Boxing Day football - are you partaking or losing out to it today? Or ignoring it?!!

My knowledge of the sport is limited. All I know is that Leeds United are away at Stoke this evening. However, I am aware that Boxing Day is important for football and many fans and families. Are you one of those going to a match or waving others off to see them again in about twelve hours' time?

We're not doing anything today but DH's team kick off at 8pm tonight so that's my excuse to get some much needed kip.

Great thread OP.

Semi-partaking and a slightly gutted.

I am a season ticket holder but I don’t go on Boxing Day since I met my husband as it’s Christmas Day 2 for the stepkids.

I am going to put it on the tv though!

Up the terriers! 🐕

PS we are taking my nephew to a game in a few days, he’s declared he supports our team - I’m emotional about it. 😢

Dh has a football match he's going to this afternoon.

HappyDartsmas · 26/12/2024 10:22

Partaking - merry football dartsmas.

Football today, darts tomorrow 😍

dontforgetme · 26/12/2024 10:22

Ours kicks off at 3pm, perfect timing for nibbles and booze! We were outstanding on Saturday so I'm hoping for a repeat.

WinterBerry7 · 26/12/2024 10:24

3pm KO for DH’s team but a great excuse for a pub trip or everyone round to ours for drinks and snacks. Not a big football fan but happy to get involved today!

Parky04 · 26/12/2024 10:33

I work at the local football club, so I'm definitely partaking!

Sky’s marketing has worked a treat here 😉 🎉

Boys all going to the game, as usual. We are doing so badly just now that we seem to be trying to get relegated two seasons on the bounce. All good, DD and I at home watching crap on the telly :)

Fratty · 26/12/2024 10:36

Partaking! We're going to watch our local lower league team play something of a derby. Then to the pub for a few drinks afterwards then home for steak and chips.

Itsagrandoldteam · 26/12/2024 10:36

Big football fans here, but I haven't been to a boxing day game since 1999, family come first, since then we have always either been staying with my inlaws or they are with us. Although it wont stop my son watching it on the tv.

Our local Scout group have a match this morning going to see my son and grandson,

Sheknowsaboutme · 26/12/2024 10:53

My DH and kids are football mad. So leaving them to it. DC2 is off back to uni today as training is on tomorrow.

so im off for a walk and a pint

biscuitsandbooks · 26/12/2024 10:54

Nobody in our family watches football or gives two shits about it, lol.

Stef92 · 26/12/2024 10:55

3pm kick off today, managed to get tickets for my son for his first game.. apprehensive as fear he may be too young but hoping we can enjoy the match and his favourite player Anthony Gordon gets the winner ⚽️

Greycheck · 26/12/2024 10:56

Boxing Day is all about the sport.

Early kick off for my team. Few bets on the football, then the racing and then my OH and youngest are off to the match to watch their team which are the late kick off today.

Up the Toffees 💪

starpatch · 26/12/2024 10:58

DS is planning to watch lots of boxing day football on prime so our day is planned around that. Would rather take him to see the local team but at least he agreed to a walk this morning and is getting ready. Have some toffee popcorn stashed away so will break that out later.

Giggorata · 26/12/2024 11:01

We have only one football fan in our family, and he is undoubtedly enjoying Boxing Day matches at home, with his equally footy mad wife.

Must be fun in your house Greycheck although easier the past two games!

it is Amazon football day so pretty much back to back football tv. Leaving DS and OH too it (although the Liverpool 8pm kick off is a pain as thah is the one match I won’t get anything out of them for)

Me and DD are going to IKEA. Might watch the 17:30 kick off have a soft spot for Wolves and thau could be anything!

Sophiasguitar · 26/12/2024 11:06

Season ticket holder but we’re away today. Will be watching all the football.

Basketballhoop · 26/12/2024 11:10

We usually go, but MIL is still here and H feels she can't be left alone or we will come back to her floundering about on the floor, beetle like, probably with another black eye. She has fallen twice already since being here and difficult conversations are inbound about living alone. So, we are wrapping her up in cotton wool, bubble wrap and a warm coat, putting her scooter in the car and taking her to Wisley for afternoon tea. Teenage sons are still off to football with a family friend though. I am not much of a fan, but I know where I would rather be today. 😳

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 26/12/2024 11:12

H and other family gone already, driving across London. Then need to find parking. Can't think of anything worse. I'm going to have a lovely coverlet day.

Cattery · 26/12/2024 11:17

A lovely excuse to get the beers out! Cheers! ⚽️

SKYTVADDICT · 26/12/2024 11:20

Partaking. Currently driving (in 2 cars) from Lincolnshire to Shrewbury. Up The Imps. It's a family day out ❤️
