Anyone else mind-numbingly bored?

Saturday nights in your 40s are so often shit aren't they?

Last night DH went for a couple of pints then came home and watched the darts.

I came out to my studio to practice my drums.

Today he went for a couple of pints and came home to watch the boxing.

I came out to my studio to practice my drums.

The kids are teens and happy in their own rooms. I don't really have friends who like going out for a few drinks, or they don't live close.

I'll have no nights out over Christmas to look forward to.

Anyone else completely fucking bored of the routine?

I’m in my 20s (well, just about..) and have the same problem. And I don’t even have a DH to keep me company!

Allthehorsesintheworld · 21/12/2024 20:46

Try being a pensioner! I think “ died from boredom” might be written on my death certificate.

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 21/12/2024 20:50

Maybe you could ask your husband to take you out, or go to an event together.

Or could you make a NY resolution to take up a class or try a new hobby that gets you out of the house once or twice a week.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 21/12/2024 20:57

Oh I have hobbies @HornyHornersPinkyWinky but sometimes I just want to be 26 and have friends to go out with a get a bit sloppy drunk and not know quite where the night will take you, you know?

Now my kids are older I have to be 'present' but they're not massively interested in hanging out loads. I just feel like my weekends are...existing.

Join a local friends FB group or take up a new hobby to meet new people.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 21/12/2024 21:10

I have hobbies! I would like the occasional Saturday night not doing them and just going to the pub for a blether with a friend or two.

Why do people not just go out any more? It seems so difficult to get people to give up their precious sitting on the couch time since Covid.

Yes! I love reading. I run every day, also go out for a walk on weekend days, I also belong to a sports’ team and do that two or three times per week. I also go swimming once a week. I also like cooking and work full-time. DH has a few glasses of wine and falls asleep on the sofa and I feel as if I die of boredom until bedtime. Too cold and dark to feel like going out for a walk (and wind and rain tonight). Sometimes we go out to concerts and cinema but don’t have the money to do it more often.

Mashroom · 21/12/2024 21:16

It’s the last sat night before Christmas and I am doing school work because I worry too much 😞 so keeping busy but going to finish now until early jan

but yes/ nothing exciting happening here but we are safe and warm and together so trying to take solice in that

CalicoPusscat · 21/12/2024 21:22

Bit restless but lack of funds until January. It's an expensive time of year isn't it. Food, presents blah de blah

CalicoPusscat · 21/12/2024 21:24

Also getting very confused about which cards/presents I've sent. Think my senility is kicking in 😁

I've completely lost a present. No idea where I've put it.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 21/12/2024 21:27

Ooh that's just reminded me I have a present hidden in my wardrobe for DS that I'd forgotten about!

Throw a Christmas party at your house? Or plan for one next year… involve the teens… send the invites out mid November. Be proactive. I now book Xmas events every august - and the teens know they have to come… and actually they like once out. Hth

Upperroom · 21/12/2024 21:31

Maybe your kids would enjoy seeing you feel like 26 again!

itsmylife7 · 21/12/2024 21:37

Get your favourite boozy drink go in the kitchen and put youtube on.

Search for the songs of your " fun times" and dance away.

Helps if you've got a Bluetooth speaker.

Yep it's a nightmare isn't it - I thought bugger earlier as I thought I'd forgotten to send a card to friend's family then remembered I'd already sent it. I don't usually find Xmas this confusing!

unmemorableusername · 21/12/2024 21:55

I hear you.

I have some younger friends but they don't realise their freedom and only want to do day discos and be in bed by 9pm.

Friends my age are stuck in with DCs.

I'd go out every Saturday night if I had anyone to go with!

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 21/12/2024 21:57

Yep. C’est moi.

I feel this. You need some local mates in the same situation. I had two until last year when they moved away.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 21/12/2024 22:05

That would be nice @AspirationalTallskinnylatte but I just don't. Trying my best through my hobbies but it's mostly ended up making online friends. Which is quite nice but sometimes you want to crack a bottle of wine with someone you know?

Go out together. Plan fun things with your teens.

RedRock41 · 21/12/2024 22:15

No. Don’t feel bored. Opposite problem of too hectic a week so going nowhere doing nothing with no-one wanting me for something ideally with a great book is heaven. We all different though. If you needing to shake off the cobwebs go for it. My Mum fair play learned to dance, swim and do all sorts when she hit 50. You need to find your life so come the New Year, fill in the missing gaps. Awesome you play drums too… maybe a band needing you!? 🥰

Doggymummar · 21/12/2024 22:18

Yeah, I've been off work a week and just sat on the sofa watching movies. I went to the freezer in the garage today and it was the first time out the house since last Thursday 😞

Clingfilm · 21/12/2024 22:20

Where do you live? You might be round the corner from one of us! I'd go out with you.
Mumsnet needs a 'friend date' section.
