If Prince George is heading to Eton where will Charlotte go?

I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

I don’t know whether George is very academic or not. His mum is very bright - a relative went to school with her.

Yes , Kate ( & also Pippa) were supposed to have excelled both academically & in sports. No doubt that work ethic was drilled into the girls from Carole & Michael
I'd imagine she would have similar expectations for Charlotte & the boys.

How academic is Marlborough these days? Less so than Kate’s days?

Marlborough likes sporty kids, and it is not terribly academic. Results aren’t exactly high flying either but not sure it matters…

Solent123 · 27/12/2024 14:13

But Kate's brother had an entirely different experience at Marlborough, not being sporty and I think he has dyslexia? he found it far more difficult with the expectations being that would be equally as bright and sporty as his sisters, he mentioned it in his recent book about his depression.

@MerryMaker I haven't said that George is academic - I have no way to know wether he is or not - I said that even if he wasn't academic, or as academic as most other Eton boys, Eton still wouldn't turn him away.

I trust his parents are more than capable of selecting a school where he will thrive, whether it's Eton or not. And I can't imagine any school ever turning them down 🤔
(Also, not that it matters, but to me he does seem to be a bright and thoughtful boy.)

MerryMaker · 27/12/2024 14:21

@LeHorla I know nothing about George beyond seeing him walk besides his parents or watch football with his father. He might be incredibly bright, he might not. Unless we know him, none of us have any idea.

Completely agree. It is a very positive step forwards & a life changing opportunity for the very bright boys who no doubt have also worked very hard to earn their place there.

Like Boris Johnson? He was a scholar at Eton. The bright but poor boys don't even apply. It's the bright boys with parents who know how to play the system who get in.

Did Boris Johnson get an Eton scholarship?

FFS!! His family are very rich.

Cheltenham Ladies College if Charlotte is serious and bright ( flexi boarding an option, good location in Gloucestershire)
Teddies if she is artistic and not academic
Uppingham - bohemian, alternative choice.
Sherborne if she is neither artistic nor academic!

Marlborough is too obvious and unlikely.

Downe House for obvious reasons will not be on the list any time soon. Wycombe has a similar vibe, so also off the list.

What are the "obvious reasons"? I'm curious.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/12/2024 14:28

@sprigatito

Kate was at Downe House and left due to bullying I think

Like many of the public schools, Eton has a fair number of boys on means tested bursaries.

38thparallel · 27/12/2024 14:34

None of them would be bright enough to get into Eton these days.

Hmmm…..I suppose that makes a change from the usual mn refrain that all Etonians are thick.

HRTQueen · 27/12/2024 14:36

i think it would be better if we didn’t know we know how damaging the constant intrusion has been

Yes, a friend's son won one but the cost of the uniform wasn't covered, so he didn't go.

Patienceinshortsupply · 27/12/2024 14:42

I can't see them choosing Cheltenham Ladies College - I work in Cheltenham and it's gone seriously downhill over the last decade. It doesn't have the prestige of years ago IMO. The campus is also spread over several local roads and I'd imagine security would be a nightmare.

I think they'll choose one school for all 3 children to attend, and break the usual traditions. For security reasons if nothing else.

That's correct. I'm looking forward to reading his book

That’s not the case across the board. Some bursaries, including at Eton, cover the costs of fees, plus the cost of uniform and school trips for example.

Less affluent boys can now attend through scholarships.

I don't think the Kings Scholarship has any cash value these days (other scholarships, such as Rokos can remit 100% fees and extras, based on means testing; and then there are further means-tested bursaries)

It may have had cash value in Boris' day, but I don't think it was more than a token amount in the 20th century - it was an academic honour.

@MumofSpud , a right royal wave to you fellow Upton-cum-Chalvey resident.

I deliberately didn't use that one as a suggestion as I thought it might get mixed with Slough Comp.
