M&S party/ buffet food

DD wants a buffet for Christmas dinner this year! We're braving M&S first thing tomorrow - it's only us two so I'm hoping to keep it as simple as possible. I'll do a roast on Boxing Day but she's not a massive fan & I do love a buffet...

Does anyone have any recommendations? Savoury & sweet?

Their cheddar and red Leicester cob on the bakery is the best cheese bread I've ever had. Their sour doughs on the bakery are also really nice. I find their deserts disappointing. Their sausage rolls are great, the posh dog sausages are lush. Pineapple tarts are to die for, cherry Madeira cake is great. They do some nice biscuits and crisps.

cheese wrapped in ham. There are some 3 for 7 /8 pound items - nice.

Yes!! Nice bread & fancy butter, and sausage rolls are definitely on the list. Love the sound of cherry Madeira cake.

I've got a recommendation of my own, actually! They have these cartons of chocolates called 'the big one' I think - they're like quality street/ roses but a million times better! I'm obsessed - can't get them on Ocado though, only in store, but they are so so much better than the usual Christmassy chocs these days.

Their pigs in blankets are good

murasaki · 23/12/2024 18:07

The mini chicken kievs and duck spring rolls are both nice. As are the chicken tikka bites.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 23/12/2024 18:08

Their swiss truffle assortment are the nicest chocs I've ever had and I like their Indian bhajis, samosas and garlic naans

MrsR87 · 23/12/2024 18:09

Their Davidstow cheese coleslaw is divine!

QueefofSheena · 23/12/2024 18:10

The little ham & cheese scones, mini lobster things, mini kievs, duck spring rolls with hoisin are all good, and all the prawn party food

IggyAce · 23/12/2024 18:11

Love their giant pretzels in the crisp aisle.
we always get a few packs of their party food we have duck samosas which look good.
Baking cambet with dough sticks.

BCBird · 23/12/2024 18:11

I agree OP. those chocs are nice

Itsaswelltime · 23/12/2024 18:14

Super lazy, but I like their premade sandwich fillers, especially the egg mayo

Chicken goujons

Onion bhaji and samosa type things

Prawn cocktail (I add some more prawns)

Anything with smoked salmon - terrines, parcels, etc.

Stollen bites

Don’t forget some crudités or crisp green salad to cut through / take a break from the richness.

My advice is to check cooking instructions carefully, we’re still talking about the Christmas more there 15 years ago when we bought party food and Christmas pudding which were supposed to go into microwave whereas we didn’t have a microwave. We managed but it was unnecessary hassle

Comedycook · 23/12/2024 18:15

I've got some pad Thai spring rolls from there which I'm excited to try

Lilacbloomers · 23/12/2024 18:16

Gingerbread cheesecake

Chocolately · 23/12/2024 18:18

We are having their sausage rolls and some other bits for our tea tonight, the smell from the oven is lovely.
I also love their roast mushroom pate on crusty baguette😋

Missmarymack2 · 23/12/2024 18:40

Seconding the cheese bread, it is delicious. I love their Cornish cruncher cheese too.

OfTheNight · 23/12/2024 18:40

The little chicken flatbreads with mint yoghurt are yum, so are the Phad Thai spring rolls.

CraftyNavySeal · 23/12/2024 18:45

Colin the caterpillar mini rolls, halloumi fries, tempura prawns, a Camembert and nice bread, one of the small posh pizzas

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 23/12/2024 18:47

New York deli spring rolls are lush!

Cally102 · 23/12/2024 19:24

Mini meat pies were a hit at pre Xmas buffet.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/12/2024 19:32

The tray of Indian snack stuff is pretty cheap, perfectly tasty and pretty good value

Their prawn and salmon terrines are nice- especially on their blinis

I love their cheese and onion quiche

The giant prawns in panko crumb are lush

cuteyfluff · 23/12/2024 19:34

The best ever yule log

Supersimkin7 · 23/12/2024 19:34

Eating baby cheese and ham scones now - yum.

Anything with prawns or smoked salmon goes in seconds.

MrsWhites · 23/12/2024 19:37

The penguin and polar bear bao buns and although not strictly a party food, their frozen garlic boule loaf if unreal!

MistyMountainTop · 23/12/2024 19:37

Word of warning, their party food has been flying out for the last 2 days so you might be stuck with prawn thermidor & scampi, of which they had tons
