House is a shithole

I need some motivation to tidy up. I have done next to nothing since Xmas eve. My black bin was emptied yesterday . But it's full again already. Its 2 weeks till that's picked up again. My recycling is over flowing and has not been emptied. I still have rubbish to get rid of that's in the house. So I don't know how I will do that. I have no way of getting to a tip/recycling centre. I don't drive or have anyone who can help . It will right it's self but it's making it hard.

It makes everything feel a bit yuk and I feel un motivated because it feels like I can't get rid of shit.

I keep telling myself I will do xyz then I do fuck all

How do you sort rubbish /recycling if there's no where to put it . The bins are already over flowing.

I’ve been known to bag it up in bin bags & then put it outside/in the shed. At least it’s out of the kitchen.
I sympathise though op, it’s hard to get going when you don’t know where to start.

onehundredandonepaws · 28/12/2024 13:52

Put the recycling in Amazon boxes outside your door. It will be gone in no time.

No definitely not . I'm in a very built up area

We do this though I was reluctant to suggest it as mn is very pro environment. Fortnightly collections are ridiculous now, especially at this time of year when days are delayed or skipped entirely due to Xmas

It would not be so bad if the council said we will collect extra /over flow rubbish from over the Xmas period. But they don't some bin men will collect the extra others won't and leave it over the floor.

I just about manage the fortnightly collections. If nothing throws me of such as Christmas or something like that .

Are there any recycling bins in a local supermarket car park? Where you can take the recycling
I pay £15 a month for a private waste bin collection in addition to the council one. Any trade waste company will do this you don’t have to be a business. If I need an additional collection I just ring up and they collect when they are next passing.

Bag up rubbish and leave in the garden. Gradually get rid of it when your bins are emptied.

I did this and it attracted mice. I wish I'd paid a removal team sooner 😬

Betterdayz2025 · 28/12/2024 13:16

Some of the recycling is alot of Xmas wrapping but it still takes up alot of room . I'm debating putting it in a vacuum bag and using the hoover to such the air out . Then I might get a bit more space .

That’s a really good idea actually 😄 I was going to suggest using a box as an overflow recycling bin but vacuum bag much better idea! Only thing is you’d have to keep opening and re vacuuming it to add things to it?

Hisredipad · 28/12/2024 14:17

A lady near me puts a small bag of rubbish in a large ish bin on the edge of our estate every day, (probably dog waste) but is there a street bin you can drop a bit in as you walk by?

I'm not that close to a supermarket. And I don't drive.

I will look into the suggestion about private waste collection be my luck it's expensive though. Will take a look .

No i will totally fill the vacuum bag. Till no more will go in and then vacuum it. Worth a go

I would triple bag up all the extra rubbish and stick it in a shed or garage if you have one and arrange to pay someone to take it if you can afford it - there are services that will do so if you google -

THATbasicfuckingelfontheshelfshit · 28/12/2024 14:40

I feel your pain op! I have actually just booked a skip

Betterdayz2025 · 28/12/2024 14:41

I'm so fucked of. Ds has decided to clean and move his room round . Which means I'm going to get more crap . And it probably won't be normal rubbish. Probably stumble down the stairs with a load of random shit . Mum where can I put this . 😭

Anyway I'm going to try vacuum my rubbish bags

That's the thing .. it all comes down to money. Which some people just don't have

@Betterdayz2025 yep I do agree and sympathise as I've been there - solutions are always simpler if you have a bit of spare cash there's no doubt -

THATbasicfuckingelfontheshelfshit · 28/12/2024 14:52

Vacuuming the bags is a really good idea. I saw this as a hack on a fb reel.

I feel your pain. I have a tip run booked tomorrow for rubbish and recycling. Recycling gets collected tomorrow and the bin is full. The overflow of recycling I'll drop off myself at the tip.

Household waste bin is almost full and doesn't get emptied for another week so will have to decant some of that into my car for the tip run if I can fit it in!

couldcareless · 28/12/2024 14:56

Oh what a shame DS decides to add to the Christmas Clutter by "Cleaning" up his room :((
Which, of course, will fall on Mum, as it always does...
I know you've thought of this, and I don't know if you have boxes or other cardboard to 'hide' until recycling day, but what I ( have to) do is flatten the boxes and put a string around them all so that they can stand up together in a corner or behind a cupboard or somewhere around a corner outside, just so it can't be seen! Good Luck OP, soon it will all be okay!

daffodilandtulip · 28/12/2024 14:56

We're four weeks in between each bin. I've put recycling in bin bags separately to empty into the bin when there's space.

My house is a tip too. But I'm relishing in seeing my uni daughter so don't care.

anonny55 · 28/12/2024 15:12

I bag my recycling up and put it into the back garden, once they empty your bin you can slowly split the bag open and put it into the bins every week to get taken. My black bags I also leave in the garden and slowly add into the bins every week as they're emptied. No I don't have problems with mice or fox or cats as I'm sure someone will say that. I also have a shed I could chuck them in if I needed too - do you have one?

Today I've been feeling the same
So far I've took down the Christmas decorations (controversial I know but the clutter is killing me)

All rubbish into bags and into the back garden

Dishwasher loaded and did some washing up

Load of washing put away and new washing put in the machine

Put a load of Christmas snacks that were out into the snack cupboard

Put a leg of lamb in the oven to slow cook which we will have in sandwiches for dinner later , quick and easy and less washing up than a whole cooked meal so I can get on with my jobs.

I'm about to tackle the bathrooms.

You can do it!

Treeinthesky · 28/12/2024 15:17

Do what I did pay the neighbour to do it
