The Berger nomination will cause froth amongst some Labour supporters.

Eta: I should have said ex-Labour supporters who think Starmer is the anti-Christ.

BustingBaoBun · 21/12/2024 12:37

Well I never. Squeaky bum time for our BoJo.

Public will find out the reasons Boris Johnson officially provided for nominating Charlotte Owen and Ross Kempsell to the House of Lords, thanks to journalist Martin Rosenbaum. Due by 22nd Jan 2025.

The article explains it all.

Anyone catch "The Naked Week" on R4 ? Quite a more-important-than-it-was-highlighted-as bit about trying to contact Nigel Farage by ouija board, and then discovering that if you pony up £75 you can get a personal message from him.

Meanwhile I find myself increasing wondering if he has any utility for Musks grand plan. Obviously Farage will think that. But I can't help but feel for Musks plans he has too much baggage. I am sure there are younger less tainted people to propel to PM.

Attached shameless nicked from FibbyMcFibface.

Thing is, if BoJo employed a half decent team, the reasons given will be anodyne and bland.

The UK state apparatus is generally superior to a lot of Johnny-come-lately ones when it comes to smothering the truth with the pillow of mediocrity. If there were ever to be a revolution here, the fleeing despots wouldn't have to worry about destroying records.

Fartage and Jenrick were quick to tweet about the tragedy in Germany until it emerged the perpetrator appears to be anti muslim, pro adf and a EM, TR fan, not a peep since.

Surprised #MrBrexit had time, what with all the apologised he was doing after the Manchester attackers were charged. He really is a human dynamo.

Have they? I missed that

Ah well that saves him having to pay for a private lawsuit or whatever the plans were

Obviously he hasn't.

If I owned a newspaper, I'd make a living out of publishing incredibly reasonable stories about Farage (i.e. nothing actually libellous, just untrue) and let him fume as the optics of saying "I never said I stood in solidarity with homeless orphans" aren't that grand.

Seriously, a paper should have published a "Farage apologises" fiction and let him sue them. Bearing in mind to be libellous something needs to be not only untrue, but detrimental to a persons public standing.

DuncinToffee · 21/12/2024 17:43

I like that idea Grin

It is beyond distasteful to use the deaths of innocents to further a political agenda. Which should go without saying. But once your enemy has shown themselves, you need a strong stomach. Otherwise you cannot overcome them.

I wonder what #MrBrexits response will be when an annotated Reform manifesto is found in the suspects home ? It seems he was quite a fan of European far right wing politics.

Saucery · 21/12/2024 17:52

One for Private Eye, perhaps? St Albion’s will be my eternal favourite but if the mainstream press are going to keep on frotting Farage then pillorying that might be good. I unsubscribed last year so if they have done so then colour me behind the times. I know they had odd bits about him now and then.

But Nige skirts the right ring with aplomb. Always careful not to produce anything that might surface in any investigation. Fascists You Ordered From Wish is his aim, in case anything is in danger of being traced back to him. I mean, he’s never going to appear in any Prevent training I do, he’s waaaayyyyy too canny for that.

I still can't shake the feeling that it's not Farage, but who follows him we need to fear. Obviously he's got too much gold in his eyes to realise he's more of a John the Baptist figure for the real antichrist who is yet to reveal themselves.

So we can console ourselves that we know what happened to John the Baptist (and if it isn't too elitist, why it happened).

I assume they were equally fast to retract their tweet and the sentiment behind them?

Notonthestairs · 21/12/2024 18:13

"I still can't shake the feeling that it's not Farage, but who follows him we need to fear."

I think it's the money behind Farage that we should fear. I highly doubt those people/organisations have the similar aspirations to ordinary voters - see Nick Candy and his admiration of the lifestyle of Dubai & Abu Dhabi (I assume he meant English immigrant lifestyle there).

SerendipityJane · 21/12/2024 18:16

Of course money has no conscience, no loyalty and only seeks out utility. Something those that possess it rarely appreciate not realising they themselves are the pawns to Mammon.

Which means #MrBrexit is as disposable as he is useful.

For the love of money is the root of all evil.

There's an argument that people should think how "data" or an "fact" makes you feel before posting / commenting on it.

We want to believe things that confirm what we believe ourselves, and anything that seems to confirm beliefs will get retweeted to people who also believe the same thing.

How do we stop such a thing? I am sure that people who have jumped to conclusions without evidence won't care that they're retweeted such things.

The majority of the public still believe Jean Charles de Menezes was wearing a bulky jacket and a rucksack when his head was reduced to liquid.

cakeorwine · 21/12/2024 18:28

On another thread about the attack, people are jumping to conclusions based on no evidence - and are clearly using their own biases to reinforce their beliefs.

Arguing with people with facts doesn't help. Asking them to look at and explain their thinking might help

That's a good point.

One thing about SM and being able to repost is people press "repost" when they read something they want to believe. It's so easy they don't stop and think whether what they repost should be shared or not and the reasons for that.

That's why people still harp on about it being lack of free speech.

They don't connect rights with responsibilities.

This is basically from my reading about data, biases and changing people's minds.

Some people are saying that this was an attack on Christians because it was at a Christmas market. It is interesting to explore their thinking and reasoning for this opinion

DuncinToffee · 21/12/2024 19:06

In my experience, German Christmas markets are mostly about glühwein, food and weird wooden presents. I can't remember much of a religious vibe to it

It's very interesting getting people to reflect on the reasons for their beliefs.
