dottyaboutstripes · 13/12/2024 22:58

Cliff Thorburn (snooker player)

lonelywater · 13/12/2024 22:59

more seventies than later, but it was pretty much an open secret in our house that had either Clark Gable or Mario Lanza showed up outside in a sports car she would have been off without so much as a backward glance.

mrlistersgelfbride · 13/12/2024 23:00

Cat Stevens, Phil Collins, Colin Firth.

Then when I starting looking Boybands as a teenager I remember her fancying all of Blue 😅

Alpolonia · 13/12/2024 22:52

Charles Dance and Robert Redford.

Great thread OP!

Yes, it's a great thread! I think my mum quite liked Charles Dance but he veered to closely into ginger territory to satisfy her blond fetish. She quite likes Jason Statham these days because, "You can tell that he was blond before he went bald." and she's quite recently converted to the ideal of the more muscular man whereas she preferred the more effete sorts when she was younger.

I think it's the idea of somebody being able to change a lightbulb without dislocating a limp wrist which hits hard in later years.

Mwnci123 · 13/12/2024 23:06

Richard Gere

iridescentsnowflake · 13/12/2024 23:07

Brad Pitt. We used to go and see his latest films together (and rewatch the old ones on video!)!

SkankingWombat · 13/12/2024 23:08

Ian McShane and Tom Selleck. 'Dishy'/'a bit of a dish' was also her descriptor of choice.

KnopkaPixie · 13/12/2024 23:11

Mwnci123 · 13/12/2024 23:06

Richard Gere

Nothing to do with this, I presume. My auntie was a quivering jelly on the floor.

My mum also used "dishy". It's a good one.

SparrowhawkSky · 13/12/2024 23:13

Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood. Both ‘dishy’!

Mwnci123 · 13/12/2024 23:13

@KnopkaPixie yes! And a scene in the same film where he's revving his motorbike suggestively.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 13/12/2024 23:21

Sam Elliott for my mum.

Neverendingdeclutter · 13/12/2024 23:26

My mum liked David Hasselhoff. She would have watched him in knightrider.

CountryManor · 13/12/2024 23:28

Julio Iglesias, Tony Orlando and Angry Anderson. 😆

betterangels · 13/12/2024 23:32

WellIthinkyouareallIdiots · 13/12/2024 22:33

Put it this way, I had to watch Labyrinth far too often and it was always my mums suggestion 😂😂😂

I love this! My mum watched The Thorn Birds a lot.

BigLicks · 13/12/2024 23:32

Tom Selleck

MintTwirl · 13/12/2024 23:33

I can’t believe nobody else has said George Clooney yet! My mum loved him in ER. Also Colin Firth and either Robson or Jerome when they were in soldier soldier.

Onceuponatime9 · 13/12/2024 23:36

I was in my 20s in the 80s & as far as I know my mother didn't show any crushes. I had many but remember David Essex & David Cassidy were amongst them

Scareofgettingthiswrong · 13/12/2024 23:36

Anonym00se · 13/12/2024 22:25

My Mum fancied Bob Geldof!

So did mine!!! We used to live in Faversham and got invited to a few of Peaches’ birthday parties. Mum always said he was “dishy” 😂😂

Sgtmajormummy · 13/12/2024 23:43

My mum (born 1932) had a thing for Nigel Havers in the 1980s, all fresh faced and aristocratic in A Horseman Riding By.
I last saw him as a decrepit victim of elder abuse in The Gentlemen.
Time marches on…

Chillilounger · 13/12/2024 23:45

And this is when I know I'm old.....My 'mother' ahem liked Colin salmon, Rufus Sewell and Keifer Sutherland...

DramaAlpaca · 13/12/2024 23:47

My 88 year old mum's crush was Steve McQueen of The Great Escape fame. She liked Robert Redford too.

This thread is making me feel very old as I've had crushes on one or two of those mentioned myself Grin

natwalesrug · 13/12/2024 23:51

David Essex
David Cassidy
George Michael
Rod Stewart.
Nial Rodgers

Snooks1971 · 13/12/2024 23:54

DHs mum memorably said that Dwayne Johnson has nice teeth. This was 20 years ago, looking back, massive The Rock crush
