I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

Malory Towers or St. Clare's? St. Trinian's?

I see those and I'll raise you a Trebizon.

CruCru · 05/01/2025 16:30

I’ve just read that article. It’s a bit disappointing that the author was so specific on which house Prince George is likely to be in - it would be safer (for him and others around him) to not have that widely known.

Unless this is actually a red herring and he won’t be going there after all.

Chalet School - there is precedent!

I will say I do think it's odd if it's confirmed now where he will go, given he has a few years before he starts. I'd have thought they would keep it more under their hats until the summer before.

How long is a few years? He'll be 12 in July, a few years and he'll be ready to leave school altogether!

Xag · 05/01/2025 19:54

They appear to be considering 13+ schools (ie starting at year 9)

George was born in July 2013, so that makes him in year 7 now. So there's the rest of this school year and all of the next before he changes school. I'd be surprised if a final decision on first choice of school has been made this far ahead

PoshScouser · 05/01/2025 19:56

13+ Entry - Marlborough College

No, this is the usual timing in prep schools, applications are made at this stage, pending common entrance results, but find it strange that this Marlborough news has come out so early, bearing in mind that with the RF we only know what they want us to know 🤔

easternenergizer · 05/01/2025 21:10

Fabulous choice, hope they're all happy. It was between Oundle and Marlborough for me when I was choosing. It was the distance from home and in-house dining that clenched it for me.

One thing for sure, Marlborough set to become even more posh now, if that's possible... LOL

Lostinmusic22 · 05/01/2025 21:14

This speculation happened over the prep schools, and that was a surprise choice in the end.

Mylovelygreendress · 19/01/2025 12:55

Reported today that Catherine and William are considering a day school for George . Apparently Catherine has toured a couple in recent weeks .,

CruCru · 19/01/2025 13:24

Honestly? I expect that the school he goes to won’t be announced until June or July before he starts. They (the Royal family and whichever school it is) won’t want a fever pitch of excitement to build. Otherwise we’ll have a year+ of articles about what it is like to go to Eton / Marlborough / Radley / Harrow / whichever day schools there are in Windsor.

yes they toured UCS and Highgate, and the rumours are they are seriously looking at Highgate as its co-ed so they could potentially squeeze in the other two:)

SchrodingersTwat2 · 19/01/2025 21:48

Would they go to boarding school?

I thought their parents were fond of them.

CruCru · 19/01/2025 21:59

It’s really hard to get into Highgate these days. And it’s far from where they live. They don’t have a sibling policy.

Tiredmumofthreekids · 19/01/2025 22:15

at this point its all just speculation, but they did had a long private tour of Highgate (and UCS) and there are some rumours indeed that they liked Highgate. However, i also dont see how are they going to get all the kids in there Highgate is very hard to get into/no sibling policy. f they want to get in i hope they already started tutoring for it! George also has to sit occasional entry which is very rarely available in Highgate (unless they want to make exception and create extra space for him!

easternenergizer · 19/01/2025 22:52

Kind of vibing Highgate for George.

My London Day School friends are the most modern and with-it. Much more than boarding schools. Would be nice to have a king that's a bit cooler than ones we've had.

MissRoseDurward · 20/01/2025 11:00

Day school in Highgate when they live in Windsor? I can't see that happening, for all sorts of reasons.

Solent123 · 20/01/2025 11:29

They still have 1A KP as their London base

MissRoseDurward · 20/01/2025 11:58

But the other two go to school in Windsor, so it would be them doing the long school run. And KP to Highgate wouldn't be a quick journey at peak times.

And two younger siblings settled in a day school at Windsor. Would they have to move schools (again in Charlottes case)?

Or would it be a 13+ and 11+ move for George and Charlotte (are they in the right year groups for this to be simultaneous?)

And of course that would only work if the DC’s characters, interests, skills and talents meant that the same school would be good for both

These rumours just mean that we don’t have a clue, and probably won’t know until close to the actual change of school (maybe at the end of time at prep)

TeaandHobnobs · 20/01/2025 13:51

@Xag George is currently in Y7 and Charlotte in Y5, so yes, they could make a simultaneous 13+/11+ move.

Tiredmumofthreekids · 20/01/2025 14:01

Yes, these are all rumors but the fact that they visited them already means they do consider these day schools as an option, but there are a lot of questions around security, commute, siblings etc. Still, most importantly, George has to secure a place at Highgate, which is very competitive as it is one of the top selective day schools. UCS is also competitive (a little less so than Highgate so perhaps they see it as a backup day school option). It is also a world apart in terms of demographics and types of families/pupils attending, compared to the typical posh boarding schools in the English countryside that both their parents attended. Highgate has a lot of kids on bursaries and the majority of its fee-paying kids are normal middle-class families with both parents employed in normal day jobs (doctors, lawyers, bankers), with the parents highly invested in kids' education and tutoring for competitive entry exams from nursery stage. The majority of kids are also from non-UK-born parents.

User14March · 20/01/2025 14:33

@Tiredmumofthreekids if George at least of average intelligence, no reason to think not, it’s naive to think he’d not get a free pass to pretty much anywhere. He’d have top tuition support on speed dial.

CruCru · 20/01/2025 15:10

I can’t remember whether Highgate pupils have to walk across the street to get to the sports fields. If so, it may be a bit of a nightmare for their security.

I suspect it’s a red herring and they’ll announce a boarding school in the Home Counties in just over a year’s time.

MissRoseDurward · 20/01/2025 16:12

Yes, same journey, same time every day with possibly little scope to vary it. Security nightmare.

That's what happened to Harry with Eton. I doubt they'd want a repeat of that.

And out of school tuition is no help if you're struggling in the classroom and in exams. Not fair to the child to send him somewhere he'll be out of his depth, and everyone knows it.
