I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

Yes unusual choices - there might have been better options. Interesting to know where the advice is coming from. The education and social development of the future King is not really sonething to take risks with. I would play it safe, they may not.

Maybe they are taking advice from the Middletons or the younger royals.
Freddie & Sophie Windsors daughters Maud & Isabella were at Thomas's Battersea with George & Charlotte . I think George & Maud were in the same class.

So it's Marlborough for the three children apparently?

solid choice!

Noras · 05/01/2025 05:57

I think they they will do something revolutionary and attend the local state school so that they get better university offers. Any shortfalls they can overcome with tutoring.

It’s a bad look not going to the local state school as eventual head of the country. Either it’s good enough or not!

I wonder will application numbers rapidly increase now!

i wonder what Marlborough’s numbers are anyway; how many apply how many offers how many accept.

I'd say in that area parents apply to many different schools & see what is offered. So many many apply with no intention of taking a space. Would love to know too.

If a Co Ed school is preferred, it will be a challenge finding a school that can accommodate the academic ability of all three children.

User14March · 05/01/2025 07:37

@barefootcook why? Marlborough not super academic. Wonderful that she has such fond memories of it & isn’t obsessed with exam results in isolation.

LaPalmaLlama · 05/01/2025 07:58

Marlborough is one of few boarding schools to be genuinely oversubscribed and operating a waitlist from when places are offered in Year 6 until they start in Year 9. It’s also one of the few genuine full boarding schools left - ie students stay in school at weekends and go home for exeats and holidays only ( think they get a small number of personal exeats each year too) so that might also be a factor for the decision. Whether prospective parents see the royals going there as a plus or a minus remains to be seen.

barefootcook · 05/01/2025 08:19

Eton and Marlborough require a high academic standard. I have friends who wanted their three sons to go to Marlborough- two made the grade and one was definitely not up to it and was not offered a place. Who knows what academic level the Cambridge children are at? They may not all be at the level required when they reach Y9. I guess extra support could be provided if they need it but that comes with problems too.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/01/2025 08:28

BUT there was a poster here recently who INSISTED that George is going to Eton !!??

barefootcook · 05/01/2025 08:32

How does that poster know that?

They just knew !! 🤷‍♀️.
I could be wrong but I think the same poster insisted that ARO will be a huge success in 2025 !

Boxingdaymusings · 05/01/2025 08:37

I thought they may have been headed to Wellington. Shows how much I know!

I like the idea of them all three being together (in as much as separate years allow) at the same school their "commoner" mum went to. Very on brand.

As discussed in the thread further up Kate was very academic so I'd imagine she wanted the same for them.
I wonder if Carole & Michael Middleton were instrumental in the final decision. They probably had very happy memories of the school too & many more to come as grandparents

I will say I do think it's odd if it's confirmed now where he will go, given he has a few years before he starts. I'd have thought they would keep it more under their hats until the summer before.

TheOriginalFrench · 05/01/2025 08:46

with transfers just on a weekly or termly basis rather than at the beginning and end of every day.

Small correction - even at ‘full boarding’ schools pupils don’t stay at school all term! And certainly at the school in the thread title parents spend half their lives thrashing up and down the motorway, or sitting on trains. Two or three weeks is generally the longest time a boy might be in school without a break. (And, given that boarders generally live further away from their school than pupils at day schools it’s quite a heavy commitment for parents or guardians. Or security staff I would guess …)

It’s not confirmed . It’s claimed by an insider . If it was official , W and C would issue a statement.

User14March · 05/01/2025 09:13

@barefootcook the academics need to be ok but the (competitive) selection is based on much more than that alone. The A level results reflect this, they’re fine, not comparatively stellar. Most in a reasonable prep school would be up to an academic standard sound enough to qualify. It’s not all they look at.

Marlborough, maybe, where her mother was educated.

Looks like I was right in my vague guess 😆
