Have you bought a bra this year?

Just that really.

I haven't. Wondered if that is the norm. I find the good ones too expensive and I don't really know my size any more, so just choose Medium.

How often do you buy a new everyday bra?

You are supposed to replace your bras every 3 months. They lose their elasticity very quickly. You should have a proper fitting once a year.

Who says they need to be replaced every 3 months? A bra manufacturer that wants you to buy more bras?

jay55 · 02/12/2024 23:00

Yes a couple. Need some more but losing weight and hoping to be down another back size soon.

Get measured at MnS and buy good bras ... particularly on the vou are on the voluptuous side .... dd plus x

A DD isn’t “voluptuous” unless you get your idea of bra sizes from page 3 circa 1985. A cup size means nothing without a band size to relate it to.

I always get a fitting and buy three new ones each January. I've lost loads of weight recently and had to go for it last week! Also an expensive big boob owner 😩

Jostuki · 02/12/2024 23:20

Back in the 80s Charnos uses to make a bra lette that was fantastic.

Although this one has a fastening it's a similar look at the front.

Inexpensive, washes well and true to size.

A DD isn't big and don't go to M&S!

They tried to fit me in a 40H Blush I could pull the band about 8 inches away from me

What brand? Never seen that sort of sizing in a bra before.

PattyDuckface · 03/12/2024 06:38

@PickAChew M&S, Kari Tra, Under Armour are brands I wear. It's very common for bras that don't have clasps and are sports bras to be in s, m, l.

But this whole thread was supposed to be about how often women replace them and if I should do too.
I start by saying I don't even know my size anymore so just buy M, but thanks to a bunch of posters who have poor reading comprehension they derailed the thread saying I was a man. Nice.

You could just look up my username if you had big concerns.

Mumsnet isn't going to survive long term if every thread is so horrible for the poster. No one will ever dare post. Shame as there's been so much good here over the years.

I have bought very few bras this year or last due to being fat and finding bras so uncomfortable that I wore crop top bras (come in S,ML). However, I have just bought this. Yes I know it’s plain and boring and a bit ugly but I’ve lost four stone and my mono boob is no more. I’m also 58 so care more about comfort than pretty.

This gave me support and comfort and it’s all cotton for that menopausal perspiration. It is a lovely feeling to have a pair of boobs that are comfortably held in place and that look like boobs instead of an enormous Les Dawson bosom.

M&S

If you have found a great comfortable one please mention what it is called

I really like the Rosie range at M&S. Really good fit, comfortable, but pretty. I've got big boob's, so a decent bra is essential for me.

I'm also a fan of the VS demis - they last for years!

Roastitcheese · 03/12/2024 07:01

I bought a twin pack of sports bras from M&S and they’re the only ones I have.
I alternate between the two. Black and white.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 03/12/2024 07:01

That's me told then, I'm a DD and always felt voluptuous 😂

I think it's a grey area. Most regular ranges end in a D or DD and bigger bust ranges start from DD. It is, however, big enough to require a decent, supportive bra.

MichaelandKirk · 03/12/2024 07:04

Looking around ocassionally some women could really do with a good measure. Drooping boobs or worse all over the place!

mitogoshigg · 03/12/2024 07:10

@PattyDuckface

There's no such size as medium in bras. There's a number followed by a letter.

I smell a rat!

SharpOpalNewt · 03/12/2024 07:12

I have found a type that fit and are comfortable from TU and just buy the same every time in different colours. If they ever stop making them I'm stuffed.

And H&M sports bras. Absolutely brilliant. With the really expensive ones I can't a) breathe or b) fasten them. Things which are not overrated, to me.

I purchased I think 5 new bras earlier in the year, chucked all my old ones out as a few were one sneeze or stretch away from snapping.

M&S is always my go to, they're a bit pricey but the comfort and quality is unmatched. I don't mind spending £30 on one bra if it's going to last me 5+ years and still be in great condition after years of wear.

mitogoshigg · 03/12/2024 07:13

Bralettes are not bras, they are more like sleep tops, I've been buying bras for 40 years and they always have a letter and number.

Ggmores · 03/12/2024 07:14

I buy bras in medium too! From John Lewis. They are a sort of crop top bra, so comfortable. I haven’t bought a wired bra in ages, not sure what size I am now. I bought mine in lockdown and they’re still going strong. I’ve never bought a bra every 3m, more like 3yrs!!

Looking around ocassionally some women could really do with a good measure. Drooping boobs or worse all over the place!

I'm 70 and my drooping boobs (always been low slung) seem unsaveable - bra is fine when I put it on but slowly the back slips up a bit and the boobs slide down - if I could be bothered to change my bra severa times a day it would help but that's too much to ask.
Without putting a lot of weight onto my shoulder straps, which I don't want, I don't think there is an easy solution.
However some of the suggestions here look very hopeful.

bobisbored · 03/12/2024 07:23

I bought 2 from bravissimo because I've put weight on. It cost me the best part of £100. I have big boobs so for me it's worth it for the comfort though.

OnTheBounce · 03/12/2024 07:23

Yes, weirdly, I have. Had to emergency-buy a change of clothes in JL and got a Fantasie Ana bra in the sale. It's so comfy (34F) that I immediately bought a couple more when I saw them discounted on another site, and have junked some uncomfortable old ones.

SharpOpalNewt · 03/12/2024 07:25

One thing that has changed my decolletage more than any bra is going to the gym regularly. My breasts are smaller, more manageable and more supported.

PattyDuckface · 03/12/2024 07:26

@mitogoshigg the reason I have medium bras is because I don't know my size anymore. I said it in the OP. So I just buy bralettes or sports bras.

I am buying very infrequently hence why I wanted to know if that was unusual and also what are good brands to try.

I am not an AGP trying to join a chat about underwear. If you "smell a rat" why didn't you search my username?

Actually you can get medium sizing in bras. Sports, Braletts & sets often just say S,M,L. Primark and other cheaper stores sizing is often like it for those items, thankfully Primark also do bras with normal back/cup size.
