The Christmas tree is down!

ILikeMySuitcase · 26/12/2024 12:42

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

Yes. I'm the one derailing. You're absolutely right. I'm the one who won't answer questions about the opinion I've given and duplicate replies to posters saying the same thing.

No...wait...

Bye.

I have answered many times over but you keep on asking the same question and then tell me I refuse to answer you while refusing to answer how my posts are impacting you? Ask a silly question and all that…. 😂

@ObtuseMoose @Parker231 @IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos , I agree, why would people put up decorations they don’t really like year after year? But they obviously do, as I hear many people moaning about how sick they are of them even on Christmas Day, and if you’re putting up things that you like and that don’t overwhelm you or your normal decorating style, I just don’t see how you’d be spending the day after Christmas taking everything down.

I maintain that this phenomenon is easily explained by the amount of people who I see with strobing seizure lights flashing in their living rooms while I’m out walking. It sickens me (meaning physically sick and uncomfortable, not morally outraged) and I’m not even in the room.

I just can’t bring myself to spend money on utter shit to be honest. It’s only for the kids, so it’s crap poundland baubles that I replace every few years and the tree was the cheapest one in Tesco a decade ago.

I am very aware that I’d match with the Grinch on tinder.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 27/12/2024 14:12

Seriously are people really arguing on a thread about bloody Christmas trees! And the snobby and snooty responses say more about those posters than the ones who have taken their trees down.

Madness. The two turtle doves are only on their way today. You've got ages till the drummers start drumming.

Will be illegal when I become a petty dictator of the world.

100% agree!

LlynTegid · 27/12/2024 14:44

I wait until after New Year's Day at least, often until just before Twelfth Night. Even though I don't have a long Christmas break from work.

Parker231 · 27/12/2024 13:33

What about those of us who put their decorations up two weeks before Christmas and take them down on Boxing Day and don’t decorate for Easter. Will you also be critiquing my education and intelligence?

It's not all about you, love.

Mines coming down at the weekend and I give no shits that some random on the internet will do a sad face.

This ☝️

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/12/2024 15:36

I’d keep mine up all year if DH would let me.

YDBear · 27/12/2024 18:15

Doesn’t anyone wait for 12th Night anymore? In my childhood the tree always came down on 12th night and we kids shared out the chocolate decorations. We felt it was some compensation for having to go back to school.

TheWelshposter · 27/12/2024 18:24

Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year...I can't imagine the tree coming down, my children would have something to say!
I usually stay off social media around this time because all the posts of "that's Christmas away, house all deep cleaned" by 10am on Boxing Day really make me sad for some reason.

SoftKitty · 27/12/2024 18:28

Wow, there are some judgemental people on this thread! So what if someone wants to put their tree up in November, take it down on Boxing Day, or leave it up until fucking Easter. If it doesn’t impact you personally, why does it matter to you? Jeez.

FWIW I’m with you, OP. We’ve just taken our tree and decorations down this evening (27th Dec) and packed them away (they went up on 1st Dec, which is way too early for my liking but DS wanted them up, so up they went). Now it’s all put away, I’ll be cleaning tomorrow while DS is at work. As far as I’m concerned, Christmas is over now, and I like to start the new year with a clean, fresh house, so the decorations always come down on the 27th or 28th Dec.

Each to their own, isn’t it.

GoldenGail · 27/12/2024 18:31

My tree stays up till 21st March when spring arrives. It brightens the place all through winter

Single50something · 27/12/2024 18:34

TwinkleLights24 · 26/12/2024 12:48

No. The ones on social media taking theirs down are the same ones that had theirs up November 1st.

Madness to me it’s still very much Christmas for us.

Yes that's what I think. So many people were putting them up early /mid November and then they take it down on boxing day?!

fetchacloth · 27/12/2024 19:01

Nope not yet. The tree only went up Xmas eve so will be up until just after New Year.

tommyhoundmum · 27/12/2024 19:43

Ours is up in the back garden and will be completely visible and very twinkly until the end of winter. Lights off at night, of course. It's really cheery.

DungareesAndTrombones · 27/12/2024 19:55

I really wanted to take mine down today but only because I've bought a new dresser that i want to put in the space and I'm impatient to see it! I'm going to try hang on until Sunday...

Anonym00se · 27/12/2024 20:01

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/12/2024 15:36

I’d keep mine up all year if DH would let me.

When DS moved out and got his first flat he put a tree up and left it up until he moved out two years later. When I asked “why is that bloody tree still up?” he said it was to save him having to put it up again in December.

Jumpers4goalposts · 27/12/2024 20:04

I really detest people who put their trees up too early if they also take them down too early. Christmas is the whole period not just one day.

What? You detest people who put up/take down decorations in their own home on a different timescale to you?

I'm pleased you have so little to worry about in life.

Bit extreme.
