If I like gin, will I like Aperol?

Someone told me it's an odd flavour but I've been given a bottle as a present and don't know where to crack it open or regift it.

Try an Aperol Spritz next time you're out. Then you'll know.

I love gin (not flavoured gin), and I love Aperol, but I don't like some of the other things PPs are mentioning as 'if you like this you'll like Aperol' drinks. I think you'll just need to try one.

Do you like orange marmalade? It's basically a drinkable alcoholic version.

Gin and aperol make a nice cocktail. With prosecco or tonic.

I was going to say it’s very sweet, so if the OP likes gin she might be better off with Campari.

Aperol isn’t sweet at all

it is quite marmite - Disney Epcot have a club cool where yuh can try drinks from other countries and the Beverley is based on aperol and around 70% hate and 30% love

Awful stuff. Was thoroughly disappointed when I tried it and despite paying expensive pub prices I couldn't force myself to drink it! Re-gift to someone you don't like!

There is an easy solution to this problem! Pop out to a bar, order an aperol spritz to see if you like it then you’ll know your next steps!

This is a really good idea. I like Aperol but it is an odd bitter taste. I also like Campari which is another one.

I like Navy Strength gin that's heavy on the Juniper (and lime), adore good Sloe or Damson gin (none of that Gordon's shite), including when mixed with bitter lemon and really, really like Aperol Spritz when there's a good slug of orange in it.

So I love a negroni and like aperol spritz on the more bitter side. I don’t think either are anything like a GandT and the relationship to gin based cocktails like a gin martini is even less

I like gin. Initially, I didn't enjoy Aperol Spritz. However, I then realised that the cheap ones are just Aperol & soda - not nice. You need to add white wine, and then it's lovely!

Aperol reminds me of Irn Bru.

I prefer it to both irn bru and gin.

Thankfully food choice questionnaires are dodgy science or I'd be checking myself into a secure unit!

As it is I prefer Campari to Aperol as it's not so sweet. I'm clearly a psychopath.

I like amaros too. Aperol is inoffensive as these things go - I'd far rather drink Campari - it doesn't taste like orange marmalade at all, it's vaguely orange flavoured. Main thing is that it triggers migraine for me so I don't touch it.
