Barring disasters (like the main oven conking out - thank you Christmas 2006)
what time do you aim for?

It's usually 2pm for us.

Usually after 3, by 4pm.

CapitanSandy · 16/12/2024 10:11

1pm

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 16/12/2024 10:11

We have ours in the evening at about 6.30.
We have soup and a baguette or roll for lunch.
It works better for us, as we are all really hungry by then.

CandiedPrincess · 16/12/2024 10:13

3pm/4pm but generally when it's ready, it's ready. I enjoy cooking Christmas dinner but not to a schedule. So will stop/slow down to play, say hi to visitors. We have a brunch around 11am.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 16/12/2024 10:22

2.30pm - 3.00pm. We have an early Christmas breakfast (a tradition in the family) and no nibbling or treats till after the main meal, as nothing worse than someone not being hungry (and we don't go mad, but do make an effort with the lunch). Then if anyone is hungry later, cold meat, pickles, leftovers to pick at.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 16/12/2024 10:23

3pm for us with the King's speech in the background.

EvilNextDoor · 16/12/2024 10:24

Whenever it’s ready

I generally ask the kids and my husband what time they want to eat and I aim for that time it’s normally around 1ish

Since Covid we have Christmas at home with no visitors so it’s a completely relaxed day we can eat at 1pm or 6pm it doesn’t matter

RuthW · 16/12/2024 10:33

12.30

DappledThings · 16/12/2024 10:37

Any time that suits. It moves around depending on who is hosting and how old the children are. Anywhere between about 1 and 5.30

PomandersandRedRibbon · 16/12/2024 11:28

When it's dark, candles, light twinkle

SharpOpalNewt · 16/12/2024 11:30

About 2pm usually. Never had it earlier than 1.30pm anyway, no matter who was hosting. I never even knew there was a Queen's speech for years as we were always still at the table. Or asleep 😆

AnnieMay2000 · 16/12/2024 11:31

Between 4pm and 5pm.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 16/12/2024 11:33

3-4 ish. I do canapes about 11.30/12.

Eyesopenwideawake · 16/12/2024 11:34

Around 2 - horses and other various animals have to be fed at 4 so that means we can eat without rushing.

Maddy70 · 16/12/2024 11:34

When its ready. We go to the beach in the morning while the turkey is cooking

TeenToTwenties · 16/12/2024 11:35

1pm. Then washed up ready for the King's Speech. Then walk.

Rainyaprilmonday · 16/12/2024 11:37

We've always had it in the evening - 7-8 ish, after cocktails.
Lunch is a cold buffet style meal - I usually do a side of salmon, lots of cheese, sausage rolls, quiche, various salads at 1 ish.

WeregoingtoIbiza · 16/12/2024 11:37

Usually about 4pm but it's my turn to bring the horses in so might be more like 6pm this year.

Prisonpillow · 16/12/2024 11:39

3pm because I’m not serving two meals on Christmas Day. That way it covers lunch and dinner.

Marblesbackagain · 16/12/2024 11:40

7-8 ish. I couldn't eat a dinner earlier. Usually have a brunch and nibbles and then a lovely relaxing meal in the evening followed by a Xmas movie and a few cocktails, or mock ones.

I don't do two meals either.
Lunch at 1, (planned) leftovers in evening for anyone who wants.

GameOfJones · 16/12/2024 11:46

Around 1pm. We like to have it earlier then can get out for a walk afterwards while there is still some light. Then the main work is done and the afternoon and evening are free for games, chilling out, drinking and party food!

Londonmummy66 · 16/12/2024 11:52

4pm - turkey out and spuds in before the King's Speech. House presents (ie from those who are actually here) after that and then dinner.

rightoguvnor · 16/12/2024 11:53

Usually around about 3pm - continental breakfast, snacky bits about 11.30-12 with aperitifs ,then dinner. Cheese and crackers and snacks bits about 9pm.
This year we're a bit tired and feeling self-indulgent (and having no small children around), just yesterday we were debating the idea of a full English breakfast and holding back dinner till 6ish. That feels very daring for us.
