Would you do a 6am flight home from holiday?

My partner has booked our holiday
He has chose a flight home from Tenerife at 6am back to Manchester.
Our transfer is picking us up at 2.30am
It's honestly making me miserable thinking about it.
He can't see anything wrong with this.
Please tell me I'm not alone in thinking this is a shocking time to get picked up.

It depends on how much money that is to you. For £160, yes I would. I'd hate it but it's a lot of money to me.

For less than £100 no I wouldn't. Or with children.

TubeScreamer · 03/12/2024 06:41

No because I would feel discombobulated for days afterwards

liveforsummer · 03/12/2024 06:45

If it was just a week holiday I'd not be too impressed bit of 10 days or more then fine imo

We did this earlier in the year with a 3 month old, DD6 and DS14. It was fine. Set multiple alarms if you go to sleep, make sure you're totally packed so just need to pick up bags as you are walking out the door, and enjoy a strong coffee at the airport. All the kids slept on the plane and then thought it was an exciting treat (!) to get dropped at school on the way home (we landed on the back to school Monday morning).

It was early nights all round that night at home, but everyone was fine and had loved the holiday.

Would I do it again? Not if there was another option, but yes if I had to.

Enjoy your trip :)

We just load stuff up in the car and go out for the day.

We usually give the car back the day before, that might help it we kept it.

christmasdee · 03/12/2024 07:50

It's for 5 nights.
It's not our main holiday
Just a extra bonus trip away really but still makes me feel urgh thinking of it

Just enjoy your last night in the hotel, go to your room, shower and change and it will be time to leave. Can you afford the extra money for the dearer flights?

rookiemere · 03/12/2024 08:15

It's not ideal, but £160 per person extra is an entire flight for a city break somewhere else, so I would probably suck it up.

AdeptFox · 03/12/2024 08:18

I usually choose to sleep until I wake up naturally and book a flight home in the afternoon around 3 or 4 pm, then eat something when I get home and go back to sleep.

FrenchandSaunders · 03/12/2024 08:23

Wouldn’t bother me. I’d go out for a late dinner, few drinks and sleep on the plane.

TimeForWine1 · 03/12/2024 08:24

Absolutely NO WAY would I book flight times like that. One of the biggest considerations when I book a holiday is the flight times. Honestly, I would pay an admin fee and change the flights.

amoreoamicizia · 03/12/2024 08:38

Oh well, it's better than not going at all 🙂

Gillettethebest · 03/12/2024 08:41

I wouldn’t mind if I was with my partner. I travel solo often so it’s not something I’d do by myself but with my partner or friends - yes definitely. We can fall asleep on each other in the airport or whatever lol

LadyLolaRuben · 03/12/2024 19:47

Yes I've done it. Just didn't go to bed. Stayed up late, had a shower went to airport. Everyone sleeps on flight. Home at 9am got a few hours sleep then went to bed as normal that night. All good

YarkYark · 03/12/2024 19:59

Well, is that the only two flight options? I'd hate it but probably suck it up; the £320 price difference is just too big to go for the "better" flight. But also the pick up seems far too early for six o'clock? You can sleep on the plane as well.

Different airlines.

housemaus · 03/12/2024 21:14

If I've flown really long haul and it means a cheaper flight I've done it in the past - it was a £300 difference between that a night flight home from SE Asia for me years ago, so it felt worth it (and I'd have been there 3 weeks at that point).

But for a reasonably short haul European holiday no, I wouldn't.

winter8090 · 04/12/2024 05:31

I'd set my alarm for 2am and get to bed for 9. Wouldn't bother me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/12/2024 13:16

Where are you staying @christmasdee

I would get a taxi to airport so not such an early pick up

If a 6am flight then check in online. Assume hand luggage if 5 days so don't need to be at airport till 4 even 430

rookiemere · 04/12/2024 13:22

Here's a thought. It's worth keeping an eye on the flight prices. Often they reduce significantly closer to departure date. If the Jet2 flight was say £50 per person, then changing seems like a good option.

Ti7ch · 04/12/2024 14:06

We did this recently. We had to fly into Luton. I live in the SW. Couldn't be arsed with trains (Luton airport to Kings cross to paddington and then home) so got a hotel in London

I am never doing that again

KarmenPQZ · 24/07/2025 15:38

WickedlyCharmed · 02/12/2024 20:54

I’d rather have the full nights sleep, an extra 12 hours on holiday, and a leisurely breakfast and lunch.

Landing home at 10am having been up for at least 24 hours - no thanks! That’s not worth £160 to me.

Yup I agree that’s £160 well spent

Tia247 · 24/07/2025 15:43

I only do flights that early if it's at the start of the holiday and I can stay the night at the airport.

WonderingWanda · 24/07/2025 15:45

christmasdee · 02/12/2024 20:49

@WickedlyCharmed yep Ryanair and it was £21.99 each
There's a jet 2 for £180 each for 6pm which I would of much prefered

For that price I couldn't really complain, cheaper than a taxi home from a night out. Treat yourself to something nice from duty free with the money you've saved.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/07/2025 18:06

Nope - I only do flights between 10am and 6.30pm whether going or coming back and I choose destinations and flights accordingly and cough up
