Bit sick of recycling piling up in the house

soupfiend · 20/12/2024 14:03

The house is filled with cardboard, theres some in the conservatory, some in the utility room and then a big pile in the hallway on the side table meaning I cant reach the side lamp and everything keeps tumbling and slipping off (because the card isnt dead square) creating a mess

It stresses me out quite honestly

The 'cardboard bag' is full and doesnt get emptied very frequently so I have to hoard this stuff inside and its really annoying.

Then we have two little bins in the kitchen to put other recycling into which get taken out to the big bin from time to time, I just feel like Im living surrounded by rubbish

Take it all to a recycling point?

Zonder · 20/12/2024 14:04

What will the council take in the regular bin collections?

Xag · 20/12/2024 14:04

Are there recycling bins in your supermarket carpark or somewhere else local?

Bjorkdidit · 20/12/2024 14:05

A 'cardboard bag' that doesn't get emptied very often sounds very limiting, especially at this time of year. We have two full sized green bins for our recycling and these are nearly full when emptied once a fortnight (we could reduce the volume by cutting and squashing but don't need to).

Are you able to take it to the tip?

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 20/12/2024 14:06

Pick 1 big box and break down all the rest to fit inside it

Bunkbedbunk · 20/12/2024 14:06

Or Just put it in your regular bin

ThatsNotMyTeen · 20/12/2024 14:07

Can you take it to the dump? Or find a man with van who will do so

stealthninjamum · 20/12/2024 14:07

Is this always the case or is it just this time of year? I often put my recycling in the car and if I’m going past the tip take it there. Of course nowadays you need to book an appointment the day before but my point is could you just leave it in the boot temporarily just to tidy the house?

Upstartled · 20/12/2024 14:07

This time of year is ridiculous for cardboard recycling in this house. Lots of online deliveries and it starts to build up quick. I'll probably just put the recycling box overflow into the shed until I can get down to the tip.

Freakysneaky · 20/12/2024 14:08

Who empties the cardboard bag, and where does it go?
Are you able to get out of your home? Wondering about disability.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 20/12/2024 14:08

Maybe stop buying crap?

PastaAndProse · 20/12/2024 14:09

Cut it into smaller pieces and store by your outside bins? That's what we do, then do a monthly (or so) tip run.

mynameiscalypso · 20/12/2024 14:11

We have an garage full of cardboard boxes. We take them to the bins regularly but it's a lot of effort because you have to break them all up and crush them. I just lock the door and pretend they don't exist.

123456abcdef · 20/12/2024 14:11

Can you order another cardboard bag? In my council you can have as many bags for recycling as you like. Or I can flat pack excess cardboard and tie with string and leave out with bag.

Yes we do sometimes but it means driving round to find one that has space in it, often they're full and overspilling and then we drive back with the same stuff!!

And we only really have time at weekends to do that anyway

Only at weekends due to work and then you have to be able ot make sure theres a slot free around other things we're doing. Couldnt do it last weekend for that reason

I must admit I find the amount of rubbish I generate astounding.

I think I am going to get a can crusher from amazon. They are worth about 80p a kilo currently.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/12/2024 14:29

Where do you live? That sounds hard.

we get our cardboard collected weekly (and paper, glass, plastic/cans and food waste) and can put out as many bags as we like as long as it’s in separated into the appropriate council ones.

Then we have 3 weekly black bag collections and can put out 3 bags.

HPandthelastwish · 20/12/2024 14:40

Do you have children? If they are good quality pieces then making cardboard automatons is a good project to use them up, you shouldn't need anything else other than scissors , glue, tape and skewers for turning things.

I don't understand this. What council bins do you have? Isn't there a recycling bin outside your house that gets collected that you can put cardboard in?

Interesting we dont have a lot of cans apart from pet food cans

Lots of jars from things like beans or olives and things and you cant condense that down

Its more the cardboard because even when we stamp it down, its big and cumbersome and we cant store it outside

I think I said in my OP we have a cardboard bag. The bag is full. Its very small.

We have a recycling bin for cans, glass and pastic, that is fine.

cestlavielife · 20/12/2024 17:24

Call your council pay for an extra collection or pay a clearaway type rubbish company like clearabee etc
It is within your power to do something about this

It wasn't clear what that cardboard bag was. So this is all you're allowed to leave out for the council? We have a big wheelie bin for all our recycling and it's never full so one bag for cardboard doesn't seem much.
