The Christmas tree is down!

ILikeMySuitcase · 26/12/2024 12:42

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

I've started taking things down lights etc... tree down and away tomorrow without a doubt and up in the loft... yipeeeee

VerbenaGirl · 27/12/2024 20:33

Ours never comes down before New Year!

Abracadabra12345 · 27/12/2024 21:16

I love autumn and hate this rushing on from one thing to another, and putting a Christmas tree up in the autumn - 10 November! - is doing just that. OP will be stocking up on Easter stuff next week

Mine only went up Xmas Eve.

Greenshed · 27/12/2024 21:43

No way are mine coming down until 12th night. They take some time to put up, look lovely and brighten up these dreary days. I see no point in dismantling everything on Boxing Day, it’s still Christmas in my book, but each to their own, and if you want to take them down on Dec 26th, take them down.

ObieJoyful · 27/12/2024 22:06

I put mine up on Christmas Eve and take it down on the 12th night.

volingaround · 27/12/2024 22:28

What I find weird is how the people who remove every scrap of Xmas decor on the second day of Christmas always feel the need to announce this on social media like they have bloody exorcised the place 😂 I never see these annual service announcements from the people who wait until twelfth night!

neighboursmustliveon · 27/12/2024 22:35

I will never understand people who take their decs down before Christmas is over. For me Christmas is a season that doesn’t end until minimum 2nd jan. NYE and NYD are just as much a celebration in our family.

We will probably take ours down on the 3rd but not back at work till the 6th so I might be able to get DH to keep them up till the 5th.

Mines coming down at the weekend and I give no shits that some random on the internet will do a sad face.

Absolutely this. Mine is coming down when I get back from being abroad

Ours have been up since November 10th, not sick of them, I absolutely adore Christmas however I need to have everything down and the house cleaned top to bottom for New Years eve.

I'm working between 29th - 1st so won't be able to do it then, have family visiting tomorrow so unlikely to have time & i have 5 Christmas trees to take down. Plus I'll be swapping from Christmas to a few wintery decorations.

I think I’ve posted this before, but I simply can’t get my head round putting Christmas decorations up so early that it’s on or before Remembrance Day/Remembrance Sunday. Completely and utterly jarring to me.

Just my opinion of course.

What, already tidied up the tree? Did you have it up since October, but tidied up as soon as Christmas started(25th)?its 12 days of Christmas.

I only know 1 person who decorates ridiculously early then takes everything down extremely quickly. I keep my thoughts to myself but it did surprise me. Their Christmas is all about consumerism and nothing to do with religion though. Many of the others i know do attend church etc so decorating starts later and seems much more sensible/tasteful somehow.

I really detest people who put their trees up too early if they also take them down too early. Christmas is the whole period not just one day.

This is why I prefer dogs to people.

How can you detest someone for putting up a fucking tree in their own home? Are they tying you to a chair at gunpoint and making you look at it?

Fuck me, people are nuts. Why give a shit about what other people do?

How do you know their Christmas is all about consumerism? What has religion and going to church got to do with it - neither make you more sensible or tasteful.

Our Christmas tree 🎄 no all the decorations don’t get put away until January 5 !
However we don’t put them up until sometime between 10-15 December usually mid December .
its easy enough for us , we have a pre lit Balsam Hill tree and husband gets that out of the garage + some of the decorations.
This year I wasn’t feeling great so my youngest decorated it , it’s a bit “ unbalanced “ 🤣 but she’s got all the nicest decorations on it and the homemade ones

PrioritisePleasure24 · 28/12/2024 09:32

Ours goes up first weekend in December/closest when off work. Then comes down new year’s day or day after and have a good clean. We aren’t religious so don’t follow the twelve days.

Social media is encouraging this tbh. Let’s get the trees up in November, no wonder they are sick of it. I don’t get taking it down boxing day it’s still xmas.

OPs updates actually give her reasons. We've done it boxing day before now because of work and other plans meaning we didn't have any other big chunk of time to do it for weeks. I like it down before NYE so that the new year starts clear and fresh (and I'm usually back to work straight after NYD anyway).

Honestly, if it suits people, why does it matter? It's their home, their tree, their time. Doesn't hurt anyone.

Abracadabra12345 · 28/12/2024 10:23

Not aimed at the OP but the trend of taking down Christmas trees and decorations on Boxing Day..

This ^. I couldn’t give a shit when people put up/take down their tree, but the eagerness to announce it on social media is weird.

I don’t have social media but what are people posting?

pollymere · 28/12/2024 13:33

Sorry. This really annoys me! 1-24 Dec is Advent. That's why you have an Advent Calendar as the countdown to Christmas. Then you have Christmas which lasts for 12 days and ends on 5/6 January depending on your tradition. So my Christmas Decs went up near the end of Advent and will stay up for Christmas.

I don't mind people putting their decorations up early but you can't then be sick on them when Christmas is barely a day old.

Why on earth would it annoy you?? It's not your tree! Such an odd reaction. I'd understand if they were threatening to come and take your decorations down.

Not everyone is religious and follows Advent.

That isn't Advent. It was this year as it will always sometimes be but it cycles through. Advent starts 4 Sundays before Christmas so can be any date between 27 November and 3 December.

Advent calendars are really 1-25 December calendars as they nearly always inaccurately include the first day of Christmas and only ever start on the actual first day of Advent every 7th year (might be less than 7, leap years must change it but that's too tiring to work out off the top of my head).

Who says a tree is specific to the 12 days and not to advent? Didn't the wise men follow the star (tree topper) to find Jesus? So that would mean it was visible on the 25th. Not necessary afterwards.

Maybe people like their decorations for advent, and to have a more minimal 12 days?

What does it matter to you? Why does it annoy you what other people do, what or how the celebrate and when they do it?
