Did you/he/she get down on one knee?

Was is romantic?

Was it in public or private?

Did you/they have the ring to hand?

Was it a surprise or did you/they suspect it?

Down on one knee. With a gorgeous ring, walking our little dog on one of our fave local beaches in October 2022.

I was post nights, in leggings, wellies and his hoodie.

Was a complete surprise, we had talked about it,

Got married 11 weeks ago :)

My dh proposed by accident lol.

He'd bought a ring and used one of my rings from my jewellery box to get the right size. But then was worried it looked too small. He had planned to ask me while we were on holiday but decided to try the ring on my finger while I was asleep. So he puts it on and it got stuck. So he had to wake me up lol!. Not the most romantic but definitely won't forget it lol

DecayingRelic · 10/12/2024 15:55

Never got a proposal or a ring!😁

Someone we knew had got married and we were taking about marriage and just decided we would do it too, so next day went to Register Office and booked the next available date which was 3 weeks later, just went on the day with 2 witnesses and did it and then went home

Married 35 years now, still never got a ring😆

Parker231 · 10/12/2024 16:00

No proposal. We had a discussion about our future together and decided to get married. Got married seven months later. No engagement ring (or wedding rings) - don’t like them. Happily married for 30 years.

Level75 · 10/12/2024 16:04

I proposed to DH on holiday. Just when hanging out, not a big deal. No ring.

ViciousCurrentBun · 10/12/2024 16:06

In the grounds of his great grandparents house, on one knee. We then travelled in to the nearest city and chose a ring. We didn’t tell anyone for three days. Married just over 25 years.

haretodaygonelater · 10/12/2024 16:12

He bought the game scrabble and on the board glued " will you marry me darling"

I opened it totally unexpectedly and was blown away

BigDahliaFan · 10/12/2024 16:15

I'd kind of made it clear I wanted us to get married, we were out for my birthday at a nice restaurant, just the two of us and he asked then. We then went and chose a ring at the weekend.

MsAnnThropy · 10/12/2024 16:35

I love hearing all of your stories, from the understated to the elaborate, they're all great.

DH proposed to me whilst on holiday. He told me afterwards he'd planned to do it at a specific landmark but I started moaning that I was too hot and needed a drink just as he was reaching for the ring so he waited until I was cool and hydrated 😂 I had no idea it was coming and was genuinely surprised when I turned to see him down on one knee. We've been married almost 7 years now.

I was crying in the middle of the night because he'd been really weird the last few days, and I'd convinced myself he was breaking up with me. He woke up, asked what was wrong, and then was thoroughly confused when I said that if he was going to end things, I'd rather he did it before our trip that weekend. He tried to comfort me, but I'd worked myself up into a right state and couldn't stop crying. The actual proposal went as follows:

Him: For fuck's sake woman, I've bought a ring!
Me: Oh.
Him: I was going to ask you while we were away.
Me: Oh.
Him: Well? Do you fancy it then? The surprise is buggered now.
Me: Yes please.

We've been married 15 years now, and it was the most us proposal that could have happened!

First time: dragged to the top of a hill after a gruelling fortnight of being in call as a junior doctor every other night. It was January and freezing. No bended knee no ring but I said yes.

Second time : on holiday eating a sausage casserole and talking about bay leaves. I said as he had the bay leaf he was lucky and he took that as his queue to talk about how he was very lucky and did I want to marry him? Again no bended knee and no ring but for him it was incredibly romantic.

I never got an engagement ring second time. We went looking but found really nice wedding rings and engagement ring would not have gone with it.
Still smitten 2.5 years later.

Dealingwithatrexrightnow · 10/12/2024 17:28

children brought it up (mine not his). Youngest said ‘when are you marrying mummy’ He said ‘I’d marry her tomorrow but I don’t think she wants to get remarried’. Later that evening I said ‘Let me think about it’ and a few days later said ok I want to be married but don’t want to do the wedding thing again and he said ok. We found a local history place we both like and I said tell me when and where and I will show up - I don’t want the planning thing. So he’s planned and booked it for the spring. He did go down on his knees one night when I was in the bath and asked to me marry him properly and I told him to get up that he looked ridiculous and he did.

Iliketulips · 10/12/2024 17:42

DH chickened out on the day itself. He left a cuddly toy and a CD with music to play on my doorstep and had planned to knock on my front door while the music was playing and propose (he hadn't walked me to the door as we lived in the same block of flats - I basically married the boy next door!).

We went to London the following weekend, after the above he had no idea where he was going to propose but knew he'd be doing it - we were actually walking past the crown jewels and he said I was more precious that any of them and proposed!

mondaytosunday · 10/12/2024 18:14

Have to say it was kinda disappointing. We were only weeks into our relationship and were watching the TV on his ugly rented sofa in his flat (his ex wife was still living in the marital home). I can't remember what we were talking about but he suddenly said 'but you will marry me won't you'? I think I was so taken aback I didn't say much other than a pathetic 'yes' but I remember thinking 'is this it'? I wasn't expecting him to ask but had always imagined when it ever did happen it would be something more special.
He told me later that he had planned a more romantic proposal on our upcoming trip to Rome a month later and I wish he had! We shopped for a ring together.
Our wedding and honeymoon were definitely romantic and he was a wonderful husband, sadly he suddenly passed away a few years later.

I'm really sorry to hear that! Sounds like he was one of the good ones x

We talked about getting married, agreed a date & booked it.
Didn’t get engaged or have a ring. Married ten years now…

Wheelyfast · 10/12/2024 23:07

Other side of the world nearly 20 ago four different rings over the years still not married ( not important to either of us) but will probably do it at some point...... Maybe

Ggmores · 10/12/2024 23:16

It was so romantic for us- well for from our point of view. We spoke about it so knew we were on the same page. We had booked a holiday previously and then on our walk home after a lovely meal we chatted about how lovely it would be to get married whilst we were away. The next day we picked some rings, had a celebratory drink after, then upgraded our flights due to the special occasion and had our marriage and honeymoon in one a few weeks later. It was perfect, we had the most amazing time.

Jambolass · 15/05/2025 09:44

Four proposals, 2 engagements, 1 marriage.
Down on one knee after he had brought me breakfast in bed (Christmas morning). We met in the September, first date October, I moved in with him in November, got engaged in December, planned the wedding I February, fell pregnant in March, got married in August, had DD in December. Bit of a whirlwind....

Shoxfordian · 15/05/2025 09:51

I booked a trip to Paris for his birthday and he asked me when we were there, on the hotel terrace looking at the sparkly Eiffel Tower - we chose a ring together when we came back

GameOfJones · 15/05/2025 09:58

DH and I had spoken about it so I knew it was on the cards but it still took me by surprise on the day. He proposed at home, just the two of us on a random Thursday evening. I walked into the living room and he was on one knee holding the ring box. He said he had bought the ring a few weeks before and had been trying to think of the right moment but was getting too nervous so just went for it and I'm glad he did because I wouldn't have wanted anything flashy or with an audience!

Been married 10 years, together 14 and would still choose him every time.

Sadcafe · 15/05/2025 10:07

Don’t recall it being particularly romantic, laid on her bed chatting about a work colleague who was planning a wedding and said we should do that, next time we were off, a trip to the nearest big town, on a bus, no car back then, to buy a ring, followed by telling the families

Dinoswearunderpants · 15/05/2025 10:17

I loved my proposal. Hubby was picking me up from the airport after a solo trip. He met me in arrivals dressed in a tuxedo, holding a sign saying Will you marry me?

He got down on one knee when I walked closer. He even got someone to record it. We made the local newspaper too which was cute.
