Barring disasters (like the main oven conking out - thank you Christmas 2006)
what time do you aim for?

It's usually 2pm for us.

3.30-4.00 so we can have candles lit

DilemmaDelilah · 17/12/2024 17:50

@aliceinawonderland we have candles lit anyway! And to be quite honest the weather is usually so dreary we need the extra light. In the evening we have a light meal at the dining table with all the candles - it was my father's birthday on Christmas Day so tea time was his celebration.

CalicoPusscat · 17/12/2024 18:30

I'm with the people who say 3-4pm.

Generally the house is really warm with all the cooking going on and you snack until dinner is ready.

Parker231 · 17/12/2024 18:34

We have a cold buffet so have it whenever anyone can make the effort to put it out. Likely some point during the afternoon so we’re ready to go skiing in the evening.

Iliketulips · 17/12/2024 18:34

I'd like it to be 12.30ish as one day at work my lunch is approx 10.30am and the others approx 11.30/45, so I'd struggle to wait until afternoon. In reality we aim for 1pm, but usually 1.20pm(ish).

Doggymummar · 17/12/2024 18:43

Usually about 7pm. We aim for 6.30 but inevitably something is forgotten

Girasoli · 17/12/2024 18:45

Around 1pm. We call it Christmas lunch (pranzo di Natale)

I'd be starving if I waited till 3, and possible have a headache from too much prosecco while cooking!

DrunkenKoala · 17/12/2024 18:45

Between 12.30 and 1.
Like to be finished by the King's speech

aliceinawonderland · 17/12/2024 18:47

We go to midnight mass , so not usually in bed until 2.30

We have breakfast at 10.30-11.00 and then smoked salmon nibbles at around 2ish to keep the wolf from the door

I'm not sure I could eat anything that large at a normal lunch time!!

stargirl1701 · 17/12/2024 18:48

5pm.

AuntieStella · 17/12/2024 18:48

Lunchtime, probably starting between 13:00 - 13:30

DeanElderberry · 17/12/2024 18:51

kick-off at 5 - 5.30pm

I take it you're not in the UK 😁

I'm a complete slug Xmas day, can't imagine going skiing

UmopapIsdn · 17/12/2024 18:55

AuntieMarys · 17/12/2024 18:59

4-5. But never traditional

Topseyt123 · 17/12/2024 19:07

1pm booked in a local restaurant for us.

WalterdelaMare · 17/12/2024 19:08

I think we aim for 3, but it’s likely to be 4.

ABunchOfBadBitches · 17/12/2024 19:08

About 9pm. We’re Black so that should explain it really

sprigatito · 17/12/2024 19:09

About 4pm usually

NewName24 · 17/12/2024 19:11

1pm

CrispyK · 17/12/2024 19:12

Usually about 4 or 5.
I’d never eat a big meal in the middle of the day and don’t really understand why anyone wants to waste precious winter daylight hours sitting indoors eating.

IdaClair · 17/12/2024 19:20

4-5pm and lasts until 8-9pm in a kind of parade of various courses, wine, crackers, games, songs, quizzes, interspersed with clearing up and more wine, until it’s all done and the cheese is out, and then people start sloping off for a snooze and then there is music and games.

We don’t eat anything else on Christmas Day, it’s just the one big meal late on, just like on Sundays.

I’ve never watched royal speeches or any TV really on Christmas Day, tv doesn’t tend to feature (does on Christmas Eve and later in the week).

Copernicus321 · 17/12/2024 19:22

1pm - 1.30pm until 3.30 or 4.00pm. We listen to the King's speech at 3pm.
