I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

@LeHorla I know nothing about George beyond seeing him walk besides his parents or watch football with his father. He might be incredibly bright, he might not. Unless we know him, none of us have any idea.

Yes isn't that exactly what I said?🤔

Less affluent boys can now attend through scholarships.

That has always been the case, though as a pp pointed out, it is bursaries which provide assistance rather than scholarships.

StaunchMomma · 27/12/2024 16:17

I have no idea why a single person would care, nor do I think the general public should be privy to such personal information.

@StaunchMomma the education board on mn is one of the best parts of mn! a real wealth of information about a huge variety of schools, about how to interpret the league tables, how league tables can be massaged, where previous heads had worked and all sorts of little details that helps tease out what school is better for what type of student.
recently there was very good thread on the kent results which showed very odd statistics with a bit of digging it was revealed the la had made an extensive mistake and the stats were republished.

it's an interesting topic regardless of who attends.

Our taxpayers money will be paying for itso we have every right to know how our future monarch is being educated!

Our taxpayers money will be paying for

William has his own personal wealth to fund this with. It will not be covered by any tax to UK citizens

From Wikipedia:

Only the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen Mother ever received direct funding from the Civil List.[4] The then Prince of Walesand his immediate family (the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry) received their income from the Duchy of Cornwall

It's not that simple and the civil list has been replaced by a different funding model - if you want to know more look at the Royal family official website on funding and be prepared to be amazed at how much the tax payer spends on their travel, but that's off-topic.

According to the press they have looked round Eton, Marlborough, Teddies and Oundle so probably one of those.

Solent123 · 27/12/2024 22:26

Also where are Harry's children likely to go to school - is 90210 an option? that seems preferable to freezing rainy hockey and rugby pitches in the freezing cold.

CruCru · 27/12/2024 22:37

MerryMaker · 27/12/2024 14:25

FFS!! His family are very rich.

A scholarship is not necessarily a bursary. It’s prestigious but might only be a small reduction in fees.

Billyvy · 27/12/2024 23:13

Ok, and where do their "personal wealth" originated from? Their daily hard grind for the country? Or land, properties and assets that would have been state property?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/12/2024 23:22

@Billyvy

William and Harry inherited from Diana too, this will have mostly been her divorce settlement. When Harry had a whinge on Oprah about getting no money from Daddy I thought this was ironic since his "mothers money" was his fathers except for anything from the Spencer side

Harry apparently has money from the Queen Mum.

The Duchy is obviously a landowner type income

If that's true it's nothing short of outrageous!

William gets 20 odd mill a year from the Duchy of Cornwall estate alone - he can fuck right off if he thinks we should happily pay for his kids to attend hideous snobbery holes!!

It's about time for a good old 'peasant' revolt in this country, by the sounds of it.

GildedRage · 28/12/2024 00:08

@Boxingdaymusings and @StaunchMomma my interest is in what type of school might suit a young man who's future involves lots of time in the public eye. will it be one that shields him from world struggles until more mature, will it be a location that allows more independence, will it be a school with multiple options (languages, hands on technologies, drama, sportwhich sports, which specialtieshistory) location close to home, single sex, etc.
theoretically there are many different school models to choose from, hence the interest.
personally i'm very against bizarrely strict schools and when coming from a large family can see how same sex has it's benefits during some periods of a child's growth and development.
the dutch and spanish royal families chose to send their youngsters to school in wales. all very interesting and maybe indicative as to how overexposure to media growing up can be damaging to a person's self worth.

CruCru · 28/12/2024 00:29

I am sure that the taxpayer doesn’t pay for education. Apart from anything else, this really is an area where the parents choose, rather than courtiers or the general public.

My expectation is that one of their office pulled together a list of the schools that can cope with the security requirements and which met whatever requirements the parents have. Some of the schools contacted may well have said that they couldn’t cope with the security. Then the parents go and have a look around the schools on the shortlist.

I think it was reported that Harry inherited from his mother not William as he was due to inherit the Queen's wealth.

Floralnomad · 28/12/2024 00:59

Diana’s will definitely left the residue of her estate in trust to be shared between William and Harry .

Lovetoplan · 28/12/2024 10:56

IMHO it is important that George goes to Eton. His later life connections are bound to involve a majority of OEs and the camaraderie and shared experience at school will be valuable in building his future relationships. Nicholas Coleridge who has recently been appointed Provost there is excellent. It isn't stuffy either its a jolly good school. As far as Charlotte is concerned the choice is more difficult as there are few standout options for girls. May be Wellington.....

Spikeishere · 28/12/2024 10:59

I hope they go to the same school

zingally · 28/12/2024 11:26

TBH, I wouldn't count on George going to Eton as a certainty.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they went somewhere as day pupils and all three went to the same school.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/12/2024 13:32

@Solent123

From the web :

The Princess left more than £21 million in her will, but around £8 million was paid in inheritance tax, with the remaining £13 split equally between William and Harry.

Boxingdaymusings · 28/12/2024 17:43

I personally think Wellington too..

OP posts:
Araminta1003 · 28/12/2024 19:35

Yes Wellington is within a 30 minute commute, but Wycombe Abbey is too and also has day girls so difficult to tell really. I thought they took Prince George with them on their tours and he may want to go to Daddy’s school. Surely if they were not going to consider his own views, they would have visited without the child.

PoshScouser · 28/12/2024 19:39

Definitely not a local who has done that commute.

niadainud · 28/12/2024 19:43

Topseyt123 · 26/12/2024 17:40

Eton is a boys' school, so Charlotte won't be able to go there.

Marlborough, like her mother did? I think it is only just over an hour or so from Windsor so certainly possible to come home at weekends.

I guess there could be other private schools for girls near them if she didn't want to board, but I don't know the names of them.

No shit. 🙄

He inherited money because he's the spare. They didn't want him to be an Andrew.

I expect that Charlotte is expected to marry rich so will be left SFA, while Louis will be left a lot from the women in the family as George will be king.
