We have a very nice “young man” in the office and I have to get him a £15 secret Santa. He’s been here for 2 months, close to half my age and very easy on the eye. No idea what to get - please help me mumsnet!

Just calm down and buy some generic Christmassy stuff. Bottle of drink, chocs, xmas socks, voucher, mini hamper, washbag with mini toiletries (no deodorant). M and S/Boots usually good for Xmas presents.

FFS, OP made a lighthearted comment about him, she is not a disgusting perv. Lighten up folks, you don’t have to get offended about everything

Equally though, neither does she havdvto get offended. If she mentions he’s a hottie we’re going to have fun with that.

If this was a man, everyone would be giving him what for and mumsnet would delete the thread. We don’t want double standards for ourselves, so we can’t accept it towards men either.

I didn’t pick up that other posters were being light hearted, it seemed like serious responses

@RogueFemale that’s not a bad shout!

Do it! There's the gift of carrots as well. (Just bought a tonne as a donation on behalf a friend who said she didn't want any presents).

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 05/12/2024 23:37

Think about what you'd get for an old, unattractive colleague you barely know. And buy that for this man. You're not going to wow him into fancying you with £15 worth of crap, so don't think too hard about it.

Well all I know is I was not serious about the g-string. ( NB this op!)

Sorry, that’s ridiculous. OP isn’t perving over her colleague so double standard doesn’t apply here

She literally is.

@Jawandmoan thank you for saying what I’m too tired to articulate.

Nope. I’d steer clear of anything potentially phallic. It will look like mind over matter.

Hedgerow2 · 05/12/2024 23:40

I wish women would stop and think before they make comments like the op. If it wouldn't be okay for a man to say then it's really not okay for a woman to say.

And then when they get pulled up on it they accuse people of being vipers or tell them to lighten up.

Amazes me that so many women can't see such blatant hypocrisy and double standards.

Blow the budget. Get 2 cinema tickets. One each 😘

Okay then, but there's still the bale of hay option

Roastitcheese · 05/12/2024 23:42

If he’s an animal lover, what @RogueFemale suggested.
If you’re not sure, you can’t go wrong in getting him a bagful of Xmas treats … a mix of chocolates and savoury as snacks.

OP was joking though whereas a man would be serious and pervy about it. That’s a massive difference to me.

How about a book? 😉
