What kind of apple is she? Daft name.

Lifeomars · 02/12/2024 13:57

very dated and a parade of nepo privilege, just the sort of thing the Mail laps up. Wonder how much coverage it gets in the rest of the media, I certainly wasn't aware this was still a "thing"

Anyone else think this thread was announcing the arrival of 'apple martini's'??

I was thinking "nah, they've been on cocktails for years now" 😆

😆 that's exactly why I opened the tread 🤣 I was thinking eh? What the hell they've always been a thing.

Ridelikethewindypops · 02/12/2024 13:59

I used to like Chris Martin , he looked like he didn't take himself too seriously (cameos in Extras and Modern family)
Buy he does seem to have disappeared up his own arse recently. Sporting a bit of a messiah complex too.

HowManyNsInBrenn · 02/12/2024 14:00

I think Apple Martin sounds like a pudding

ObtuseMoose · 02/12/2024 14:00

Blythe looks younger then Gwyneth!
Does she heck.

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 02/12/2024 14:02

I just read she was expelled possibly spring 2021 and it was all hushed up.

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 02/12/2024 14:03

Imagine having all the access to great schools, nannies, any help you need, and still your kid turns out like that.

Pipped me to the post. Sounds like a bloody flan.

Given the viral footage of her shoving another attendee out of the way then preening and posing in front of the camera, it also seems this particular apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.

Humiliating spectacle, like something straight out of Jilly Cooper.

Butchyrestingface · 02/12/2024 14:06

She was raised by two very, very rich shlebs, at least one of whom is also very, very silly. None of this should be a surprised although it is.

Sounds to me like a Daily Star headline or Aldi promo pun for an apple dessert you can bake really fast.

Ihavearedbag · 02/12/2024 14:09

Her hair looks very messy. Blair Waldorf would never

pumpkinpillow · 02/12/2024 14:09

MrsPeregrine · 02/12/2024 13:04

Agreed - the granny looks amazing! I wish I look like the gran and I’m in my 40’s!

She does look lovely, but she looks older than in her 40s. Are you saying you look older than her despite being maybe 30 years younger?

MiscellaneousSupportHuman · 02/12/2024 14:10

SouthernComfortable · 02/12/2024 13:42

Relax guys, it's not real. - It's in Paris France!
There hasn't been a real French Queen to be presented to for 250 years.
It don't count.
I second the lampshade remark from above.

Counter intuitatively, France hung on to debutante rituals far longer than countries with monarchies - perhaps because it was the only way remaining for the surviving members of aristocratic families to club together to promote endogamy amongst their offspring.

(At least they never curtsied to a cake though).

It's now the preserve of the extremely rich (rather than the traditionally posh) . But it's still a way for the offspring - and to some extent the parents - to network (and to flirt with the "right" kind)

MisoMouse · 02/12/2024 14:11

That video is so awful. If that were DD, I would be furious and mortified.

Sia8899 · 02/12/2024 14:12

It’s all very Bridgerton - young women coming of age to enter “society”. I’ve never been high class enough to be presented to the world and my contribution to my type of society is paying taxes so these rituals go over my head a bit.

I don’t like the photos though, it looks as though there were paparazzi with bright flashes right in her face all night

TomatoSandwiches · 02/12/2024 14:13

It's not very progressive of them is it, I feel a bit embarrassed for them all, not that they'd give two shits about it.

VisitationRights · 02/12/2024 14:13

Pretty wanky in this day and age but if she wanted to do it for the appearance fee and she is of age then not much her father could do about it.

and she is not particularly from nouveau riche background, Blythe Danner grew up very privileged on the east coast, and then as an actress n her own right. Not sure about Bruce Paltrow but he did very well as a producer/director.

and Apple’s have had their own great career successes (regardless of what you think of her acting, goop, or his music).

So, nepo baby she may be and, arguably, tacky but no way nouveau riche.

Iamnotalemming · 02/12/2024 14:15

Incakewetrust · 02/12/2024 12:58

Honestly, I find it all a bit creepy.

Very much this

Ceramiq · 02/12/2024 14:17

These events really scrape the bottom of the barrel for princes and counts to accompany the débutantes - one of the boys was in my DD's class at school and he's really very ordinary and another of the boys is my DD's student flatmate's ex-boyfriend and she says there is nothing to report...

SanctusInDistress · 02/12/2024 14:19

It’s an opportunity for aristrocrsts with a title but without money to marry into money, and a chance for new money but without a title to marry into a title.

i guess mummy gwyneth fancies having a Contessa for a daughter.

Jabbabong · 02/12/2024 14:20

She needs to do shit like that to have some fancy "socialite" tag. But basically she is unemployed with rich parents.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 02/12/2024 14:22

Very odd. Deb balls were usually for old school society people, not the nouveau riche. Dancing with a Count ffs as if the family have got some sort of title😆

Fink · 02/12/2024 14:22

EliCopter · 02/12/2024 13:12

The only people that do these balls anymore are nouveau riche

I disagree. I am neither, but I have had occasion to mix with a group of very definitely old money European aristos (minor royals from Belgium, Netherlands & France). They still do debs balls, and a whole series of events/clubs called 'rallyes' which more or less correspond to the old idea of a 'season'.

I think Apple Martin is a student rather than unemployed.
