What time is your Christmas dinner?

Barring disasters (like the main oven conking out - thank you Christmas 2006)
what time do you aim for?

It's usually 2pm for us.

About 6pm.

Matilda1981 · 17/12/2024 19:23

4pm ish for us - nice breakfast around 10am and then do some nibbles from about 2pm then straight into mains at 4, works for us as we have family coming so those with children don’t have to rush over and their kids can play with the toys they’ve got that day and anyone travelling an hour or so doesn’t have to set off too early

Andoutcomethewolves · 17/12/2024 19:31

Around 3. We have a relatively big breakfast (either smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels or bacon sandwiches usually) then don't really snack until the main event, other than maybe a few chocolates etc. In the evening we have some snacky party food/buffet/charcuterie type stuff.

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/12/2024 19:33

Sometime between "dark enough for the candles to be lit" and "Dr Who". It's only us and the (adult) DC so no stress about visitors.

RedPanda2022 · 17/12/2024 21:08

1-1.30ish

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/12/2024 21:19

4 to 5pm.

StarryPotter · 17/12/2024 21:22

Usually around 2pm.

I like it early-ish so I can go in for the turkey and stuffing sandwich later.

Fink · 17/12/2024 21:22

Around 3ish. Then cheese board in the evening. Present opening in between.

We go round to a friend's house for hors-d'œuvre in the late morning (after church).

The young kids tend to stick to normal mealtimes and just have a small amount when we sit down.

Falafelolive · 17/12/2024 21:25

4 or 5 suits us best. We are all adults so no rush to get up in the morning and have a leisurely breakfast and graze, so no need for food early.

Spaceid · 17/12/2024 21:27

Anywhere between 1500-2000, depending on what’s going on. Never before, we like to have a cosy morning opening presents, then a walk and maybe a drink in the pub. Back for the family to visit if they’re coming and then big slap up dinner and games and drinks and cheese at midnight! I don’t like a set time table either, it’s ready when it’s ready.

How do people eat at 1200? There’s barely any time to play with the presents!! What time do you start cooking?!

pizzaHeart · 17/12/2024 21:27

Aiming for 2 pm
but usually closer to 3 pm

FluffBut · 17/12/2024 21:34

2:30pm for the starters, main course after the Kings Speech, dessert, and then anything goes in the evening, help yourself, cold turkey sandwich, sausage rolls, crisps, cheeseboard, chocolates.

caringcarer · 17/12/2024 21:47

About 1.15-1.30 start.

helloisitmeyourelookingfor · 17/12/2024 22:03

When we can be bothered making it on the day

I don't run to a schedule-it stresses me out

OMGitsnotgood · 17/12/2024 22:04

3is for dinner. Long break before the pudding

HunterHearstHelmsley · 17/12/2024 22:06

Somewhere between 1pm and 2pm. Could possibly be pushed back to 3ish if breakfast was late.

Anything later would ruin the evening leftover feast.

ProvincialLady24 · 17/12/2024 22:08

5ish. We potter about cooking all day, rather than slaving away in the kitchen.
We have a light early lunch of homemade sausage rolls, smoked salmon pate and sourdough.
Christmas pudding around 8pm.

DeathMetalMum · 17/12/2024 22:10

After 4 usually around 5ish. We go out to visit my dad late morning and any other family who are there so that's the earliest we can have it. I make bacon bagels around 10am ish. Dp sorts out the rest of Christmas dinner. We just snack in between, we had croissants last year and dc have sweets from their stockings.

NotVeryFunny · 17/12/2024 23:26

AnnieMay2000 · 16/12/2024 11:31

Between 4pm and 5pm.

Same.

9/10pm

Eating massive amounts at lunchtime makes me feel a bit disgusted

TheNewElite · 17/12/2024 23:39

Christmas lunch is always served around 1pm. We serve it then and it’s always very leisurely affair.

the family have nibbles like cheeses and crackers, sausage rolls and fruit and nuts later on when we’re immersed in board games.

Onlyvisiting · 17/12/2024 23:51

6-7pm
Parents always have main meal in the evening, livestock to look after in the limited daylight hours.
I think I've had middle of the day Christmas maybe once in my entire life when we went to family.

Bu I have questions......
I understand having it at lunchtime (which is from 12.30-2.30 pm at the outside, as is right and proper) but WTF I with this 4pm neither one thing nor the other deal? Could you just not decide??
Do you have a lunch first and call it dinner? Have breakfast then wait 8 houts for the next meal? Eat Christmas Dinner then roll straight on through into the evening meal??
It's all just so wrong and deeply distressing to me 🤣

bert3400 · 17/12/2024 23:54

Between 5-6. We have brunch about 11am after several glasses of champagne 🥴😂

Tintackedsea · 17/12/2024 23:58

5ish. I'm not wasting precious daylight on cooking and eating. Stockings, breakfast, gifts, walk on the beach, bit of cooking, drink and chat, more cooking, eat, games.

I'm the opposite, I'd rather eat my main meal earlier (at lunchtime) rather than be overly full and have all that washing up to do before bed.
