We have a very nice “young man” in the office and I have to get him a £15 secret Santa. He’s been here for 2 months, close to half my age and very easy on the eye. No idea what to get - please help me mumsnet!

my goodness this is so creepy

Creepy how?

WooleyMunky · 06/12/2024 00:03

Woolworth's gift voucher?

Calliopespa · 06/12/2024 00:04

NoEscapingMe · 06/12/2024 00:01

Oh bless you OP 🤣. You've done sod all wrong. Ignore the buttoned ups. I'd probably go for a voucher... Maybe a Boots voucher or something so he can get some practical stuff like shower gel xxx

Yes it was innocent enough op. We’re just the late night overtired crowd looking for something light hearted.

So what about a hottie for the Hottie now the nights are getting cold?

@Lollollol2020

Googled wine gadgets found a cool metal wine thermometer for £6 and I’d go with a bottle of 19 crimes red at £9 Asda making you £15 budget.

Wine Thermometer

I also think you score pretty low on the Wallace scale

@WooleyMunky ha ha maybe that’s what I receive for secret Santa … I’ll update if I do!

There are some great David Shrigley mugs and coasters you can find online. They're quite funny. Not sure how PC they are though but I don't know if it matters.

Welshcakes28 · 06/12/2024 00:06

Or Happy socks!

Calliopespa · 06/12/2024 00:07

A really good wine bottle opener? But on balance I’d try not to look as though you took too much notice of his interests.

Franjipanl8r · 06/12/2024 00:07

A leather whip.

RogueFemale · 06/12/2024 00:08

Still think the gift of hay for animals is a winner.

WingleWom · 06/12/2024 00:10

I wouldn't get him a gift voucher. I think they're pretty shit gifts generally (here let me turn my money into a token that represents money but can only be used in one place and expires).

But I especially don't think it's great for Secret Santa. Secret Santa is about having something to open and I don't think a gift card counts as something to open anymore than just giving him the cash would.

I'd go with the food suggestions or toiletries or something generic like that.

Men don't post threads like this. They are as shit at buying Christmas presents for attractive young colleagues as for anybody else.

OP get him a scarf and have done with it.

Or a new water bottle.

There's also straw, or cornfeed for poultry.

He might think it’s weird?

I mean I’d find it odd to be gifted a bag of poultry feed - especially if I didn’t get to keep it.

ViciousCurrentBun · 06/12/2024 00:13

A set of craft beers

A woollen scarf that matched the colour of their coat

15 lots of ramen so 60 packets in total, all the young males I know eat a shit ton of ramen.

I bought a colleague 48 bags of crisps once in Secret Santa a whole grocery box. They were delighted.

mrspresents · 06/12/2024 00:15

Boots have a Ted Baker gift set on sale for £10 at the moment

whenemmafallsinlove · 06/12/2024 00:15

Reasons for buying scarf if you are not familiar with the theory:

It always fits
It provides warmth or can be:

A seat
A blanket
A rope
A signal
A bandage or tourniquet
A draft excluder
A dog lead
A pillow

It's almost as useful as a towel

Edited

But okay from your elderly female colleague?

This is the best suggestion on here OO. Honestly this is a lovely ss gift. Ignore the arseholes.

Lavender14 · 06/12/2024 00:16

Sorry op but your post gave me the ick as well if I'm honest.

I wouldn't go for funny tbh since he's only very recently joined your team. I'd be inclined to go for something either more generic like a mug/ socks/ desk plant.

Or maybe a Christmas themed party game like the ring toss reindeer antlers that could be a bit of entertainment and still a bit silly?

Someone once got me a little drum kit for my desk in work which was really cool?

Moonlamp · 06/12/2024 00:18

A car related gift? What make does he drive?

There are some lovely flash manufacturer specific accessories on eBay.

crumblingschools · 06/12/2024 00:24

I am of the opinion if we didn’t want a man saying it we shouldn’t say it either. You could mention he was younger but didn’t need the hottie descriptor

With respect to present I wouldn’t go too jokey.

Twototwo15 · 06/12/2024 00:24

Just Google “desk toy”. There are a number of silly novelty things in that price range.
