Teen bras- pleasehelp!

13yo DD has inherited her mothers genes, currently sized up at 32DD.

fitter at JL advice was no underwires, okay yes this makes sense. DD confidence beginning to crumble: no bras have thin enough straps or the cup fabric comes up too high and shows under strapping tops etc. then there is the issue of actual support. I remember the plight well as a teenager myself, but surely things have come on almost three decades later? Only I don’t know where to go to find since I don’t wear strappy tops myself really and don’t find my clothing choices much ruled by my bra options these days.

can anyone help me? Where should I look?

At that stage my DD used to double layer her strappy tops (it was a Hollister thing at the time) and match the underneath top to her bra colour so it was less obvious what was bra strap and what was vest strap.

Got dd a load from M&S - they have the best selection.

Thank you! Shame no nude though- school shirts are white and so hard not to have bras show underneath. Perhaps we need white camis underneath too.

SHe doesn't need thin strap half cup bras under a school shirt - just get normal nude bras for those and keep the thin strap demi's for weekends under strapy tops etc.

My 13 yo was measured at 30DD at M&S. she was put in a bra called Rosie, no underwire but a really nice thick band for support, light padding.

she was also given a bra with no underwire that had light padding but the option to wear as a regular bra or a racerback. She likes the racer back option as it offers a little more lift and support

Actually I found red is the colour that works best. Not nude.

Bravissimo do a good selection of 32 DD’s.

I agree, on a light skinned person a red or hot pink is less visible under a white shirt, but I’d be wary of her wearing that on a PE day in case that gets her the wrong kind of attention (as a busty quiet teenager I hated having attention drawn to my body like that).

I have always found M+S good for bras - book a fitting appointment. They are really knowledgeable and will advise on things like underwired vs not wired.

Fitters can be a bit weird with young girls and overly insistent on ‘good support’ over comfort! Comfort matters most always.

I used to order a wide variety from Next to let them try at home. They had a good selection of small band bigger cups.

Nude cotton strappy vests from Sainsbury etc over any colour bra work under white shirts.

Shapermint? I adore mine, so comfy, look plain but not unattractive and have enough support.

these 🖕I am 30G and small frame and these are fab and give security with no wires. They don’t do my exact size so I went down a size but they are quite generous with their sizing

Pour moi and brastop have a great selection of bras. Not sure where this idea of no underwire is from. As a big boobed person support is very important and I have never found a non wire bra that does the job. M&S are the worse place for fitting

I have to say I had a bad experience when younger, however went back a couple of years ago and had a very different experience - I suspect a lot of updated training has happened. They don't make you take off your bra any more, bring in huge selections and gave a lot of great advice. Their 2 packs are very good value too.

It's not what you're asking, but are you sure she's a 32 back? That's quite broad for a 13 year old if she is a normal BMI

Do you have a tape measure at home? If so, I would recommend googling the 'boob or bust method' and checking her size.

As PP - generally your band size is your dress size plus 20. So if she’s an adult size 12 in clothing, she would be a 32 band. Yes, I know it doesn’t work for everyone.

Why no underwire?? DD's bought from Boux Avenue for a while, plain slightly padded, but quality then went downhill. M&S were always awful quality. Debenhams were great, but now sadly gone.

I'm afraid I had to stump up for Bravissimo from a very young age as they were both very narrow backs with big boobs. Worst combo being a 28G at one point.

Thank you for all your help. I think we need a visit- wish I’d remembered I’d posted for help before I ordered £100 worth online. I had a complete mind blank and totally forgotten I’d asked for help!

My dd's have always just worn primark bras. So cheap they can have them in lots of colours, and not too expensive to replace as they grow.

If she's a size 6, she is probably needing a 26" band and a FF or G cup.
Although no one makes 26", and few 28".
My DD has this problem too - she likes Freya bras. Underwire is fine as f it fits properly.
Try the boob or bust calculator on their website and measure her at home.

Might be worth seeking out an independent bra fitter. We have one the next town over and she is great with all ages and sizes. She gets booked up quite far in advance. Not cheap but probably worth getting her fitted for one good bra then you can look for the same, but cheaper, online.

I know you said wireless but my 15yr old is wearing these in 30dd with no complaints. I think she’s not likely to grow too much more (assuming she’s similar to me and I’m a 30f), but I’m keeping an eye. She’s wears a size 8 if it helps.
