I know it's not been officially announced that George is going to Eton .. but if he is where will Charlotte go?

St.Pauls? Prob Marlborough tho. But it's not as tho any of them will need to pass any exam/interview. Be surprised if there was even a bill.

Doubt they be bright enough for St Paul’s and as a day school with only a few boarders would be completely unworkable.

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 29/12/2024 12:19

Wycombe Abbey?

Wycombe Abbey?

Very academic and high pressure. I think she’ll discount it.

I still think Bradfield…

I think another poster did say some of the cousins were but not sure which ones. Isn’t Bradfield also close to her parents?

Also I’m sure (as they are in a similar area) quite a lot of pupils from Lambrook would go to Bradfield so maybe they’ll also consider friendship groups.

It may not be prestigious enough though.

They really prioritised their children's education & ensured they were equally competent at sports

How do you ensure someone is 'equally competent' at sport? Parents can't make a child a sportsperson if they haven't got the aptitude, any more than they can make them an artist or musician or mathematician, if the talent isn't there.

User14March · 29/12/2024 16:39

@MissRoseDurward you’d be surprised…most can become at least average in tennis, swimming etc with early exposure and hours of purposeful practice will only advantage further. Early exposure in team sports sets the ‘average’ apart from those who are average with no exposure and no hours of practice under belt.

MissRoseDurward · 29/12/2024 18:01

"hours of purposeful practice" would have been hours of misery for me. The child has to want to do it, and have some ability.

I have a friend who is a music teacher. She has had pupils who are there because their parents want them to learn an instrument, but they don't make progress because they are not motivated or interested. (She tells the parents not to waste her time and their money if she can see they're not getting anywhere.)

User14March · 29/12/2024 19:42

Purposeful practice doesn’t have to be a grind, most very competent skiers started young & enjoy themselves. ‘Sportiness’ helps with general confidence & feels natural after a while even if never going to be A team. It’s social & means you’re more likely to say yes to Sunday mixed, fun netball etc at Uni :)

Kate's first holiday with William was in Klosters with the paparazzi photographing their every move on the slopes..
I bet Kate was grateful to her parents for all the ski holidays prior to that as she was supposed to have been as good as the royals. Imagine if he had brought a complete beginner the press would have had a field day!

Terrible waste of academic brilliance on Kate's part if all she managed to achieve was snagging the future King, as I don't think she ever had a proper job!

I often wonder what would happen if George rebelled and went off to do his own thing at 18. I wouldnt blame him at all. Would he have a choice not to be POW I wonder.

MerryMaker · 29/12/2024 20:20

Kate was a bright all rounder. I would not class this as academic brilliance. Plenty of women like her have children and never really work.

What about before the DH and kids?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/12/2024 20:27

People at Jigsaw where she worked after uni sold stories about her so she went to work at her parents firm when it got serious with William.

It's not a terrible waste , I am delighted that our future queen is so accomplished & academic..I think she is a great role model especially when she plays hockey, tennis or sprints, it's possible to be an all rounder

She worked incredibly part time for Jigsaw as a buyer, Her only job.

She was going to be Prince Williams wife, she didn't need any other job.

Wouldn't you anyone who doesn't need to work for a living didn't work? It' be great if they'd stop hogging all the best jobs so people who actually need them could get them.

HollyKnight · 29/12/2024 21:37

Calling her a role model is a bit of a stretch. As is calling her accomplished. She went to uni, got a degree, then did...nothing. Hanging around waiting for a proposal isn't something I want my daughters to aspire to.

Lovetoplan · 30/12/2024 00:09

LeHorla · 28/12/2024 23:43

Quite. The idea that Eton would turn George down sounds entirely counterintuitive. It wouldn't be surprising if William, as many OE, was keen, a few of his friends' sons will go too, etc. (+ surely someone must know where these tails are.)
However, both St Thomas and Lambrooks have been unusual choices so who knows?

Yes unusual choices - there might have been better options. Interesting to know where the advice is coming from. The education and social development of the future King is not really sonething to take risks with. I would play it safe, they may not.

Growuppeople · 30/12/2024 00:11

What boring life’s people lead and I’m not fun at all

Of course the classy, “we are a modern royal family” choice would be a very good state school (either in Windsor or London.

My step daughter got badly bullied at her state school for being posh - I dread to think what would happen to the young royals.

I hate to hear that.
I lost my sister to bullying. She wasn’t posh. She was just a normal kid who bullies decided to bully.

Lochroy · 30/12/2024 00:35

Much as everyone says Lambrook was unexpected, that was simply because the parameters were unknown. Had 'mixed school within easy distance of Windsor' been known (they were still living in London previously) then it would have been more obvious.

And that's the thing here. None of us know if they'll want co-ed or not.

If they go mixed, I think it will be St Edwards for proximity or Marlborough. I doubt Oundle offers anything to make it worth the journey. Charterhouse for the outside bet.

They will probably board, if nothing else for the lack of suitable mixed day schools close to Windsor.

It's a whole different convo if they pick single sex schools.

Solent123 · 30/12/2024 00:36

In his book James Middleton didn't have the best school experience, there's been so many posts on this thread saying how fab it was that Kate and Pippa were sporty and did well at Marlborough but James had a horrible time there which, I think K&W will bear in mind.

@Lochroy Oundle is less than an hour's drive from Anmer hall.
