I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

I think these days there is more awareness of how these sorts of things can impact MH. I think Kate and William are quite astute about all that. A “ free pass” is no prize if it’s not a good fit placement.

Yes, and thank god for that!

Crack Sen run down secondary school in the armpit of England

I’m sure I read that Kate was bullied at Marlborough

She was bullied at her prep school Downe House which she left. She is said to have enjoyed her time at Marlborough

I disagree with this - William and Harry were well known for not being the sharpest tool in the box yet they both got into Eton with 1,300 applicants for 240 places. Of course they got an automatic pass to get in.

Harry certainly - there is a long standing rumour, mentioned upthread I think, that he was never destined for a place at Eton and was set for somewhere less academic and that this only changed to keep the two together after Diana’s death

Harry is on record to say that William didn’t want to know him at school, that he didn’t enjoy it there and that he used to smoke pot in the bogs (Source : Spare) so it really didn’t work out for him despite his privilege.

Nothing has ever been said to suggest William isn’t sharp. The King is known to have got into Cambridge unfairly with 2 E’s, the same wasn’t said of William getting into St Andrews so it was probably on merit.

On merit? Really? As soon as the application arrives it's going to get preference. Which school is going to say No, not good enough for us.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/04/2025 12:17

@Pedallleur the only way it wasn’t on merit is if he got an Unconditional Offer and that seems unlikely that a uni wouldn’t play by its own rules in and around the years that he attended. Nothing like his Father’s Day. Besides which you pay for Eton, you’re paying for Oxbridge level grades. - there’s been nothing, ever, to suggest William didn’t get them whereas it’s known that Harry didn’t do well and accusations he was unfairly helped.

William got A, B, C at A level - Oxbridge level grades? 😂

Staggering naivety to think they get anywhere on merit. Dear god. 🙄🤦‍♀️

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/04/2025 12:25

I wasn’t aware of that - I thought they hadn’t been disclosed…my apologies for having it wrong. That’s a shame I didn’t think much was made of it in the press at the time unlike with Harry….

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/04/2025 12:26

Perhaps Harry is right to be aggrieved he’s held to a different standard

Downe House is a senior school. She went there very briefly but didn’t find it a good fit so it’s unlikely Charlotte will go. Though who knows: Charlotte seems very much her own person and I think Kate seems aware of their individual personality.

Personally I think they will choose a place that works for all three and is not quite so pressured. Those children have a lot of other pressures and commitments already.

Pedallleur · 05/04/2025 12:26

Somehow they all get into Sandhurst as well. Just no way a School or University is going to say no you aren't good enough unless a Royal wants to be a Doctor/Vet/Dentist or other profession. And that career path is closed off.

User14March · 05/04/2025 12:27

St Andrews now ranked higher than was - Will would now be an outlier with those grades I think, decent as they are.

Well I think that way of doing things has passed. Even if they could push their way into an “undeserved” place, I’m not sure they’d want to.

Harry is known to have found Eton not a great fit, whatever basis he was sent on. I feel bad for the royals if it was to keep the boys together after their mother died, as that was a reasonable judgment and it’s a shame it didn’t work out.

There is so much envy seeps out of the cracks in these threads. I think growing up in the RF would be an unimaginable pressure which I wouldn’t wish on my children and I’m not sure why people begrudge them the occasional “entry ticket” here or there.

Kate and William seem sensitive to these issues. Harry didn’t have a great run, Kate herself made a move to a better fit. I’m sure they will do what’s right for their children - to their credit.

I wouldn’t trouble yourself too much: I can’t really imagine any of the RF are going to train as dentists. “Open wide “ said the King.

The Eton feed to Oxbridge is not 100 percent in case you think it is.

TheOriginalFrench · 05/04/2025 12:59

Quite.

Pedallleur · 05/04/2025 13:27

A free pass??? From day one it's the Wonka golden ticket. Job pressure? Maybe but they can opt out at any time. But why should someone on here be happy their child didn't go military school or University because. a Royal got that place. Edward to his credit did quite the Marines as he knew there was no free pass there

GildedRage · 05/04/2025 14:50

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit plenty of kids in secondary’s school get tutored. Does it really matter if Harry had tutoring help?
Either way this thread is about George Charlotte and Louis.
With a falling birth rate and VAT weekly boarding and any boarding schools are pricey and unlikely to have high demand, certainly not high enough to displace anyone.

Any hint as to hobbies G or C might be participating in currently? They might want a school with equestrian or swimming facilities in particular.
Lastly has the school Zara’s two attend been mentioned?

Pedallleur · 05/04/2025 14:58

Equestrian or swimming facilities? Kensington palace has a pool and the Cavalry regiments have enough horses and tutors just a brief range rover ride away. Plus Aunt Anne has horses and Ill presume Charles has courtesy of his mother.

GildedRage · 05/04/2025 15:09

@Pedallleur the children might have their own interests they are keen to persue at secondary school is my point. Is Eton known for equestrian drama or swimming success? Just like any child secondary schools should suit their non academic hobbies.
A good secondary is not all about grades.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/04/2025 15:11

@GildedRage I actually think Harry is right to feel put out about his education . It was all a bad fit for him.

Calliopespa · 05/04/2025 15:13

Zara’s children are still little. Zara and her brother went to Gordonstoun but I seem to think she has said her Dc won’t board though that could be just media chatter.

Frederick Windsor and his sister went to Eton and Downe House.

But I think things have changed on many fronts since that generation all went through.

GildedRage · 05/04/2025 15:26

@Calliopespa sorry I meant Autumn’s girls. Isla and Savanah Phillips.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/04/2025 15:45

Cheltenham Ladies’ College - if she turns out to be very bright. But I’d guess Marlborough, too.

roses2 · 05/04/2025 15:56

Harry got one B and one D at A level. If he was tutored imagine what he would have got without tutoring!!

Araminta1003 · 05/04/2025 16:09

The Marlborough School website says they are opening a new house in September 2026 which is a day house. So it won’t be fully boarding anymore?
