We have a very nice “young man” in the office and I have to get him a £15 secret Santa. He’s been here for 2 months, close to half my age and very easy on the eye. No idea what to get - please help me mumsnet!

The way you have described your colleague is really disrespectful OP- I don’t think you needed to include that to ask for secret Santa suggestions.
if he likes wine get him some wine - that way it won’t go to waste. You have said that you don’t really know him so any other gift you’re risking getting something he doesn’t like and it ending up in the charity shop come January, or even the bin for things they don’t accept. Just keep it simple - no one likes a cringey secret Santa gift especially if you’ve only worked at the company at two months and then you have the embarrassment of opening it and acting happy/ in on the joke in front of your new colleagues and boss.

There are some great David Shrigley mugs and coasters you can find online. They're quite funny. Not sure how PC they are though but I don't know if it matters.

Thanks there are some good ideas in there! He doesn’t drink any hot drinks I clocked that yesterday.

OP, my friend wants to know what exactly makes this young man a hottie?

I told my friend she shouldn't ask as some people might get upset, but she's really desperate to know. Of course, I think its an outrage that you described him as a hottie, but I'm being a good friend to my mate.

So? 👀

Damnloginpopup · 06/12/2024 08:58

A little black phone book.

You could stick your number in to start it off...😉

Don’t even get tempted to respond op . You know they’ll use your own tongue to whip you with.

Calliopespa · 06/12/2024 09:19

If he likes cold drinks what about a really nice elderflower cordial op?

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 06/12/2024 09:21

Lollollol2020 · 06/12/2024 08:06

Oh people like you will never be silenced until there’s nothing left to speak of.

People like me? What people would that be then?

Namechangeobviously2024 · 06/12/2024 09:22

If he likes wine, get him wine. £15 should get something reasonably tasty. Not all Secret Santa presents have to be unfunny jokes.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 06/12/2024 09:24

What's with all the pervy posts recently?!

You get him something you know he likes or is interested in, something completely generic or you get him a shit dancing tree or some other novelty crap. No different from anyone else you'd have picked.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 06/12/2024 09:25

Lollollol2020 · 06/12/2024 06:54

Yeah been there done all the training and you need to untwist your knickers @Killingoffmyflowersonebyone

Clearly the training didn’t stick if you’re commenting on people’s underwear online and making inappropriate comments about your colleagues…

AgnesX · 06/12/2024 09:27

WarmFrogPond · 05/12/2024 23:24

In which case why does it matter that this colleague is attractive?

I think she means that he's probably very cool and that she doesnt want to get something that his granny would get or that he would sneer at.

OP what's your budget... go for something jokey.

Oh for goodness sake. She’s not remotely interested in your knickers.

Edingril · 06/12/2024 09:31

Man or woman acting like this is creepy

Sexy Ben Stiller GIF

I’m unclear myself why I even used that term - it’s not something I would usually say! But in the interest of satisfying your friend’s curiosity.

But if he was less good looking, she wouldn’t care, because less attractive people can’t be cool? Right. 🤔

Its creepy,

Polyp0 · 06/12/2024 09:37

I assumed that the OP was telling us he was a hottie as that's what's baking him difficult to buy for - she's aware that her own feelings are colouring her view and doesn't want to accidentally but something that would give her away, so seeking the views of people who don't know him.

As middle aged women don't have a long history of raping younger men, and abusing their position of power over them, not all situations are exactly the same when reversed.

People saying the OP is the same as a male predator are virtue signalling in a really unpleasant manner that denies the facts of male sexual aggression by suggesting that young men are equally at risk from middle aged women, as young women are from middle aged men.

Bang on the money. Well bloody said!

Calliopespa · 06/12/2024 09:43

Also surely we haven’t reached the point that finding someone attractive is creepy?
She wasn’t suggesting any untoward actions of “ what I’d like to do to him 😛.”

On the contrary, she was perception checking gifts for appropriateness.

Hedgerow2 · 06/12/2024 09:45

@FlatWhiteExtraHot - I'd rather fit into the 'people like you' category and support equal standards for men and women.

Maybe we're just both 'middle-class and of a certain age' so unable to accept that a man or woman referring to a male or female colleague half their age as a hottie (🤮) is just banter.

AgnesX · 06/12/2024 09:45

Hardly creepy, it's always been the way.

She hasn't it articulated well perhaps but good looking tends to equate to popular and one of the in crowd.

You might not like it but in many workplaces that's the way it is.

Five pound stuff sometimes do genuine Oodies that are very minor seconds. There is one for 11.99 in navy that is a genuine Oodie I believe (having bought it). Good and thick. The label is cut out but not so you can see an ugly stub

I’d go for that. With postage, will be about £15

You said “people like you” in your response to me … I was just using it back to you to show you how ridiculous a phrase it is
