we dont seem to have a lot of palstics or glass or tins

You would think they could put something in place to help people who can't get to tips /recycling which is actually affordable. If live in flats they have massive bins and a part where people can put their unwanted/broken items . For houses on streets there's nothing like that

All the houses on my street seem to look tidy. No over flowing bins . It looks like a me problem 😭 is serm to be the only one who does not have a car though.

Dd has a driving test on the 30th . I'm praying she passes. I will black mail her into tip runs 😅

This might sound a bit potty but one way to condense paper & cardboard is to throw it in a bucket of water whilst you’re cleaning up other stuff. It’s a bit of faff but when it’s wet it takes up much less room in the re-cycling bin.

Could you ask a neighbour if they have any room left in their bin?

Wet cardboard messes up the recycling plant and the whole lot has to be thrown away.

Don't do this anymore please

Exactly. I don’t drive so the tip isn’t an option. Been thinking about if there are some big flats round here so I can take my rubbish to their bins but there isn’t any, not within walking distance anyway.

please don’t do this. Cardboard that has been wet can’t be recycled. It breaks down the fibres

soupfiend · 28/12/2024 16:16

Yes I was surprised at how many people advised this when I started a thread about my cardboard. Must be crazy. Makes it really really heavy as well

What rubbish do you have? We recycle all cardboard, plastic containers, cans, food waste and glass here in Wales and I walked to a supermarket yesterday to recycle the other plastics (crisp packets, stretchy plastic and so on). We can leave extra bags or boxes of recycling outside for collection over the Christmas period so all that I have just put outside, it’ll be a bit messy til next week but at least it’s not in the house (ours are covered). A few neighbours have burnt some stuff in their fire pits.

The bins /recycling /furniture on the estates and flats are all locked up so you can't use them unless have the keys the mad thing is they are council flats and so are the houses Council you would think there would be the same help.

Rubbish collection every TWO WEEKS?! How awful! I feel for you.

I live in a city not in UK and here it's twice a week, my Christmas rubbish is gone already.

House is still a tip though....
