What is the best thing you have bought for yourself this Christmas.

Also what present are you most excited to give.
Mine is a zip up fur cardigan. I love it so much I have bought a second one, even though it will probably be cheaper in the sales.

My best present Is for my lovely DiL. It is 3 photo blocks photographs of her children which she admired. I asked her if she would like some copies and she said yes. She has probably forgotten. I have added another one of her dad with the eldest. Chatting away like he is 70 rather than his grandad. I often go out with her dad who was left a widower recently and this was taken in a cafe unbeknown to them.

@Lillixyng sorry about your fall, wishing you a speedy recovery, you take care x

We're taking the kids to Orlando next year. So excited to reveal this on Christmas Day. We booked it months ago, I've nearly spilled my guts so many times! It's our first time going with the kids and I just can't wait to see their faces.

My mum loves crosswords but has bad eyesight close up and often complains the ones in the paper are too small.. way back in September I found a large print crossword book in Home Bargains of all places and I’ve sent that down to her..

Best for myself? I bought a bottle of port to serve after Christmas dinner, and a jigsaw puzzle to do over new years when I can spread it over the table!

Oooh I’m most excited to receive a perfume I chose. It’s a lovely spicy, warm vanilla. Perfect for winter.

I’m really excited to give DH some trainers he’s been admiring for a year but couldn’t afford as they are not necessarily “needed”.

I'd love the name of this perfume please, it sounds exactly my sort of thing!

Tinytigertail · 19/12/2024 22:45

I've bought myself a trip to the dentist for a tooth whitening treatment. For others, my travel made daughter is going to love her Osprey rucksack

My 3 year old has asked for 2 specific types of teddy. I'm quite excited for Santa give her them. But I think I'm more excited about the reindeer food (and carrot!!!) and stocking hanging the day before - she's been very much looking forward to leave a carrot out.

I haven't bought myself anything, don't need anything that I can justify buying.

Sadly, last year I got Christmas money, lost my dog unexpectedly and spent my Christmas money on getting his ashes home.

Curtain rail and thermal curtains for me - it is lovely and cosy here. Airtags for my daughter who travels a lot for work.

Ahhh thank you so much!!! We’re not well off so we always have to think of other things to “bring the magic” and give him a special childhood!! I really hope he loves it!!!

I really think that thoughtful things like this bring the magic far more than a pile of stuff.

My dc1's favourite thing about last Christmas was when his elf brought a wee pile of pokemon cards I bought on Ebay for £1 and a note asking him if he wanted to trade any. I can not decide whether to do it again or if it is too soon!

Update. So today I went up to London to collect by jacket. Coming out of the station near home I tripped and smacked my face on the pavement. Blood everywhere passers buy stopping to help. Someone called an ambulance, fortunately I was able to speak to them and tell them it was not needed. Hit my face not my head and foreheads always bleed profusely. Now had to cancel today’s hair appointment.

The icing on the cake, they have given me the wrong colour jacket.

Oh no! Sending unmumsnetty hugs. That really is rubbish!

I have got my mum a book about the history of cities through maps - bit niche but I know she will love it.
this thread has reminded me I need to get something for me - I have a very small family and am divorced but go all out for Christmas so the kids get upset if I don’t have some things to open.

Mossstitch · 20/12/2024 00:08

@Randomname83738 you've brought back lovely memories, was one of my youngest favourite things, he was always after swords and pirate toys like the eyepatch from the equivalent of the pound shop (he's 30 years older than your ds😆)! When yours is a bit older he may like the lego Treasure Island, perhaps next year, it has pirates, a little boat and shark, not a complicated set to make, meant for younger age group, mine played for hours with that😍

Hope your better soon @Lillixyng and enjoy your xmas☃️

Snugglemonkey · 20/12/2024 00:16

Thanks to another thread here, I bought myself a pair of turtledove gloves. I am delighted with them. Though I am now eying up a book embosser as a result of this thread!

For others, I am most excited about a first edition of a book that my friend and I read at the same time as students (skint, so actually shared the one second hand copy). We still love it. She will be thrilled and although it is the most expensive book I have ever bought, I saw it and it was not at all as expensive as I imagined it might be, so I absolutely to buy it. Excited to see her face!

I just love going the stockings even though my kids are in their twenties!

Ive not bought anything for myself, is that a thing?

Deluxe top of the range lemsip, cough medicine and ibuprofen! Heck of a virus with so much coughing it's been so painful and made my chest and ribs hurt. Is this a national thing? X

Could be a chest infection. Sounds just like how mine started. Take very good care, don't underestimate it, and get yourself to the GP if it doesn't go away after a couple day's solid rest. I hope you're better soon!

Ii only discovered ‘it’s a thing’ by accident. I do seem to have unearthed or started a trend.

I just need to find out how to make churros

You can buy packs of the dough mix too 🙂 It's all on Amazon!

PortiasBiscuit · 20/12/2024 06:26

Brand new cage for my darling rats, who keep escaping from their current cage.
it arrives today, very excited!

Lampzade · 20/12/2024 06:26

Walking pad
Love It.
It is cold outside so I can’t do my usual walks. The walking pad has been a lifesaver

My ‘kids’ are in their early twenties and have asked for a stocking. They look forward to it

for my daughter - she has a particular soft toy she just loves, writes stories about, he goes everywhere with her. He’s nothing special to look at, just a small soft toy that fits in the palm of a hand. Well worn and loved! I got a photo book made of this toy going on a quest around our town to find a new friend ( a baby soft toy dragon), it’s a tiny book just child hand sized. I went all over town and took photos of the toy, even in the sweet shop (where the lady who runs it got totally on board and even found me a mini candy cane for him to hold!). In the end he finds his new friend on a doorstep and that’s the final photo in the book. She’ll open the book first and then the new friend!

Oh my goodness, this is adorable! I think you may have just created a family heirloom which will get passed down to her children in 25 years!!! How old is your daughter?

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 20/12/2024 06:37

Most excited to give: my daughter loves Jellycat rabbits (she’s 12), and is probably expecting a small one. What she doesn’t know is that she has the small one and his giant size brother! She would never have asked for him , because they are so outrageously expensive. 😍😍

Most exciting thing for me - an eBay dupe of the Cos padded dumpling bag. (Still want the real one though!)

Ahh this sounds amazing thank you!! I was looking at Lego this year but wasn’t sure he had the fine motor skills for it (he’s a young 3) - this sounds like it could be perfect for next christnas or his birthday!!
