Where do you hide your presents?

No I'm not a burglar 😅
Just curious and looking for inspiration as kids get older!

Currently it's under our ottoman bed which has a ridiculously heavy mattress on it so no chance can they lift that.

I have hidden ours in plain sight this year. Almost. We have a cupboard on the landing we keep the Hoover and random crap in. If DC just opened the doors they would see their Santa sack and wrapped presents! All ok so far…

ETA our DC are 7 (believes) and 12 (going on 15 and absolutely not a believer!)

TheChosenTwo · 24/12/2024 09:14

I don’t need to worry about hiding things anymore because they are all old enough to know about Father Christmas - such a relief!
presents from us go under the tree as and when they’re wrapped and always have done, and their stocking presents (they are old enough to know but not old enough to not want a stocking 😂) are all put in the storage cupboard in my office.

cariadlet · 24/12/2024 09:30

I hid them on top of the wardrobe when dd was little but moved onto putting them in the loft when she was older.

ExquisiteDecorations · 24/12/2024 09:35

Are you sure they can't open the ottoman bed? Ours have been able to open ours since we got it when they were about 10 and 8. Before that, in the Santa years it was the loft till a few days before, then the garden shed or car boot.

ChronicallySleepy · 24/12/2024 09:36

Upstairs bathroom, we don't use it as we have one downstairs, pretty sure the kids don't even know we have a second bathroom.

i get things delivered to my mums house, and pop round their to wrap. We collected it all last night and it’s now hidden in our garage

When the children were young, we had a big cupboard on the landing, I would put all the presents in there and tie the double doors shut with a big red ribbon. They knew that gifts were in there and if they looked it was on them. They would have to untie the ribbon which would give them time to think about the results and if they really wanted to.

as adults they have confessed they have either together or individually looked and debated but never did open the cupboard and going by the faces Christmas morning I believe that. I also had the rule that no chocolate off the tree until Christmas Eve. If you I still these rules/traditions young enough it’s not an issue.

now we are in a smaller house and only my DD is at home, presents are in my wardrobe everyone knows that if they want to look they can, same as I know gifts to me are in DH wardrobe and my DD puts hers in her wardrobe. I could look if I wanted

TotallyKerplunked · 24/12/2024 09:43

Never need to bother as my DCs are the most unobservant kids. Things have been in bags in the hallway for weeks. I wrapped stuff a few days ago and put it under the tree and DS1 asked "where did you hide all that?" 😆

RoseGoldRainbow · 24/12/2024 09:45

Under the ottoman bed too! Our DD is only 2 so she can’t open it, I struggle to open it at times!

georgepigg · 24/12/2024 09:46

Box room but I wrap them and put them under the tree asap because I work in the box room. Had presents under the tree for weeks. So I guess that’s our main storage spot 😄

Oh also some in DH’s garden office but again, he works in there so in the way. Bigger than the box room though!

Yes, we used to do the hiding in plain sight thing too, to be honest our house isn't the tidiest and it's not unusual for there to be bags and boxes in corners.

greenmeasuringtape · 24/12/2024 09:47

Wrapped up in a bag in plain sight

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 24/12/2024 09:48

We have a cupboard in our house called ‘Mum’s cupboard’ and no one goes near it. I think they all like the surprise.

It is the used to store Christmas presents, birthday presents, Easter eggs, seasonal treats etc.

InfoSecInTheCity · 24/12/2024 09:50

Cupboard under the stairs here.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 24/12/2024 09:51

In a shipping container. No chance they'd have looked in as I had the key to the padlock Grin

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 24/12/2024 09:54

On the sure room bed under a duvet 🤣

Spare room!

LeylaOfCircassia · 24/12/2024 09:55

Ours are older now, but I used to store them in suitcases. We never had so many that it didnt work. Agree with all the in plain sight posters.

Radishknot · 24/12/2024 09:57

Box room, wardrobes before I get them into the loft. Often I’ve stuffed them in random places eg under the stairs, kitchen cupboard & then forgot where I put them.

Bearsinmotion · 24/12/2024 09:58

Also cupboard under the stairs here. You have to move a heavy chair to open it and it's normally full of old toys and random crap anyway!

BoobyDazzler · 24/12/2024 10:00

Ours just go under the tree now but they’re both young adult.

Itsaswelltime · 24/12/2024 10:00

I have a fabric tote bag on our coat rack (back of the door connecting the living space to the entrance and pop things in there (if they fit). Otherwise at work or in a larger empty handbag (back of bedroom door).

Iloveeastereggs2020 · 24/12/2024 10:20

Locked in suitcases in the garage

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 24/12/2024 11:24

There's a section in our bedroom that is a wall with a shelf. The shelf lid comes off and behind the wall is dead space. I've made sure never to have she shelf off in front of the kids so they have no idea all the gifts are in there!

ForgettingMeNot · 24/12/2024 11:26

I hide them under the kids beds. It's the last place they'd think of!
