Would you do a 6am flight home from holiday?

My partner has booked our holiday
He has chose a flight home from Tenerife at 6am back to Manchester.
Our transfer is picking us up at 2.30am
It's honestly making me miserable thinking about it.
He can't see anything wrong with this.
Please tell me I'm not alone in thinking this is a shocking time to get picked up.

Will you still have your room?

christmasdee · 02/12/2024 20:46

Yes we will
It just seems like a waste of a night
We will have to be up at 2am
So the night before will be a right off
No breakfast at hotel etc

I always try to get a flight as late in the day as possible to get an extra half day on holiday.

But if this is what is available it wouldn’t bother me that much.

Are you just adults? Do you still have your room for that night? If so and it keeps costs down then not really an issue, I would probably just not go to sleep or have an evening nap. If you have kids I wouldn't do it.

LisaJohnsonsFacebookMole · 02/12/2024 20:47

If there aren't many options or if it's cheaper and gives me more spending money or let's me use my preferred airport I do it. Admittedly an 8pm or the like would be more preferable generally.

WickedlyCharmed · 02/12/2024 20:47

No I’d hate this, that flight will have been dirt cheap, I bet.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 02/12/2024 20:47

No ideal of course BUT as long as I didn't have to check out the day before I couldn't get worked up about this. (and no kids to have to drag around at silly Am)

LufthName · 02/12/2024 20:48

It doesn't have to be a write off, just try to enjoy it and get an early night. It's not ideal but if it's already booked, you'll just have to go with it.

Ask for a packed breakfast to take with you?

DancefloorAcrobatics · 02/12/2024 20:49

We've done this many times for city breaks.

Honestly it doesn't bother us in factI ratherlike it, lesss stressful at the other end... horses for courses and all that.

christmasdee · 02/12/2024 20:49

@WickedlyCharmed yep Ryanair and it was £21.99 each
There's a jet 2 for £180 each for 6pm which I would of much prefered

That's £160 extra each to spend on your holiday.

mcmooberry · 02/12/2024 20:51

No I would never do this it would spoil my holiday. Would do it on the way but not on the way back whatever the cost.

Oh, I don't blame him for that and I hate early flights. That's too big a difference. Just don't go to bed.

User1836484645R · 02/12/2024 20:53

We normally get as late a flight as possible but for that saving I wouldn’t moan.

TheChosenTwo · 02/12/2024 20:54

It’s my ideal flight time to go on holiday but I’d not be keen to fly home at that time!

WickedlyCharmed · 02/12/2024 20:54

I’d rather have the full nights sleep, an extra 12 hours on holiday, and a leisurely breakfast and lunch.

Landing home at 10am having been up for at least 24 hours - no thanks! That’s not worth £160 to me.

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 02/12/2024 20:56

Do you have to get the pick up?

Have you got hold baggage? If it’s carry on I would spend some of your savings on a taxi and leave an hour later, if possible.

WalterdelaMare · 02/12/2024 20:56

No, I’d hate that. Our next holiday’s return flight is at 22.30. Whole day at resort, leave at 19:30.

AgnesX · 02/12/2024 20:57

Id happily do it. Glasgow flights are late evening and I hate hanging about. We've not always managed a room for another night or late check out. Those times it's been a drag.

We just load stuff up in the car and go out for the day.

Ggmores · 02/12/2024 21:01

No children? If so, just have a lie in, lazy day/last site sightseeing, then late dinner and a few drinks after. That would easily take until 1-2am, then time to get a cab to the airport. Have a little sleep on the flight, do a quick load of washing when you get home and then an afternoon nap. Unpack and then you’re all ready for a shower, get your work stuff together, takeaway and a relaxing film and then you’re all set for work the next day. I think it sounds ideal!

SnowyPetals · 02/12/2024 21:03

I hate early morning flights so would not like that, no.
