I can’t work out whether the real issue with other MNs is the shop bought cheesecake and ready prepared roast potatoes or the fact that OP had a £ school meals voucher
What is really upsetting MNs here

Maybe both . Regardless it does not really matter. It was spend on food which the kids will eat 🤷‍♀️

No ones taking the piss out of you. You was happy all the time you were posting judgemental things directed at me . No one had taken the piss been nasty to you in anyway shape or form.

You did not get the joke that's fine. You could have simply said . I think i misunderstood the joke. And leave it at that. I would have simply replied that's fine MN can be confusing

You said in an earlier comment before I made a comment in the first place that you can’t buy lunches for your children. and when I replied I can’t believe it, you started making more jokes taking the piss out of me. And I took that literally because it’s hard for me to detect jokes. If you can’t buy lunches for your children because you’ve spent a £100 on shite, I will judge you and so would the vast majority of reasonable people.

Freeasabird76 · 20/12/2024 13:59

£1.95 off, really good considering I don't regularly shop in Tesco.

My asda order is coming tomorrow and it's mostly lots of cheese and crackers and some own brand pops as that's our meal choice and snacks at home over Christmas,I nearly died when I saw total of £187,it was £250 first but I pared it right back.

Overdrawn at Christmas, joy!!! So glad I don't drink or smoke,as couldn't afford to anyway.

You can't have it both ways . You can't post judgemental stuff to me and not expect a reply. Then also say and I will judge you . Then tell me I'm taking the piss out of you . I simply replied . To your judgement. Which you have comfirmed you will be judgemental on this very post .

If you find it hard to detect jokes, perhaps you shouldn't be posting judgemental comments on Mumsnet. Anyone on the receiving end of such a judgemental comment is likely to take the piss, and is well within their rights to.

What you actually posted was this:

"I can’t believe that you have used money intended to pay for lunches for your children for Christmas dinner"

The Christmas dinner is quite clearly for her children as well, so she is using the money to buy food for her children... Which is what the money is for!

I think the problem is that the OP is apparently complaining that the items she bought were expensive, but without any context about why she chose the things she did.

No. I was just thinking that same shop would have been so much less a while ago compared to that same shop now . Its not about the items as such. Its the cost in general.

I do believe that one issue that adds to the price is VAT on chocolate and sugar. It was brought in to try and bully people into cutting down. Does not work of course. If you are trying to keep it together, love and care for your kids, particularly those with disabilities you absolutely deserve treats. Before anyone jumps in about loving them by feeding them healthy stuff, I am sure the op does this 51 weeks a year.

I don't drink either . I have done similar just got some own brand soft drinks for me and the kids and the older ones wanted some alcohol which they have paid for. It's definitely much more expensive than it used to be . And probably only get worse.

The goat i bought for the fresh goats milk kept chewing them 😭

OMG @I4gotmyname - you should have run this past the Mumsnet collective!!

They'd have told you to get a sheep instead. The milk is much less pungent than goats milk..... Makes delicious yoghurt too....... (to go with the honey your bees produce, naturellement...).

Not to mention the succulent lamb meat in the spring if you plan ahead and bring in a ram to DTD 😎

Can people drink sheep milk ? Could knit a couple of jumpers to. Maybe i can step up and be a better parent after all. I'm quite pleased, milk , jumpers and meat

I can’t believe that you have used money intended to pay for lunches for your children for Christmas dinner

The money is to reflect the additional cost of feeding children during the holidays, she’s using it to feed her kids over the holidays.

Ok I must have misunderstood I didn’t mean to come across as nasty originally but once I felt attacked I got quite defensive but that’s just arguing for the sake of arguing so I apologise for that.
In an earlier comment the OP essentially said that she couldn’t afford to feed her kids lunches because she’d spent too much on the Christmas shop - but I didn’t realise that was a joke hence my comment about my disbelief and other comments about suggesting a cheaper way of doing things.

@catphone I have had lots of judgement and assumptions on this thread. And I would reply to them comments mainly sarcastically. But as i said earlier it's not always easy to follow a thread. And it only takes something to be missed maybe a quote or a reply and the post could be misunderstood. 💐

Goats are so much more friendly and funny though
Plus they don’t need shearing which costs a lot of money 😁

Im not discussing bringing in Mr Goat for babies as I don’t eat animals, just sticking with the milk, cheese, yoghurt and friendliness

OP, they’re also really good to take for a walk 😁

You’d need a lot of sheep, a spinning wheel and some way to remove the flammable oil from the wool. Burning down the road is not a good look.

Oh yes. London would be great for a walk. They are intelligent animals and would have so much to see and anything goes in London….no one would even notice 🤣🤣
If you do go for sheep there are some great barbers on Green lanes near Seven Sisters tube. They’ll even do those tread lines 🤣
🐐🐑🦒
I’ve included a giraffe too. As you’re in London they’re great for seeing above the crowd
