Did you know, meet or see anyone perform before they were famous?

Another Level performed at my school before they made it and I remember Roxy from Eastenders being part of the support act for a Steps concert c2000

Jimmy Carr at a comedy club he was decimated by hecklers.

Did he handle it well?

Peter Capaldi filmed a short film at the hotel I was working at in early 2000's. He was the name in the film (I think he had been in Corrie by then) but way before doctor who.

I saw Ed Sheeran playing first on the bill in a pub. His parents were there watching.I was there to watch my friends band who were on later.

My husband's youngest cousin went on a Raleigh International expedition to South America. He came back with frostbite on his toes. My MiL, his auntie made him pull off his sock and show her. It was a bit awkward.

Guess who was on his Raleigh International expedition ... (hint: 'She was lovely')

It’s not meant to be a guess who. Also you’ve given zero clues as to who it could be. I’m guessing it’s Kate Middleton because I know she did a gap yah before uni and google tells me it was to South America but it’s not thanks to that pretty rubbish description.

I used to go to an under 18's night at a local club and remember seeing Atomic Kitten, 911, Another Level and a few others. Also remember seeing Caprice the model when she tried having a music career 😂 I've still got all their flyers somewhere! Queued ages to get the 911 one signed by Ben!

Huh? There was nobody in 911 called Ben!

I think she means A1!

Paddy McGuinness went out with my mate mid 90's. Used to go out a lot and he stayed at our house

Aha!

My school, in the time I was there, produced a fairly successful actress, a reasonably famous indie band and a Big Brother contestant.

As someone said above, it's not a guest who so you can tell us who. There's no point otherwise.

My DH used to be in a band at college with Richard from the Feeling, who's now married to Sophie Ellis better.

Not quite a “before they were famous” but I saw Coldplay at The Corn Exchange in Edinburgh when they were on the cusp of megastardom
Lewis Capaldi used to do open Mic at my cousin’s music shop
My other cousin used to “do the clubs” with Susan Boyle
I lived with Susie Wolff for a year during uni.

Nettleteaser101 · 21/12/2024 08:48

Used to go to a youthclub in the early 70s in South London and Hot Chocolate used to practice there. They were really nice. Then they were on Top of the Pops and never saw them again.

Emiliana52 · 21/12/2024 08:54

Around 1997/8 I think, I went with a friend to UCL and saw Coldplay at their student union.

teenangst5 · 21/12/2024 08:59

Went to secondary school with Olivia Colman (then Sarah). Not changed in the slightest.

MissyB1 · 21/12/2024 09:10

Carol Ann Duffy the poet grew up around the corner from me. Her family all went to the same church as us, my brothers hung around with hers.

I had a curry with Lloyd Cole and the commotions after they had played a gig at our local students union bar. I had helped set up and take down the stage.

Years ago I went with a group of mum friends to a comedy club in Liverpool. The audience was us and a group of blokes on a work outing from Walker's crisps. The act were all unkown comedians and the last on was John Bishop. His set was pretty funny but he soon dropped it and spent the rest of his spot interacting with us. It was absolutely hilarious and totally off the cuff. A naturally gifted comic.

Hozier cut the grass in the place I worked a few times. His aunt was my manager. Nice guy very shy.

cushionfiend · 21/12/2024 09:35

Paloma Faith - she was lovely, funny, genuine and quirky back then and clearly still seems to be now. I'm so pleased to see her success.

hazelnutlatte · 21/12/2024 09:38

I saw Take That at the St Helens show in about 1992 when no one had ever heard of them. I think PJ and Duncan were the headliners but that might have been the following year.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 21/12/2024 09:49

John Sykes before he was famous. Used to drink with him in local gig venue.

slightlydistrac · 21/12/2024 09:57

I once met a man with a ginger cat on his shoulder in Covent Garden.

Yes, it was Street Cat Bob and his human James Bowen. Didn't realise until years later when MIL lent me the book.

They came to a local nightclub c.1990/91 and Jason Orange snogged my mate !

My sister saw Black Sabbath at a small club next to the River Trent in Nottingham, late 60s. Also Led Zepp.

That would be The Boat Club or the Brit. Loads of upcoming bands/artists used to play there then, Rod Stewart, Chris Farlow, Amen Corner, Elton John etc and later on Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Led Zepplin.

The Boat actually became the richest boat club in UK off the back of using the club as a music venue.
