For me it’s how disgusting it is to wash dishes in a sink or basin full of water. It turns my stomach a bit. The dishes have to be washed in fresh, running water.

Nice manners, clear diction and good spelling and grammar are important.

@MyGhastIsFlabbered I read somewhere that it's because vegans are proof that there is a choice not to eat animals and some people find this confrontational. We all like to think we like animals and are kind to them but the majority of people still eat them so play a part in their harm. This makes people uncomfortable and causes cognitive dissonance (I think this is the right term) which may cause people to become defensive. It's easier to attack the person that makes us feel uncomfortable rather than look out ourselves and our own behaviour maybe

No, people hate all people who are preachy, give unsolicited advice with an overwhelming air of pretentiousness often displaying that the are uninformed about the subject they are being preachy about.

I notice that people who are confident with their choice to be vegan or vegetarian and who have put thoughts into doing it in a correct way regarding nutrition are not preachy about it. The people who are following a fad or are doing it for attention are preachy. And they are the ones making people hate vegetarians and vegans.

I have some health issues and members of my nearest family have some other health issues that mean it would be very difficult for us to be fully vegetarian. I have noticed that it is only the fad- vegetarians who have a problem with that.

Your first sentence is spot on and can be applied equally to so many different situations but I think other than ex smokers I can’t think of any other situations where an entire group of people are labelled and undermined because of a personal choice that they’ve made which affects no one but themself just because a small number of them are preachy twats.

Dog owners. On MN, all dog owners are viewed as sociopaths just because a minority are irresponsible. There is a dog hate thread almost every day...

squashyhat · 28/12/2024 08:22

Anyone who says they are not afraid of death is lying or deluded. How can you not be?

I'm not afraid of death, I'm afraid of (dying in) pain.

Sux2buthen · 28/12/2024 08:34

Birthday surprises and gifts are for adults too!

Many many men are lovely

I'm not worried about UPF

It's ok to not really be an animal lover and be fairly indifferent to them, I don't think they are better than people

It doesn't take a village, my kids are amazing and I barely have a soul helping me in any way

I'm vegetarian and I have a big dog but no kids, am also neurodiverse/anxious. I seem to tick every single box on MN for qualifying as "batshit crazy" 😁

I am genuinely not the only thing I’m scared of is pain and suffering sometimes I wish I could get a pill that would just knock me out and let me die in peace. I don’t care whether I live or die. I have never cared whether I lived or died since a very young age. I generally don’t get this fixation on how we need to live a long time because I don’t want to be here. I just actively haven’t got the courage to try to kill myself.

Exactly my thoughts the problem is people don’t realise there are many people that don’t have any family don’t really want to be here suffering and couldn’t give a shit anymore. This we all have to pretend that life is great is a load of shite

Abbyk1980 · 28/12/2024 09:16

The opinion that I have is very unpalatable I think people who want their parents or anybody else to extend their lives while they are suffering are very selfish and this extension of life is ridiculous.
For example I was in hospital once this poor lady didn’t have a clue what was going on. They had to put an alarm on her bed because she kept trying to escape now she had actually just been given a pacemaker to keep her alive while she obviously had cognitive problems, because she didn’t quite understand that she had to stay in bed because you have to to be safe after you’ve had the operation.
I then happened to say to the nurse why the hell have people given her a bloody pacemaker when she doesn’t know where she is but apparently that wasn’t the right attitude to have the point is it’s family members I could say that we’re visiting a encouraging this this is stupid. Why are we keeping people alive? That quite frankly shouldn’t be alive

MushMonster · 28/12/2024 09:17

That children should be removed from everyday life: do not take them to a coffee shop, restaurant, supermarket, bank, church (that is a priceless one, church! Recently spouted out by a so called christian here), doctor.... name it.
I find beyond disgusting every time anyone moans about the existance of children and I do not like people who says so even a little bit.
I do not like or trust people who dislike cats and/ or dogs either.

Shannith · 28/12/2024 09:18

Most homes with children are bad homes for most dogs.

No one should be allowed a working breed without a licence that proves they understand and will work (or equivalent) the dog.

Dog rescues should be strictly licensed and regulated.

Horses should mostly live out.

The RSPCA are worthless

DGPP · 28/12/2024 09:19

That assisted dying shouldn’t be legalised. It 100% should

Well, I agree with you, controversy and all.
Back a long time ago, I learnt of a 40 something waiting on a complex heart surgery. Next person in the list was an 80 something male, with health complications. This man would have to go through the suffering for one or two years of life, with which quality? In the meantime, 40 year old cannot have the procedure. Me, personally, I do not want to extend my suffering in any way.

The death penalty. I want to see them in jail for the rest of their lives. Murdering the murderer is not the answer.

This. ^ We don't allow animals to live in pain, and go on suffering, yet it's OK to do it to humans...........? Confused

My DH has got a theory that they keep humans alive as test subjects (when they're very ill/have a disease/are in pain, and suffering.)

Maybe he's right. What other reason is there..... ??? 'oooh, but we may find a cure next week!'

Yeah, except they won't!'

I agree with the death penalty for certain vile and vicious crimes, but put them on death row, so they don't know when their execution is coming. Execute them 5 to 7 years later - so they have a few years to suffer, not knowing when their death is coming. Also gives them a chance to prove their innocence (on the very rare occasion they're innocent!)

Why should the tax payer fund murderers, and child-rapists to live often a better life than some pensioners? (And many people who aren't pensioners) who can barely afford to heat their home, and feed themselves???

100% this. People hating children in CHURCH floored me! Shock Who hates children being in CHURCH?!

I LOVE seeing - and hearing children in Church! Also, the vast majority of the time, the 'little ones' are in a room at the back (in Sunday School,) so I questioned that poster's claim of badly behaved children in Church anyway. The only time I have ever experienced noisy/disruptive behaviour in Church is when a family is there who don't normally come (they're only there because they want to use the Church for a wedding.) But even that is rare. Most of those children are pretty OK.

People who revel in being bad at maths need to learn! Nobody simpers and says they are rubbish at English.

Some of us have dyscalculia so I'm afraid I cannot learn...
