The Christmas tree is down!

ILikeMySuitcase · 26/12/2024 12:42

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

We put ours up on Christmas Eve and take everything down on New Year’s Day.

It’s not long dark and tedious unless you make it. Have you been out today - great for a long run or walk to get some fresh air .

Yes it is, I hate January and February no matter what you do with them.

And no, Boxing Day for me is for lounging with my twinkly lights all on, enjoying my own company for a bit after the bustle and stress of yesterday!

Will be happy when we get to March.

Ah poo, were you just seeking validation?

Validation for what?? I’m not the one creating threads because I took my tree down on boxing today most likely because the decorations went up too early 🙄

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

@ILikeMySuitcase

🙄 Oh FFS it's Boxing Day. As a pp said, it's still Christmas.

How ridiculous. Pulling the Christmas tree down on Boxing Day. Hmm

Why even bother putting it up at all?! Also, why are you telling everyone on Mumsnet about it? Do you want a medal? Here, have one.....🏅

Mumofnarnia · 26/12/2024 14:43

The same with you?? Why comment on my post if you don’t or you do agree with it? Have a good day too 😁

Edited

Why post then if you don't want anyone to comment on it??!

Bumbleebeetree · 26/12/2024 14:38

Why would you take it down when it's only the second day of Christmas?

And then excitedly rush to Mumsnet to tell everyone! Like they're just soooo edgy! 😂

Because I want to post! People don’t need to comment on it 🙄

NorthernGirl1981 · 26/12/2024 14:58

My tree comes down every Boxing Day. It’s like the Christmas mayhem never happened and it’s lovely!

CasuirDubh · 26/12/2024 12:45

No. Today is only the second day of Christmas.

Perhaps if people stopped putting decorations up so early they wouldn't be taking them down so early .Boxing day is for relaxing and enjoying

MandSCrisps · 26/12/2024 14:59

I know someone who puts theirs up on November 1st and then down on Boxing Day. She loves to say to people - I can’t believe you’ve still got those decorations up blah blah. She always acts like she’s doing it better than everyone somehow.

LifeExperience · 26/12/2024 14:59

If you celebrate Christmas only because of culture, then do whatever. We celebrate Christmas as a religious event, so decorations don't go up until Advent is over and don't come down until after Epiphany.

Elednia · 26/12/2024 14:59

No, ours will be up for the 12 days of Christmas until Epiphany, January 6. Well, we will likely take it down a bit drunkenly on 12th Night so we can burn it, to be honest. 12th Night is always a bit rowdy round our way.

CrispyK · 26/12/2024 14:59

If I was your family visiting tomorrow, I’d probably be a bit bemused about why you’d taken the tree down when it’s still Christmas.

If you really wanted them down early it would have made more sense to do it after tomorrow.

housemaus · 26/12/2024 15:00

I took mine down Boxing Day last year (I'd put it up on 15th). Feeling lazy today though so it'll probably be up til the weekend.

Everyone saying it's still the 12 days of Christmas - that might be true traditionally, but socially, 'the Christmas period' starts early Dec and the bit between Christmas and New Year once Christmas Day is over don't feel especially Christmassy, do they? If you have small children you're not taking them to see Father Christmas or meet the reindeer etc after 25th Dec are you? 'Christmas' as it's interpreted in a broader social sense - the anticipation for and then enjoyment of the day where you exchange presents and have a meal with family and friends-type stuff that everyone associates with Christmas, the 25th December - is over. I'm genuinely surprised so many of you are shocked that people don't class this period as still feeling Christmassy - regardless of what is Christian tradition, the secular version of Christmas is largely done by about 9pm on Christmas day when everyone falls asleep!

Careful! People will be quick to jump on your post and ask why you bothered to open the thread if you don’t agree with it 😆

We’re atheists so it’s time for family, parties, good food and drinks, presents etc. We don’t follow any religious rules.

TrollTheAncientYuletideCarol · 26/12/2024 15:03

What does everyone do who insists the Christmas period only starts on 24th when they go shopping in Dec, close their eyes?! There are Christmas events, nativities, church things, shops, plays, drinks and parties prior to 25th. It's one long festive period.

@housemaus that's what I think.

HollyKnight · 26/12/2024 15:04

Lol you sound fun. Are you like this on every occasion? The second the clock strikes midnight, "Happy New Year! Goodbye and goodnight."

h7htj392 · 26/12/2024 15:04

Redmat · 26/12/2024 13:07

Trees never used to go up until mid December and then stayed until 6th Jan. It's only in the last 15 years or so we've had them going up in November and being torn down when Christmas has barely started. Ridiculous to take it down today !

Edited

Indeed - it does seem to be a recent trend. I still put mine up in mid-December and take it down on Twelfth Night.

Exactly! Putting the decorations/Christmas tree up on 10th November, (as the OP claims she did,) is as batshit as taking it down on Boxing Day. Also batshit: making a thread about it on Mumsnet! 😆

Toottooot · 26/12/2024 15:05

Mine is down today - various reasons including the space is needed for new toys and my husband is away for 4 weeks from tomorrow and I am not fucking about packing it up and doing loft jobs by myself. Judge away.

VickyEadieofThigh · 26/12/2024 15:05

We were away until 18th December and weren't able to put any decs up until last Saturday, so we'll leave them up into the new year this time.

LightsAndBaubles · 26/12/2024 15:05

I don't understand why people put their decorations up so early and then can't wait to take them down!!!

My tree has only been up just over a week..........we will still have it up for New Year. The bit between Christmas Day and New Years Day is what we enjoy the most!!!

You’ll just get told not to open the thread if you don’t like it like I have just been told 😆
