Also what present are you most excited to give.
Mine is a zip up fur cardigan. I love it so much I have bought a second one, even though it will probably be cheaper in the sales.

My best present Is for my lovely DiL. It is 3 photo blocks photographs of her children which she admired. I asked her if she would like some copies and she said yes. She has probably forgotten. I have added another one of her dad with the eldest. Chatting away like he is 70 rather than his grandad. I often go out with her dad who was left a widower recently and this was taken in a cafe unbeknown to them.

Most looking forward to giving - a JD carrier bag to DS(16) 😂.

He has driven me scatty for weeks moaning that the string on his old one broke and this is the only acceptable method of carrying one's PE kit to school. He made a stand this morning after refusing all my suggested alternatives and took a Tesco carrier bag. So I went into town and paid 20p for a nice shiny new JD one that I have wrapped up for Xmas.

He will absolute howl laughing and totally appreciate the sentiment!!

I've bought myself a new bike..... 🚲

😂is it yellow? I stopped at a zebra crossing yesterday afternoon near our local secondary school and about 8 lads traipsed across and they all had yellow JD carrier bags with the long strings.

ButterCrackers · 19/12/2024 16:16

Wool and a packet of crochet hooks.

khaitai · 19/12/2024 16:57

I do a secret santa each year with my friends and we all write a list of suggestions for the secret Santa to pick from. I'm secret Santa for a friend who's had a terrible year and, rather than picking one, I've gone way over budget and bought really nice versions of everything on her list. I hope she won't be embarrassed but I think she deserves it.

Lovely thread. They haven’t arrived yet but I’m looking forward to giving my kids two packs of make-a-fort. They love building dens and this will also give me a break from making blanket dens that collapse within 5 minutes! I haven’t gifted myself anything but tbh my gift will be seeing my kids happy. I’ve had some tough times this year and have learned to just appreciate the small things.

I'm a bit puzzled that you're all buying yourself gifts.
Loving the pirate presents!!!

DH and I always used to think up presents for each other, which then progressed to giving each other ideas and now we each just buy our own 😅

All of our money is household funds and neither of us are much into 'things' so they're really only token things anyway so we have something to open in front of the DC.

ShiftySquirrel · 19/12/2024 17:18

I've bought myself some nail varnishes. I finally mastered painting my nails and it lasting longer than 10 minutes before chipping - so I'm delighted and have ordered some more colours.

MsXmasGGMasterTwat · 19/12/2024 17:28

@ShiftySquirrel that's really lovely, I would love to get back into painting my nails. I did quite a good job during COVID but it has all fallen apart since.

Femalefootyfan · 19/12/2024 17:39

For myself, I bought a notebook to keep as a diary to help my mental health as it’s taken a bit of dive over the last couple of weeks. I also bought two gorgeous Prosecco glasses from Oliver Bonas costing more than I would usually spend on glassware.

For my DH, a new guitar that has been delivered to DD’s where we’re spending Xmas day, so as not to give away the surprise.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 19/12/2024 17:49

A facial treatment for me on the 23rd. I can't wait!

I've bought DS a Bullseye t-shirt for his stocking that I saw last week in Tesco. We got into watching old episodes of Bullseye on Challenge after dinner and he thinks it's hilarious. He's going to love it!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/12/2024 17:50

Best one I’m giving is a blown up, framed photo - it was an exceptionally beautiful, but non-posed one, of Gdd1 in a field full of wild flowers.

I haven’t bought anything for myself except some cherry liqueur chocolates - and I’ve eaten them!

FrangipaniBlue · 19/12/2024 17:56

Argh @Lillixyng what a mare!!

Hope you get a swap sorted and aren't too sore

FrangipaniBlue · 19/12/2024 17:57

@FrenchandSaunders yep!!! You always know when it's PE day at DS school - hoards of teenage boys with yellow JD carrier bags 🤣🤣

Thank you. I was thinking about buying the green one and,at first, I thought I had made a mistake but I had ordered the black. I really like the green so I am going to keep it.

Besides which, DH has said enough is enough and I am to have him with me when I go shopping in future. He is an absolute Angel, this is the third time he has had a call to get me from the pavement.

So sorry about your fall @Lillixyng
but what a lovely thread.
i have got my dd a white sheep teddy to match the black sheep teddy she got on holiday the year before, I bought it back from Whitby in the summer and have held onto it since. I’m hoping she loves that her sheep’s sister/cousin/friend has come to stay.
For me, I’ve got a lovely fluffy dressing gown. I’ve had my old one for over 10 years but quite honestly I’m fatter than when I bought it, so it will be nice to have one that I can really snuggle in.

It’s Penhaligon’s Babylon. It’s absolutely gorgeous (I have a tiny sample).

Any tips? Shelac seriously damaged my nails so I just go bare which is rubbish

Never heard of buying yourself presents tho

Why shouldn't people buy things for themselves? Do we not deserve nice things? I always buy myself a birthday and Christmas present and will do until the end of my days.

IWanderedLonely · 19/12/2024 20:46

I've bought myself a 2025 almanac, I love reading it every month.
I've bought my DH a display case for his model cars; he had them in an IKEA one until we redecorated when they were dumped in a box in the spare room. They were all gifts over the years from my mum, who he adored and she died last month, so we'll both enjoy having them back.

BellissimoGecko · 19/12/2024 21:09

Randomname83738 · 18/12/2024 09:17

I’ve found tickets for a really obscure band my DH likes (they were his most played on spotify last year) and I don’t think he knows they’re doing a couple of UK dates so will be a big surprise.

its one of his smaller presents, but my DS (3) is really into pirates and talks about telescopes ALL THE TIME. Regularly pretending loo roll tubes are telescopes. He got a plastic one in his advent calendar he LOVED but lost almost immediately. I’ve got him a little gold expanding telescope that comes in a wooden box. Was only £7 or so but looks the real deal. We’ve got him some other piratey bits (a box of treasure, a treasure map) and I’ve got him some clues so I’m going to lay out a little treasure trail for him with a pirate thing and a clue at each “stop”, and the box of treasure at the end. It doesn’t exactly scream Christmas but I think he’ll love it! We’ve also got him a second hand wooden pirate ship and castle with Papo figures and which I think he’ll love.

Playmobil do some fab pirate sets too...

Will def buy myself something nice now and again. Just not really come across buying your own presents before. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you yes a black eye, sore knees and lost my dignity. I am such a fool, I use a stick for balance but bought more shopping than I meant to. Sadly last time I do independent shopping as. DH quite rightly concerned.

People are so kind, unfortunately a man insisted on calling an ambulance. I was sitting on the floor asking to talk to them to stop it, while hardly able to think straight. He meant well, I think it was the blood.

Shifty Squirrel, what colours of nail varnish did you get? I just bought Glaston-berry. It’s very bright red.
