Would you do a 6am flight home from holiday?

My partner has booked our holiday
He has chose a flight home from Tenerife at 6am back to Manchester.
Our transfer is picking us up at 2.30am
It's honestly making me miserable thinking about it.
He can't see anything wrong with this.
Please tell me I'm not alone in thinking this is a shocking time to get picked up.

No I’d hate that

Figgygal · 02/12/2024 21:28

Nope did those early and late flights as a kid on family holidays and its miserable as sin. Zero interest in doing them as an adult or subjecting my kids to them!!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/12/2024 21:29

I've done it many times, either for financial reasons or to avoid arriving home at midnight with work the next day.

@WickedlyCharmed yep Ryanair and it was £21.99 each
There's a jet 2 for £180 each for 6pm which I would of much prefered

I see why he did it

I do tenerife and I do good times as have done a midnight flight so landed 4am. Was a killer as try to sleep but noisy and lights etx

But it's a very good price

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/12/2024 21:34

I wouldn’t do that myself, no. You’ve lost an evening basically, and a flight at that time is just horrible anyway.

woffley · 02/12/2024 21:42

Absolutely not. I book my holiday around the most civilised flights. It's not all about saving money.

Delatron · 02/12/2024 21:42

It’s a bit of a false economy- you’ve paid for a night at a hotel which you won’t be using. All to get a cheap flight at a painful time.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/12/2024 21:45

It's no diff from what I do going there

Get the 6/7am flight. Land 11 ish

Up at 2am to go to airport

Sometimes I stay up all night and crash on plane and by pool and early first night

Or go to bed at 9. Try and get some sleep for 4hrs and get up

Least once home you can go to bed if you want

Delatron · 02/12/2024 21:47

When travelling there it’s different - you are excited to go on holiday. You’ve not paid for a hotel room and you’re not cutting your holiday short- you’re extending it. It’s the opposite coming home!

I don't mind a 6am flight on holiday
Your at the hotel by 11am and it's great when your away but the way back is different.
There's gonna be nothing open at the airport is there.

Unless your hotel is the at the other end of the island, there is no reason to get on the transfer at 2:30am. I’d be getting to the airport at 4:30 or 4:45. That’s an extra 2 hours of sleep.

BeMintBee · 02/12/2024 21:57

No sounds miserable! What a waste of accommodation and hardly a relaxing last night having to be packed and in bed early or sat up until 2am (more likely I can never sleep the night before and early wake up for flights)

We do early flights on the way out as DH likes to maximise the first day of the holiday but me and the kids are over it now and are collectively refusing anymore 2am wake ups for holiday. Always feel like I’ve been run over by a bus by the time we reach the hotel and never sleep on the plane.

W987654321 · 02/12/2024 22:00

This will be horrendous. You will get home exhausted, not feeling refreshed.
id pay to change it if I were you. Perhaps if he’s keen, he can get the 6am and you can get the afternoon flight?!

God me too!

Beezknees · 02/12/2024 22:05

I'd be fine with it but I'd rather do an early flight than a late one. I hate arriving home late. I've got one booked for next year from Greece that doesn't land until midnight, it was the only one available for the date we're going, I'd rather do a 6am one

Differentstarts · 02/12/2024 22:05

WalterdelaMare · 02/12/2024 20:56

No, I’d hate that. Our next holiday’s return flight is at 22.30. Whole day at resort, leave at 19:30.

See I'd hate this especially if your out the room, you spend the whole day clock watching and cant relax. I like to get up eat and go but I don't live anywhere near an airport so it's a long day of traveling

Differentstarts · 02/12/2024 22:06

It's a shitty flight but there isn't always much choice in the matter

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/12/2024 22:06

Sack the transfer that will spend an hour going round other hotels and book a taxi for 3.30am. Still not great, but better.

CrushingOnRubies · 02/12/2024 22:07

We did this ... Ryanair changed our flights they were nice and leisurely breakfast at hotel then go times and suddenly they were 3:30 taxi pick up times.

Ruined the last night of the holiday

Wouldn't do it by choice unless absolutely necessary

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 02/12/2024 22:11

6am flight home - horrendous. i'd be doing whateve i could to change that so i remain a human being when i travel and get home.
unless i was 18 and then i'd just do the cheapest deal.

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/12/2024 22:11

See I'd hate that, unless I could have a guaranteed late check out. We came home from holiday last week on a 9.30am flight and it was perfect. Hotel pick up 7.15am (enough time to dive into the breakfast room as it opened to take a couple of pastries and some fruit for the journey) home by 2pm, wash on by 3, cat collected from cattery at 4, suitcases emptied and put away same day.

LonelyInDville · 02/12/2024 22:12

This wouldn't bother me, I'd rather get home early as possible. That way I'd have the whole day to unwind.

SnoringNelly · 02/12/2024 22:18

If there’s no kids or caring responsibilities to rush home to, then it’s not the worst. I wouldn’t be overly happy but would endure it and next time take over the booking decisions. Plenty of time to rest and recover. A night of interrupted or little sleep will be easily recovered over a few days. And you’ve saved a good amount of money around Xmas time.

Bestfootforward11 · 02/12/2024 22:22

I understand what you mean. But I’d just stay up late, watch film etc. Can have coffee in the hotel room and plan ahead so got something to eat. Snooze on plane and when you get home. It’s a big price difference so I think worth it although not ideal

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 02/12/2024 22:24

I had an 23:00 hours flight once.

Never again! It was bloody awful.

Beautifulweeds · 02/12/2024 22:29

Have done these sorts of timings many times, not ideal, but not the end of the world. If it means we can get a cheaper deal in a good place then small sacrifice.
