Cat has weed on Christmas presents

😭

As above. Fuck! They were in a suitcase and I was packing and I went to another room to get my clothes. So now I need to buy replacement Christmas presents for 6 people aged between 1 and 75 at Kings Cross tomorrow morning. All while carrying a million bag lady bags because my big suitcase is out of action due to the wee. Thank goodness I'd hardly put any clothes in I guess! What a start to Christmas!

But no one be nasty about my beautiful girl she is old and doddery and a bit gross but is utterly perfect.

Read the title too quickly and though the cat was on cannabis.

Most cats might as well be.

My aging feline has been missing the tray too... today's plan includes a trip to get an emergency cheap rug 🙄

We've been trying to keep him away from the tree. I'm never sure whether it's senility or bloody mindedness because his routine has been disrupted.

Thank you all.

I don't know how quickly I noticed - within 15 mins or so but enough time for it have seeped in to most of them. I've unwrapped (a disgusting job!) and a couple have got off seemingly unscathed so going to air overnight just to check there's no scent. It's a plastic suitcase, which is good for cleaning I guess, but seems to have pooled and run throughout the case.

A couple are not exactly ruined but aren't giftable - e.g. fancy hot chocolate set where the cardboard packaging is ruined but the inner tin of hot choc isn't. It's such a 'toxic' substance that really even a splash makes not giftable! Poor Richard Osman book has really taken the brunt of it.

I need a plan of action for St Pancras tomorrow. Thinking between Fortnum, The White Company and the book shop I should be able to manage, although my gifts will seem less thoughtful than normal.

If you tell them about the cat peeing, I’m sure everyone will find it funny and think you’re more (rather than less) thoughtful and loving for buying everyone presents at such short notice!

Jennyathemall · 24/12/2024 08:23

and that’s why I don’t have cats

goodkidsmaadhouse · 24/12/2024 08:26

Personally I would be happy with a present that a cat had peed on as long as it had been thoroughly cleaned but I realise I am probably the exception 😂

One of ours has bladder issues so he does wee in the house at times but he’s now weaponised it - recently he weed on DH’s work papers while DH was WFH and in the middle of a conference call…

Good luck, OP!

Brindisa · 24/12/2024 08:28

Op I love all cats and simultaneously know they are all dicks occasionally!

i think you will be fine at St Pancras. Get there early to give yourself time. As well as fortnums, hatchards, white stuff, hamleys, you could also get some expensive boxes of macarons or posh chocolates from some of the shops there.

Yes, I think you're right. When I was a child our dog jumped up on the side and took a bite out of the side of my birthday cake. My mother cut off the side it had bitten (truthfully I don't think we can know how much tongue got on the other side) and served the rest. I was so utterly appalled and grossed out by it and had to pretend to enjoy the cake. This is the cat pee equivalent of that.

And I don't think I'll be able to keep the story to myself!

On the plus side, my sister was getting some rather lovely linen napkins and I'll enjoy having those for myself!

Ha ha! We have a similar story.

has your cat been seen by a vet recently. I know you say she’s elderly but inappropriate seeing should always be checked out. Hope you have enough energy for some suitable cat worshipping when you get back from your last minute Xmas shopping!

There are a couple of cellophane wrapped things that look like they might be ok now out of their cellophane and wondering if I can gift without the wrapping e.g. box of chocs, candle. The thing is, I couldn't explain why I was gifting without the wrapping without totally putting people off the gift!

Say you spilled your tea in them. Don’t tell them about the cat wee!

Stopthatplease · 24/12/2024 08:48

I had this once, but it was a dog we were looking after on a semi permanent basis, he decided that the Christmas tree needed marking on Christmas morning with all the wrapped gifts underneath it. I was not impressed, especially as we were hosting too.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 24/12/2024 08:53

@Bromptotoo
I thought that as well I came on here in case it was a serious thread as I think my old boy is going to need some medical cannabis soon.
But this is way better. Also OP my beloved other half spends a fortune at the shops in St Pancras which she unfortunately passes through most days after work. So there must be some good places there.
She said white company are out of most winter scented candles. There is a decent WH Smith near M and S as you enter opposite Kings Cross.
If you need to replace Richard Osman, I'm not a fan why not a lovely Agatha Christie? 450 from Paddington had a Xmas opening.

TheBluntTurtle · 24/12/2024 09:04

Oh no!! Cats just love a suitcase don’t they?! When I was decorating my bedroom I packed up all my clothes in a suitcase and unknown to me my cat was using the suitcase full of clothes as a litter tray the whole time - poos and wees! Luckily I was wearing decorating clothes so hadn’t worn anything out of the suitcase!

im sure your family will find the story funny and appreciate the gifts you get. What about gift vouchers and a nice bottle/ chocs too - or things like cinema voucher with bag of popcorn/ sweets, take away voucher and a bottle of wine/ beers etc?

You should deffo sign the gift tag ‘from ‘cats name’ with a paw print! 🐾

Read the room @Onand 🙄

@CatStoleMyChocolate Honestly I'd love to share photographs, I have thousands of her. At this very moment she is curled up on my legs and her precious face is under her adorable paw and her soft tummy fur is showing, god I'm so lucky to have her. But I'm oddly attached to my anonymity so instead I will just have to paint a picture with my words and ask you to imagine the finest, sleekest black panther with enormous green eyes and a tiny chip in her ear that adds to her charm.

And thank you, I had forgotten about Hamleys! This makes things much better!

Totally understand the desire for anonymity! You paint a great picture, I am also slave to a small panther. Hope you get everything sorted (and that Mini Panther is ok).

ImpromptuGathering · 24/12/2024 09:37

This is why we won't have a cat again. The last one spent 7 years pissing in the house after we moved here. Never did it in the old house. Ruined the stair carpets completely.

We rehomed her in the countryside with a relative where she spends 95 percent of her life outside and is a champion mouser. All of us are happier.

turnsout · 24/12/2024 10:59

Thanks all for the replies and sympathy! En route to station now. I need recommendations for present for 3 year old niece (bit gutted as she would have loved what I had got her and really wanted her to like it - it’s plastic so I’ve kept and going to ask sister if she’d be ok with me giving as an extra now it’s had a thorough soapy bath). But can’t be “the present”. She likes dressing up, princesses, imaginary games. Loves paw patrol. I can just get her a book and she likes books but I don’t think that will spark joy in the same way.

Others I think are catered for. DM and DF - voucher for fancy restaurant nearby. Need to find some additional bits from fortnum/M&S to take to them as hosts if possible. DSis is easy I can do her in sleep she will like anything naice, baby can just have some books, DBIL will be getting a direct replacement - sorry to the Richard Osman haters (I think he’s a very nice man and the books are nice cosy murders, even if he’s more about setting than plot).

My precious girl is showing no signs of remorse or (thankfully) illness. She asked for her breakfast bright and early by breathing her fishy breath on me and we’ve just had a lengthy goodbye when I told her she was the best girl in the world. Thanks for tips re better feliway and relaxation meds - will order on the train and will send long instructions to the catsitter (who hates to see me coming).

Agree.

Urgh, as if the pukey hairballs, random scratching of people and furniture, bird killing and shitting in other people's gardens wasn't enough, they also piss everywhere. Gross.

turnsout · 24/12/2024 11:11

@MumonabikeE5 please don’t let my story put you off getting a cat! There have been a handful of incidents throughout her life - none as bad as this! In case it’s not clear, I’m besotted and she makes my life so much better. I hope your daughter gets her cat!

I think the cat is inevitable. I can’t go back on my word.
we live in a small house that I struggle to keep on the right side of chaos, so the idea of lots of extra mess is a bit grim
but I suppose lots of cats live happily in family homes so I believe you that it’s very occasional.

anyway hope the story gives your family good laughs, and that you enjoy having a lighter suitcase for the trip!

Brindisa · 24/12/2024 11:25

For the 3 year old - how about some bath crayons? Also at that age if she’s into princesses you could get her a beautiful tiara or wand or something like that from hamleys. Or even some costume jewelry/ hair clips from Oliver bonas?

best present mine got at that age was a foam sword - took it to everything for about 3 years!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/12/2024 11:27

Sorry OP... I don't have a cat but I had a dog who went upstairs and wee'd on my brand new Hypnose mattress just delivered and unwrapped. I miss her so much, don't care about the mattress.

Suitcases, boxes... these are all terrible things to have around when there are cats. They just love them, don't they? I saw a photo of some random boxes and a tiger was sitting in one.

Hope your shopping went well today.

Selttan · 24/12/2024 11:35

I'm no help to you but love how you talk about your precious girl.

I remember when my old girl was up there in age - she used to put it on for me, act all pathetic so I'd lift her up places and carry her round. Next minute she's on the roof.

God love cats! I've got two rather naughty, bossy but oh so sweet and adorable girls.
