I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

@MissRoseDurward Harry just wasn’t engaged or interested by his own account in Spare. Looking at results not all at Eton super academically bright, if reasonable IQ/academically ok, with other all round attributes that suit e.g sporty you’ll be fine. Westminster another story.

MissRoseDurward · 20/01/2025 16:33

ISTR reading that there were doubts about whether Eton was right for Harry, but it was thought best to keep the boys together after Diana's death. But can't recall where I read it and of course it might not be true!

User14March · 20/01/2025 16:38

NB: At ‘top’ boarding schools, especially those with large international contingent, at least a quarter taught the curriculum/subjects a year ahead IME. Science/Maths in particular by private tuition. Lots online after school to this end.

I've read this several times that it was suggested to Charles and Diana that they look elsewhere but then Diana died and allowances were made. Harry has himself been clear that Eton didn't work for him. It could be one of these fictions that has become widespread "fact" though.

YogaLite · 20/01/2025 16:59

Maybe Eton would go co-ed?

User14March · 20/01/2025 17:02

Re: an aside , Harry on Eton, the History master (so passionate - lucky, lucky boys) tried to engage him but Harry couldn’t be arsed, not intellectual weakness here the issue. Harry didn’t see his privilege.

MissRoseDurward · 20/01/2025 17:11

Yes, one person says it or writes it and everyone else repeats it, but it all stems from a single original source.

Of course if Harry hadn't gone to Eton, it might have been one more thing that William had that he didn't.

Gordonstoun didn't suit Charles, so I don't suppose he ever considered sending W&H there, but it might have done Harry a world of good!

There are usually some teething issues with admitting girls to boys’ schools for the first time. Even if Eton did go co Ed, I would be surprised if the family would want Charlotte to be one of the first girls there.

It’s really hard to get into Highgate these days. And it’s far from where they live. They don’t have a sibling policy.

Edited

It's not hard if your FIL is King and your husband the next in line. Be surprised if they even had to pay.

Pedallleur · 20/01/2025 18:58

Does it even matter if a Royal child is just not bright? None of the family have exactly been Nobel Laureates and they prob get coached on every aspect of management esp if required to spend time in the Armed Forces

Don't schools normally test the waters by turning their Sixth Forms co-ed first?

I doubt they'd be ready to admit girls by the time Charlotte is 13 - she turns ten in May. By the time she's Sixth Form possibly, but George will have left by then, and Louis might not go to Eton. Not that I think Eton are considering going co-ed.

I think Harry was destined for Milton Abbey but then, with Diana’s death, it was considered better to keep the boys together.

I would be incredibly surprised if Highgate is their destination.

Havalona · 20/01/2025 19:22

It will be somewhere out of left field. All the speculation, hints, and articles are only increasing applications for the schools in question in the meantime.

I have no idea where the kids will go, and am not that bothered either. However I suspect it will be somewhere quite prestigious, co-ed and suited to academic and non academic abilities that has not been on the radar so far.

Now where could that be? Hmmm.

They pay, and it'll be at the full published rates.

It's the same policy that (reportedly) baffled Meghan that she couldn't accept freebies from designers. Now for stuff with no published price list, who knows what deal they're getting (especially with things like bespoke clothes where valued customers, whether royal or not, can get different price tags to a new walk-in customer. But for regular shopping, they pay the normal bill (it would be very widely known if they didn't)

If any DC scored a scholarship on merit, it's also possible that the parents would donate it back - following the pattern of both William and Harry who drew their military salary but donated it all to military charities as they didn't need the money personally

User14March · 20/01/2025 19:47

Marlborough is surely likely as Kate v happy there. If security a fit.

I doubt Marlborough would fit the security needed with its layout.

Araminta1003 · 20/01/2025 20:19

What about the other London co-eds then? Latymer which also has a prep? Or Emanuel if Charlotte could join too? Once you are into London day schools near KP there could be these sort of options.

Delatron · 20/01/2025 20:33

I think don’t think they’ll do London. I think it will be a co-ed home counties school with options for day or maybe flexi boarding. So close to Windsor.

User14March · 20/01/2025 20:34

@Araminta1003 I think they are going to want a high status ‘brand’ but time will tell.

MissRoseDurward · 20/01/2025 20:59

....following the pattern of both William and Harry who drew their military salary but donated it all to military charities as they didn't need the money personally

And Charles, who used his gratuity when he left the Navy to set up The Prince's Trust. (I don't know if it's ever been stated what he did with his Naval salary.)

I think it will be a boarding school not in London but not too far from Windsor. Maybe a co-ed, but they might decide that what suits George may not suit Charlotte or Louis, so they may not all end up at the same school.

(Catherine's visits may not be related to her own children at all; they could be in connection with her Early Years project, or something else entirely.)

Xag · 20/01/2025 21:28

Flexi/weekly boarding may well be a suitable pattern for them.

If it was to be day schools, then they'd need to be thinking about where the family would best be based for the next 5+ years in order to decide which home the day school needed to be near. Boarding would, in its way, give them more options.

Solent123 · 20/01/2025 21:31

Princess Eugenie went to Marlborough didn't she? and I think Beatrice went to a day school, thinking about it as they seem so close its almost strange that they went to different schools.

Pedallleur · 20/01/2025 21:32

Anywhere they live is only a helicopter/jet/police escort distance. Not going to be sat in traffic and they have a choice of homes. Now where can I sign up?

User14March · 20/01/2025 21:34

Full boarding, in the trad sense, increasingly out of fashion.

Beatrice is dyslexic which I believe factored into the equation they chose somewhere a better fit for that.
