... and none of your expected guests would be coming but you also weren't able to travel to anywhere you were expecting to go:

How long would the people currently in your house be able to survive with the supplies you currently have in the house?

I reckon we have enough cheese to last a fair while at least!

If we ran out of food, there's calories in alcohol. That'd last us a while.

No of course it wasn't. But this thread isn't about covid, it's about how long you could make your Xmas food last for.

Right but lockdown was the stuff of nightmares for a lot of people so it's not fun

A week! We have our usual weekly shop plus some extra bits for Christmas dinner but we don’t have a massive haul to rely on

Do people honestly only have a weeks worth of food in their house?
With all the random frost bitten meats in the freezer, tins of everything and jars of beans we would be ok for probably 3 months if we were really careful

pinneddownbytabbies · 23/12/2024 12:51

A fortnight at least. Our freezer is always fairly full, and we have loads of tins, and vegetables galore.

We might have to send the cats out to catch their own food though.😂

BobbyBiscuits · 23/12/2024 12:52

Absolutely fine, food wise. Fridge is full, there's a box in the back yard with milk and veg in it. Problem is my top oven is broken so don't know how I'll fit everything in for Xmas dinner. But I reckon probably about a months worth of food, in total. Nowhere near enough booze though!

K0OLA1D · 23/12/2024 12:52

Hell would have to freeze over before I cancelled my Christmas

But we'd last a while

spiderlight · 23/12/2024 12:52

About 23 years, I think! 😆

Mooi · 23/12/2024 12:53

A long time just on cheese and meat alone as pil always pile loads of both on us at Christmas. The snacks section is already a bit on the empty side though

Quite a few days if I rationed the teenagers. And assuming cremant is one of the main food groups.

I reckon a teenager between a couple of adults would last a good few weeks if you had enough freezer space...

(That was my first reading of your comment before I realized you must have meant rationing what food they could eat, not turning your teenagers into rations Blush)

Cremant also counts as part of your 5-a-day Xmas Grin

daffodilandtulip · 23/12/2024 12:58

How long can you live on cheese and chocolate for?

The freezer and cupboards would last a couple of weeks, albeit random mixtures.

Some of you need a Bailey's though.

Middlemarch123 · 23/12/2024 12:59

Months! MN chicken should keep us going until February!

Iliketulips · 23/12/2024 12:59

I always estimate we've got about three weeks food. Haven't done my final shop yet, but it's mainly veggies, sour cream, coleslaw, quiche, possibly a dessert, extra greek yogurt, clementines, a few cans (never more than four of us eating and most guests are like us and just can't eat loads). Buying the above would probably extend it to nearer four weeks as I'd have more veggies to freeze and spread out over the time. Just about have four weeks cat food for the cats (learnt my lesson during and after lockdown when struggled to get their usual), this could be extended as I'd give up fish in freezer and DH won't eat all the turkey breast which is just for him.

mitogoshigg · 23/12/2024 12:59

Going away so bread and milk is only enough for tomorrow breakfast. Have boring foods and can always make dal etc but not a lot of fresh as they had even run out of onions yesterday at Lidl. Its was stripped bare

mitogoshigg · 23/12/2024 13:00

But we do have 8 bottles of Prosecco left over from our wedding at least

romdowa · 23/12/2024 13:00

Not long as it's just myself , dh and ds for Christmas. I'd have to send dh to fight for pasta and loo roll again 🤣

JingleB · 23/12/2024 13:00

I’d run out of milk for coffee after a week, so there would ge some pretty ugly scenes after that.

With everything else, a good 3 weeks at least.

exLtEveDallas · 23/12/2024 13:04

As long as we remained carnivores, I reckon we could last a couple of months - took advantage of the Tesco 'half price x' that began at the start of Dec and I now have 4 joints each of beef, lamb and pork in the deep freeze!

We may end up eating them with a mixture of pasta, beans and rice though.

Teenagerantruns · 23/12/2024 13:04

I just back from doing a big shop, so at least 3 weeks maybe a month with stuff we already have if we were careful. My partner works in a supermarket so we get extra discount at Christmas have stocked up on lots of basic stuff as well as Christmas food.

😂😂😂😂 I should read my posts back to myself!

And thanks for the reassurance on the Cremant.

RomainingToBeSeen · 23/12/2024 13:06

Well into January with meals still containing some fresh/frozen fruit and veg.

I reckon we could then carry on to March using cupboards and freezer but scurvy might become a problem.

Lobstercrisps · 23/12/2024 13:06

@MostHighlyFlavoredGravy i love your username. Are you in a choir perhaps? My child is and that's their favourite naughty variation of a line.

Jellycatspyjamas · 23/12/2024 13:07

We’d be good for at least a month, I did a huge bulk cook last weekend so the freezer is stacked with casseroles and things plus the Christmas food. I’d run out of fresh veggies but the frozen veg would last a while. I love a winter stocked kitchen.

Cattery · 23/12/2024 13:08

Probably until about March? 🤣

Nothatgingerpirate · 23/12/2024 13:08

Probably for three months, since fortunately it's just husband and me.
But, as they say where I come from:
If there was fish up our arses, we wouldn't need lakes or ponds!
Not another lockdown.

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2024 13:12

My Christmas order just arrived so we would have food from that for at least a week. Other food another few days and cupboard staples (pasta, pasta sauce, tinned tuna) about another week. As long as the power stays on!
My son however only a couple days as he is coming tomorrow so has minimal food in his house and not much storage for dry goods.
