My older cousin had quite a thing for Dirty Den in Eastenders. Which was quite worrying as she was only about fourteen at the time and Den was how old? Fifty?

David duchovney and a french Tottenham Hotspur player I forget the name of!

David Ginola?? Appeared on the L’Oréal “because I’m worth it “ ad”
My mums was Tom Selleck - surprised how few mentions he’s had
Great question OP

Freddie Mercury was the main one, but also Rod Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi, Richy Sambora, David Ginola and TV chef Jean Christoph Novelli.

I'm not sure which upset her most, Freddie being gay or Jon Bon Jovi shaving his chest hair when he was in Ally McBeal.

I think David Ginola did a coffee advert too, gold blend maybe? My mum had it stuck inside one of the kitchen cupboards, but not the same cupboard as Freddie.

My mother’s crushes were in the 60s. Mine in the 80s was Pål Waaktaar from A-ha.

Glad for pal. He was always in the shadow of the other two.

Freddie Mercury! She was shocked to learn later that he was gay!

TheDuchy27 · 15/12/2024 07:31

Andre Agassi and Glen Mederios🤣
This has made me smile and cheered me up. I had a little cry thinking about my lovely mum yesterday - 30 years since she died and I still miss her xx

mistification · 15/12/2024 07:47

David Essex...she would've been in her late 30s/early 40's then though.

As a young person myself in the late 80's it was Nick Kamen from the Levi's launderette advert 💓

Always28 · 15/12/2024 07:54

Kevin Costner was her major crush after watching Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves I think.

TriceratopsRocks · 15/12/2024 07:59

Paul Nicholas and Sean Bean. Definitely Sean Bean. And actually, still Sean Bean!

bugalugs45 · 15/12/2024 08:05

The gorgeous man who used to play chancer, black hair , green eyes , his name escapes me , but j in can definitely see where she was coming from 😂

bugalugs45 · 15/12/2024 08:06

Just googled - Clive Owen .
I still would 😝

Always28 · 15/12/2024 08:07

You can get a rough idea of the age of people’s mums by who their crushes were at that point 🤣

bigTillyMint · 15/12/2024 08:28

Spencer Tracey (he died in the 60s!), Cary Grant and various other B&W movie stars.
Tom Conti, James Bolam also got a mention.

User346897543 · 15/12/2024 08:46

My mum's were David Essex, Robert Powell and Richard chamberlain, mine were George Michael, Matt goss, Jason Donovan and Morten Harket

Bonjovispyjamas · 15/12/2024 08:54

Paul Young, she always called him kissy face 😯 While I was swooning over Tony Hadley.

Bruce Springsteen

Jellycatspyjamas · 15/12/2024 10:17

My mums were Inglebert Humperdink and Cliff Richard! Cliff was an enduring crush right up until she died - she had his calendar up in the kitchen every year.

Hoppinggreen · 15/12/2024 10:19

Freddie Mercury (she never believed the "rumours")

dontforgetme · 15/12/2024 10:22

John Taylor and Simon LeBon.
